Dramatic Marshmallow

He stood at the end of a road, hair waving gently behind him, frigid wind coursing through the streets of Destiny City. It had snowed recently; large drifts of white stood heaped in front of cars, along the sides of buildings, glittering on the branches of empty trees.

Somewhere, an owl hooted. Elsewhere, people were warm and safe at home, wrapped up in blankets, curled together on couches, hot cocoa in hand and a movie on the screen in front of them.

Almandine was not one of those people.

He blew out a breath of air that was visible in the freezing weather, raising his eyes to the sky. There was no one around; he was alone, with just his own thoughts (not helpful), a uniform that was almost warm (except he could use a jacket), and a sense of resignation that stemmed from a lack of anything to do.

This was, needless to say, not how he'd planned on spending his night.

Arachne, or rather Lysander, had been out earlier getting some pictures of his new winter coat now that there was actually snow to get it with and instead of returning home he'd decided to power up and see if there was any fun to be had.

At first the evening seemed like it was going to be rather boring. Nothing fun happening, but as he wandered he picked up a power signature. One that was finally a Negaverse one.

Brilliant!

Heading in that direction Arachne pinpointed the signature and almost had to laugh at what he found. If he'd asked for a more perfect companion to go along with the cold night and the snow he didn't think he could have gotten better. "You're a little late if you were trying to get on Rudolph's team but I've got to say. You've got the dramatic posing down wonderfully. Someone teach you that?"

The power signature was noted, but Almandine's lack of enthusiasm meant that he simply stood where he was and let it come to him, rather than going out to search for it. He saw no reason to expend energy when he didn't have to, after all; and besides, he could feel it moving closer, anyway.

Almandine turned slowly, brows contracting together at the other, a slight frown on his face as his gaze raked up and down the senshi's uniform.

"Dramatic posing for what?" he asked, "And there's no one named Rudolph on my team."

"Then they are missing a brilliant opportunity to give you a nickname." Arachne smirked as he paused, setting a hand on hi ship. "Or they just haven't told you that they call you that when you're not paying attention."

As he looked over the other man he was a bit surprised. He definitely felt like the negaverse but he almost looked like a senshi.

That was a new one.

"If you're not posing like that for a reason then you're just a natural." He grinned. "You could make a perfect recruitment poster like that. Better hope there's no photographers around."

The power signature wasn't Chaos, which meant that this senshi, in spite of his dark uniform, must be something other than Chaos. Order - that was what they were called, right? Almandine gave him an assessing sort of look, brows drawing together.

"I'm not sure who the 'they' is that you're referring to," he murmured, a frown tugging at his lips. "I would assume that they refer to me as Almandine, seeing as how that's my name."

His head tilted to the side, the bells jingling a little as Almandine moved. "A recruitment poster for...?"

Clearly he was not the sort that was used to any of this yet.

"They would be the people you associate with. I'd have to guess, given that you're .." He paused for a moment to motion at the senshi's form. "awakened and corrupted, I'm guessing, there's -someone- out there who did that. Probably a group of someone's. They."

Given the way Rudolph was talking though 'they' probably weren't friends. Either that or the other man was -completely- clueless. "I thought the negaverse was better at nicknames. Someone should do something about that."

The last question had him snickering again. "Recruitment poster for the Negaverse. This all goes right over your pretty head doesn't it?"

A gust of wind caused Almandine's hair to flutter to the side, a streak of long black, like a snake in the sea. He didn't bother trying to tame it; it was at least pulled back enough that nothing actually got into his eyes or anything.

"Yes, they did," he said, "Someone did. A General-King. Are you insinuating that I'm a good candidate for recruiting others, because I don't think that's true."

The frown deepened somewhat, more out of bemusement than anything else.

"I'm not sure what my 'pretty head' has to do with any of this."

"Please, if someone started taking pictures of you and dropping them on flyers ... "This could be you!" ... the Negaverse would have people lining up. Would give away their secrets a bit but it would work."

He grinned as he looked the corrupt senshi over again. He hadn't thought the Negaverse could actually do that but it did explain why Bennonite had spent time trying to convince him that he should join. Good thing he'd escaped from that so far.

At the other senshi's other comment he laughed. "It really does, wow. You can't tell me no one's ever hit on you before."

Almandine's blank gaze seemed to suggest that he had little to no idea of what this senshi was implying. "I doubt...that very much," he said with a frown of confusion. "And the Negaverse wouldn't be so dumb as to just put flyers out...at least, I don't think so," he added, shifting slightly, the bells jingling merrily.

The comment hit on you was also a foreign concept. Almandine's hazel eyes flickered over to the other.

"I...no?" he said, sounding bemused at his own answer. "What does that even mean?"

Arachne had managed to hold out so far but the look on the senshi's face was the last straw. He couldn't help laughing as the other young man asked him what begin 'hit on' meant. "Have you been living under a rock?" He pushed his bangs out of his face as he laughed. "No ... I can guarantee there's no way someone hasn't hit on you. It just went over your head."

Shaking his head he moved, sliding around the corrupt senshi and flicking one of the bells hanging from his waist. "It's basically when someone comments on your attractiveness an their desire to have some sort of relationship with you."

"I don't live in the countryside, so no," came Almandine's placid answer. "I live in the city, where there are fewer rocks."

Maybe he was taking things too literally. Wasn't that what all of his teachers had told him while he'd been forced to spend time in those infernal classrooms, with those hard plastic chairs and all of the useless subjects he'd been forced into attending? College had been a blessing, a relief, because he'd been able to choose what he'd wanted to learn instead of having it pushed at him.

He'd remained silent far too long, as usual. Almandine's gaze went to Arachne's hand by his leg and frowned slightly.

"I'm not good with relationships," he said, entirely seriously. "I don't care for them much, honestly, I see little point in expending time on them."

"See, that's what friends with benefits are for. No strings and no relationships to worry about. But you get all the fun." He had a feeling he was just asking for some other strange comment from the corrupted senshi but in a way this was refreshing.

He wasn't used to everything he said to be taken entirely literally

"Totally okay if you dont like them. Part of me say that's just cause you haven't found someone worth spending the time on it. But some people just," He shrugged slightly. "don't get them. Though that does make me wonder ... does that extend to friends and family? Or just romantic relationships?"

Almandine supposed this was true, but he also supposed that what he thought of relationships wasn't necessarily the same thing as what everyone else thought of relationships. And Arachne seemed far more knowledgeable than himself.

The frown was still on his face. Almandine blinked slowly at the other senshi.

"I don't get them. And I'm not sure what you mean, all of mine are basically the same way."

In other words - Almandine didn't really have friends, let alone anyone else.

"So no friends and no family? Or just not ones you like enough to count them?" He raised a brow slightly, actually curious. He knew there were people out there who didn't like their family at all (his ex was one of them) but they weren't the kidn of people you met every day.

Another question popped into his mind as he watched the frown on Almandine's face.

"What don't you like about them?"

"I have family," said Almandine, which was perfectly true. "Everyone has family, otherwise no one would exist at all. They live in the city, I don't see them all that often, I suppose. As for friends, I haven't really understood the definition of that all that well, and I fail to see why how it would benefit me."

He loved his parents, but their job raising him was over, after all. He was an adult now, Almandine blinking.

"I have a good job and a good life, otherwise."
