This was Aari's first time leaving the camp since she had arrived. She had come through enough that she shouldn't fear the risk! One little trip to a different town would be fine. Seek out a sparing match, practice a little, and go back. No one she knew before would think to look for her at a sparring ring, much less in one. If she was going to help others, she needed to learn more about using the blades she had been given, and everyone at the camp went too easy on the delicate-looking lady. She wanted a challenge to push herself.

Later, she was limping her way out of town with multiple bruises, cuts, and a swollen ankle. She had certainly found a place to practice with a challenge, but it wasn't very kind to amateurs like herself. Honestly, she was certain those brutes had far too much enjoyed showing her how little she knew about fighting! ..but hey, she had managed to cut the arm of one fighter. That had to count for something, right?

Klaas stretched his long arms above his head and bent backwards, touching his ankles right there on the road. His back popped multiple times and the people who passed by him gave the masked Oban weird looks. At this point in his life, Klaas didn't care. Sure, one day he'd get annoyed with it and snap at them again, but for the most part, he was okay.

Everything had been normal since he got back to Oba. He saw his family, spent time with the, but then his feet got itchy and he just had to leave again. So here he was, wandering without really any end goal in mind.

He'd yet to encounter a healer on the road. It was a pity. He was very interested in what they'd done for his face. He wanted to see if he was one as well.

It was a bit before he got to town, mind wandering the whole time. But when he saw a delicate girl limping, bleeding even, well. He moved over to her very quickly and stopped her with a gentle call of, "Hello?"

"My name is Klaas, ma'am. Can I be of assistance today?"

Aari was wondering if she should find a tavern to rest at for the night when someone approached. Her mixed instincts collided, and she looked around a little for suspicious faces before focusing on the man. It was such a strange mask, but she.. didn't feel threatened by the man.

Now she could reorient her mind to her naturally polite nature. ..as much as she could anyway. Standing straight was hard with a sore back, and it hurt to smile. "Klaas, you said? I.." she looked down at herself and sighed. She was a mess! "I apologize for my appearance. If you are certain.. I would appreciate your assistance." She held out her hand that wasn't cut open. "Aari. My name is Aari. I fear I was in a little over my head when I joined a practice spar. Perhaps.. you have any bandages on you?"

Bandages? He pulled his pack out and looked around before shaking his head. The Oban bit down on his bottom lip and then shook his head. "Unfortunately no. I... can offer you a piggy back ride to the nearest tavern? Maybe fetch you a healer?"

He took the hand she held out, shaking it delicately. From there he turned around and dropped into a squat position. He was a strong Oban so she shouldn't be too worried about anything. "I promise I'm not going to hurt you more or anything! I..." He puffed. "I don't like seeing people struggle alone. You, Aari, seem to be just that."

Aari sighed softly when the lack of first aid was revealed. Well, it was worth a try. She blinked slowly, taking a moment to register what was being offered. "A piggy back ride?" When the man squatted down, Aari's cheeks lit up. Oh! "Are.. are you certain?" she asked hesitantly. "I don't.. wish to embarrass you.." Still, she did step a little closer to the man. Being carried did sound better than walking any further...

"It's okay. No embarrassment! I'm a strong Oban. You look like you weigh next to nothing, so this should be easy. Uh. I ...didn't.. mean that as an insult." He flushed and fumbled a little as he waited. He readied his arms for her, looking behind himself.

"Once we're somewhere you can rest off your foot. I can uh... Look at it? I could.. I have a blanket here I wouldn't mind tearing strips off of. It's pretty old and tattered. I could at least wrap it. ..Then go fetch a proper healer?" Klaas pulled his dreads off his back so she wouldn't have to worry about them. That and he didn't want them pulled. If there was one thing that gave him headaches it was his hair being snatched or snagged or tugged in any way.

Aari waffled back and forth a little longer before closing the last bit of distance. "No offense taken," she murmured, managing a small smile. Her arms hooked Klaas' shoulders and she leaned against his back. Now she was grateful for her slight figure. "I will be appreciative of whatever help you are able to provide. I am further from home than is sensible for such training."

The Prentice gave a little noise as she climbed on. She weighed, not heavily, but more than he was used to. Of course Klaas wasn't going to say anything about that. He was a polite man who knew people were sensitive about things. (He was sensitive about things that were obvious too, after all.)

He slowly picked himself up, feeling his thigh muscles burn with the added weight. Once straightened up, however, Klaas was fine. It was like carrying home a lot of fresh veggies. He had this.

"I mean I can at least take you to the inn I plan on sleeping at.. From there I can take a break and then I can probably get you back." Maybe someone would be there that knew her and could help him. He was just grateful she actually accepted his help, honestly. Some women were very fierce and determined to not accept help from anyone, much less a young male. More power to them, but it was nice to meet someone who realized a little help was nothing to be ashamed about.

"Ready?"

After that, he started to walk slowly, trying not to jar her.

"Sooo, tell me about yourself."

Aari held tightly, biting her lip as Klass stood. Hopefully, she wasn't too much of a burden on the young man...

"I appreciate however far you can get me," she assured. "I do not wish for you to go out of your way." Allowing herself to relax a little, she let her head drop to rest on Klass' shoulder. She was tired... "Myself?" Her brow knit slightly, wondering what to say... "I.. don't believe there is much to say, really. I am in training right now, to use these knives better." She groaned along with a small chuckle. "I am clearly not accustomed to fighting yet..." That thought made her pause. "What of yourself? What prompted you to help someone carrying weapons and looking as though she had just had a bar fight?"

I remember reading this and working on a reply; must not have finished it. I'm sorry!!

The head on his shoulder made him blush a little, but Klaas kept walking.

"Uhm. Looking like you were just in a bar fight is a big turn on. No I'm kidding! Joking, just joking. I help people out. It's just..." He shrugged a little. "You didn't look like you'd make it far and I've got strong legs and a strong back... So I figured what could it hurt. Unless you're going to murder me. If you do, make it painless, yeah?" He was trying to joke his way out of any discomfort either might be feeling and keep her relaxed.

"Everyone loses fights. I don't know what yours was over, but yeah. I mean. I hope you get them next time!"

The nervous tease made Aari's face turn hot. A.. turn on? Oh, a joke. She gave a nervous chuckle, but her cheeks remained bright. Were there men out there like that? Murder?! She turned her head so that she was looking forward, her chin on his shoulder now. She had wanted to look at him, but she was on the mask side, and felt no will to move herself. Besides, she didn't want to shift and throw Klass off balance. While she could hear the tease, she addressed it honestly to reassure whatever was making him nervous, not realizing that her position on his shoulder was the cause of it... "I do not intend to murder anyone, today or ever," she said, now eyeing the mask from this up-close view. Why wear such a thing..? Oh, but asking would surely be rude. Besides, perhaps it was simply an accessory to him, like earrings or a hair clip? No one ever asked about those.

The encouragement at the end did make her smile appreciatively, and her next giggle was real. "It wasn't an actual fight; simply a spar for training. Thank you, though. I hope I do better next time, as well."

He hoped he hadn't scared her off with his teasing. That was the last thing Klaas wanted to do. But he was so awkward sometimes it could happen, he supposed. He shifted her minutely and then hummed.

"Well good, because murder is bad." He nodded sagely as if he just dropped a knowledge bomb on her. Around the edges of his mask and on his ear she might see the beginnings of a particularly nasty looking scar on his face. He hid behind the mask because of them. If asked, he wouldn't mind talking about it, but it wasn't something he normally just mentioned out of the blue.

"Oh? Just a spar? Well, that's... a rough spar then, isn't it?" He snorted and shook his head, looking back at her. "What's the other person look like then?"

A small smile crept up, amused by the apparent pride Klass held in his lessons. Teasing or not, it was cute. She turned her head just slightly to get a better look at the mask, and noticed a hint of a scar. Was that why there was a mask?

Aari sighed heavily, hoping that she wasn't giving the boy too much fodder for laughing later. "I doubt it was very rough for them. I just am not very good yet." She was just far too delicate yet for such roughness, but she knew she could overcome that! The other person... She chuckled with self-conscious nerves and shook her head. "Aside for a couple scratches, I fear he looked the same when I left as he did when I arrived." The man had actually been quite dreamy, which had done nothing for Aari's concentration during the spar. "I told him to take the spar seriously, so he did. I can't fault him for my shortcomings." She hugged a little tighter to Klass, sticking out her lower lip in a pout. "You probably think me to be quite silly for attempting such a thing.. don't you."

"Well, everyone starts somewhere. I've never gotten into a fight, myself, so." He couldn't help but grin to himself as he continued to walk. If he was getting out of breath, honestly Klaas didn't show it. His arm muscles bunched and relaxed with every step, keeping her up as far as he could in a way that'd be comfortable for them both.

So she went toe to toe against a boy? Very impressive. She didn't look like much of a fighter, but he'd seen even meek women punch a man square in the nose.

"No, no. Sparing is a way to learn. It's meant for you to make mistakes. Win and lose. A training tool so you improve. Why would I find you silly? You want to be taken seriously and so you end up looking like a scrappy young woman! Which, you know, is very nice sometimes."

She let her head tip again to rest against Klass' shoulder. Klass sure was understanding and knowledgeable about fighting. Scrappy? Her? Aari couldn't help smiling. "There are quite a few in my camp who doubt I can succeed," she replied, "and they enjoy making such views quite known to all. It is more common that I see doubt in the eyes of others." A little smirk rose and she gave Klass' neck a very subtle hug. "I appreciate your encouragement. ..I do look forward to the day I prove those naysayers wrong." Such a bold statement... but she knew it was what she wanted.
