Basic Information
The weapon is essentially a self contained mini-gun designed to be airdropped in to territory, generally defensive bases, or dropped to provide front-line support in combat. At 30 tons the gun can be carried on a standard aircraft without being excessively heavy, and is even capable of being air dropped in to territory with a parachute. While the gun is designed to stay completely still, it can travel at 3 miles per hour and has a range of approximately 25 miles, in order to be able to move to a more ideal position in case it was positioned or air-dropped off target. The wheels and carriage also allows it to be towed by a light armored vehicle, such as a HUMVEE or Stryker. This same battery and motor system that powers the wheels of the vehicle is used to power the minigun, and has a self discharge rate of approximately 8% per month. The system can be completely unmanned and automatically fire upon enemy forces, a system which can be turned on and off given the circumstances. It can be remotely controlled or controlled by an operator, and has a cable to allow it to be controlled at a distance by an operator, but not remotely. With several panoramic cameras, it's able to identify and pursue targets completely on it's own. With three firing modes, it can be completely manned, unmanned, or a hybrid of manned and unmanned operation. In the hybrid mode, the targeting systems identify the target and aim the weapon, and the operator confirms firing or chooses to make additional corrections.
The primary reason why the weapon is simply not mounted on self propelled equipment such as a tank is primarily due to weight (although it is cheaper), as the guns and the ammunition are significantly heavier than what a standard vehicle could reasonably carry or fit. As base defense weapon or designed to be dropped in to combat on the front lines or to maintain territory, it's goal is to provide covering fire for forces and anti-vehicle and aircraft capabilities, generally serving as a mostly stationary weapon. Ideally, the cannons are dropped as temporary defensive modules while bases are being built or on the front lines of combat to capture territory until a more permanent defensive structure can be built. These units eventually can transform in to permanent additions to defensive fortifications, with an additional battery attached or generator to increase the longevity of the weapon, and additional defensive protection. In the 57mm and 40mm variants, it can even be used to engage light APC's and Tanks, due to the incredible power of the rounds and their explosive filling. The height of of the weapons above the battlefield also allows for the devices to successfully engage targets above infantry and tanks, as well as many local buildings.
