Asyriel hummed softly to herself as she paced along among the shadows of some trees. She wasn't very good at carrying a tune, though, so the song (if it could be called that) was just a bit... off. Not badly so, but enough so that anyone listening would probably soon grow tired of it, or else maybe just be creeped out and leave. The various bits of jewelry clinked gently against each other as the mare walked, adding another slightly out of tune element to the sound.

Her wings randomly flicked open and closed again, disturbing tree branches and making leaves fall onto the forest floor. Small animals skittered away from her, not liking the vibe she put off without even noticing. Eventually, she came to a small stream and stopped for a drink, leaning down over the water. Her hair flopped over a shoulder and trailed into the water as well and she had to snort when it got too close to her mouth. At the sound, yet more animals fled the area, making a good bit of noise for any who might be nearby to notice.

Asyriel was not alone.

Deep within the woods, two pale ears pricked, and flicked, focusing on a sound she couldn't entirely place. Someone out there was singing, and it certainly wasn't any of her siblings. Giving a stretch of her wings, the pale mare's curiosity brought her out of hiding. She was a familiar figure within the woods, as her family lived in a small grove not far from the water. It was a quiet place, where the family could live comfortably without risk of being treated poorly or with suspicion. They were a good-hearted family, but their appearance was often judged quickly.

Lyra was little exception. On top of being strangely, partially transparent, she was covered with spikes and horns. Perhaps her biggest offense was being an omnivore; while she cold eat plants and fruits, she found she also needed to eat meat to survive. Her large fangs were proof of that, and may creatures didn't spare a second thought to what sort of Lyra was -- instead preferring to assume the worst.

So it was, the little ghost-like mare picked her way cautiously closer to the sound of the song. Even when the song ended, the skittering of the woodland creatures was a trail which the young mare could follow. Stepping lightly over to the river, Lyra hardly made a sound. She had long since learned how to step lightly, though her petite stature helped in such a task. It didn't take her long to spot the winged mare drinking at the waters edge. She was obviously someone new -- a traveler perhaps? Whoever she was, she was terribly exotic -- ever had Lyra seen a soquili with such a bright coat! Nor with such a lovely and interesting array of jewelry. Lyra herself only had a small baubled necklace gifted to her from her parents.

Deciding that it was rude to stare, the mare bravely cleared her throat, and purposefully rustled up some foliage. "Hello there," she greeted softly, gently. She made sure to keep some room between herself and the stranger -- she was afraid that her own appearance might spook the other. "I heard singing in the woods. Was that, perchance, you?" Oh, the young mare was doing her best to be brave, and wanted so desperately for this stranger not to run away, or grow hostile. But if she had to run, she would do so; she knew these woods well, and knew her family was not that/i] far away.

Due to finishing up her drink, Asyriel had failed to notice the other approaching - so she did jump a bit at the sudden voice. But it was more because she wasn't expecting anyone else to be there than out of fear of the one speaking. She raised her head up a bit more to look over the newcomer, taking in her spines and ghostly appearance. Her own tail was sort of similar ... thought without so many spikes. And it seemed they both had feathered wings, though the other had two sets. How very, very interesting.

"Yes, that was me," she finally answered, after a pause that was just long enough to be unsettling to anyone normal. It was something she didn't even realize she was doing ... getting lost in her own thoughts for an inordinate amount of time. "Are these woods yours?" she asked then, having heard that some had territories or some such thing. She just tended to wander wherever the wind and her hooves took her.

Lyra waited with baited breath, trying hard to keep her tail still, and failing miserably. She couldn't help but to swish it nervously behind her, pausing now and then to let it wrap around her ankle, before releasing it and returning it to his hypnotic swing. The mare hadn't said anything, and was looking at her, and she couldn't help but feel a bit shy. She was not the most out going of her siblings, and this was the first time she'd met someone different. To say Lyra lived a sheltered life was a bit of an understatement, but she knew that her family only wanted to keep her safe. She was a very unusual looking creature, she knew, and not everybody took to a ghost-looking soquili very happily.

Thankfully, the red coated mare finally broke her silence. Relief washed over Lyra, and she found she could breathe easy once more. It seemed as if the stranger wasn't going to be hostile, or do nothing more than stare. In fact, it sounded as if the stranger was more than happy to talk, because she actually responded with a query her own! Lyra couldn't help but feel inordinately pleased; while her brother might tell her not to talk to strangers, Lyra was glad that she'd stumbled upon the singing mare. Maybe this one wouldn't be so bad or judgmental!

"They're not really my lands, no," she admitted with a small shrug of her wings. "My family tends to reside a bit farther to the north, where the woods are thickest. But they're not really anybody's lands, and all are welcome," she added hastily, not wanting the stranger to feel as if she'd trespassed. Lyra didn't say that many tried not to linger, as all of her family looked quite the fright. Lyra knew their hearts were good, and pure, and true, but sometimes strangers judged sooner than they should.

She hoped this one wouldn't. "These waters are clean and perfect for a drink." She encouraged, reaching down to take a small sip herself.

Asyriel nodded very slightly at the information she was given, but before she realized it her thoughts were skittering off again. So this mare had family... she had not seen any of her own family for some time now. She wondered how they were doing, if they also thought about her sometimes. Glancing down, her gaze was caught by the shine on the various jewels and amulets she wore. She didn't remember where they had come from, specifically. Did her family give them to her...?

All of this resulted in another too-long silence, until it finally registered that the other made some comment about the water. "Oh. Yes it's good, I had some before," she replied, leaning down to drink a bit more. It seemed... polite to do so?

Tilting her head then, she eyed the newcomer again. "We are similar in some ways. But. Why do you have more wings..? Can you fly with so many?"
