With the alotted free time Gaius was spared between a chunk of classes, before continuing onto the next half of them, the hallow went about his usual ritual routine: gardening. His little secret garden had been one he'd tended to since he was a freshling, and only a few knew of it. It grew mostly flowers, but had a couple of veggies and fruits that were hardy enough to withstand the elements. Today was a weeding day, tugging and tearing out the unwelcomed guests that were peeking out of the soil around his precious plants.
A large amount of his familiars were with him helping, the skyfish nipping up any buggies that were laying around, or trying to nibble at the tender leaves. Most of his Pumpka's were taking to rooting themselves in the soft, cozy soil too, nestling beside the vegetation. Finishing up, Gaius wiped his brow, and looked around the small plot of land to make sure he didn't miss anything. That's when he noticed... one of his salamanders were missing... Slowly, he scanned everywhere his eyes could reach, turning around, and peering under the bushes that hid his garden. Uh oh.... scooping up the other salamanders, he pocketed them, and quickly started to head back towards the school. Had the little one fallen out during his trip here??
Fortunately, the little salamander had only crawled away, stalking after a rather juicy looking beetle that had made its way from the garden to the school. The dark black little amphibian was stalking it intently through the school hallway from, bright flame flickering with the interest clearly seen in those bright eyes.

Jonah was sitting outside reading a book on herbalism. He was currently on a page describing beetles that could ruin a herb harvest when a salamander crawled onto his textbook and proceeded to try to eat the picture. Jonah adjusted his glasses and looked curiously at the silly familiar and asked. "Who might you belong to??" The familiar looked well cared for so he didn't think they were a stray. With the way, the salamander was so interested in the beetle in the picture Jonah wondered if such a familiar could help him keep bugs out of his herb garden. Jonah had been interested in herb gardening for a long time because of the many herbs that could be used to help cure the sick and injured.

Where had that little one gotten off to? Gaius searched diligently, checking every nook and cranny along the way. His other familiars were doing the same, some even scenting the air fervently to try and pick up a trail. It wasn't uncommon for some of his critters to get distracted by something and wander off, but the hallow was persistent, patient, and pretty good at seeking them out from their hiding spot. Knowing his little salamanders, the one missing probably was seeking out a source of water or some fresh prey.
But when he felt a damp, dainty little hand press to his palm, looking down to one of the salamanders in his hold, he paused his hunt to observe them. The little cutie had hoisted itself upright for a better vantage point, staring in one direction intently. Hmm looks like they had a lead. Smiling lightly at his smart little pal, he followed the intrigued amphibians point, making his way to a bench that someone was already occupying.
It was then, upon looking at the book seated in the other juniors lap, that he spied his missing friend. Gaius grinned, lightly patting the top of his helpful salamanders head in praise, "looks like one of my little friends came to visit you." He mused to the stranger.

Jonah looked up from watching the familiar try to eat his textbook when he heard a voice, "I was wondering who this little guy belonged to, I take it they are yours??" Jonah gently picked up the familiar and offered him to the figure who had come over. "I think they might be hungry, they seemed very interested in the beetle in my book." He turned the book a little so the new person could see the page if they wanted to. Jonah wasn't one to jump up and hug someone or shove a book in someone's face. Jonah was a rather reserved geist.

Chuckling softly as he noticed his little salamanders antics towards the book, Gaius gave a subtle apologetic look to the other junior and a nod, "I hope he wasn't too much trouble for you. " carefully accepting his precious cargo back, he gave a few gentle runs to the salamanders gills.
The salamander gave a very pleased expression, eyes squinting, and tipping its little head from the affection given. From Jonahs prompting, Gaius looked back up to inspect the book, laughing lightly, "a bug that size is tempting for any salamander." He mused, "must've found a bug, followed it, and mistaken it to be the one in your book there."

Jonah's expression was guarded and neutral when he responded honestly "No he wasn't any trouble, a little interruption hurts nothing. Jonah shook his head and looked up at the person. "Silly familiar." Jonah said softly, he thought of introducing himself, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to open himself up to making a new friend. Then again Jonah didn't really have anyone he and Noah had been on their own since they were freshlings, and now Noah was off doing his own thing without Jonah. It was one of Jonah's biggest fears not being about to adjust to living his life without Noah in it, so he could look at Noah for the social cues he often missed.

The collected salamander curled up comfortably in Gaius hold, enjoying the attention he was being lathered with, the flame at the tip of his tail flickering and licking about happily. Smirking at the mutterance from the stranger, Gaius couldn't help smirking and softly exhaling mild snort from the remark, "Yeah, they can get pretty sidetracked. I guess they take after me in some ways. "he mused. The other familiars in his company all peered at the bug in the book too, some of the other salamanders even leaning further out of the pockets they were harbored in to try and reach for the page too.
Letting his leg turn a little to allow the salamanders closer to the book, some of the delicately touched the parchment, little blunt noses bobbing curiously.

Jonah cocked his eyebrow and asked "In what way being silly?? Or interrupting people for no apparent reason?? Unless you've been trying to eat a beetle in a textbook lately.." Jonah looked at the hybrid curiously. He was pretty sure this character wasn't the sort to eat beetles. He had heard that the nagas and nekos had come from the shifting sands, his mind wandered a little wondering if either of those races ate bugs. Some cultures eating bugs was perfectly normal. Just everyday life, Jonah would stick with salad and other foods like that. He wanted to be a doctor and rather liked the idea of eating healthy.

Chuckling again, Gauis shook his head, and tapped at one of his temples, "getting sidetracked. I get distracted pretty easily, like my buddies here, I guess you could say." though, he weighed the other options, and smirked, "I guess I'm those other things too." he did interrupt people a lot, unintentionally, most of the time. Stepping back to keep his curious critters at bay, he tucked the retrieved one back into his spaceous pockets to join the others, offering a smile to the stranger, "Well, I'm appreciative you looked after my little one. Sorry he came and interrupted your reading for a bit there."

Jonah smiled a little this guy was really nice and kinda funny. Jonah nodded and said "It was no problem, he didn't cause any harm and neither did you really. I'm Jonah by the way." Jonah finally said, he was uncomfortable. So he got up from the bench and closed his book. "It was nice meeting you and your little familiar." Jonah said kinda awkward and uncertain what he should do in the situation. The way his stone was had ensured that Jonah had been awakened with a friend. So he had never had to make a friend on his own before.
