Owara scooped her giggling toddler into her arms and swung him around once before hugging him close. "Alright, Lial, time for bed. You can get up bright and early tomorrow and come with mummy to the kitchens if you promise to behave," she promised with a smile. Lial pouted the epic pout of toddlers and whined.
"But I don't wanna go to bed yet!" Lial flailed a little as Owara set him down in his bed and covered him up. "Wanna stay up with you and Daddy. Pleeaaassseeee!" He fidgeted until his covers were down at the bottom of the bed again. Owara laughed softly and tucked the blankets over her wiggly toddler once more.
"Will you go to sleep if Daddy comes in?" Owara asked, poking his cheek. Lial grinned and nodded. "Okay kiddo, I'll go get him." She laughed again and moved to the doorway. "L'mul~ Your son is asking for you before he'll go to sleep."

L'mul looked up from the page he'd been perusing. He stood, pushing his chair back into the desk. "What's this then?" He asked, when he got to Lial's room. "Are you giving your momma a hard time, hm?" He crossed his arms playfully, guitar safely tucked under them.
"I'll play you one song," he said, holding up a finger. "If you're not asleep by then, I guess I'll have to play you another one." His stern expression faded, and he sat on the end of the boy's bed. He set his guitar down and tucked a bedfur around Lial. "Can you still move?" He asked, pretending to tuck the bedfur tighter.

Lial sat up and bounced in eager happiness. He loved when his dad played for him and thought his daddy was the best Harper dragonrider ever! "Nuh uh! I'm a good boy, daddy!" he promised. As L'mul tucked the fur around him, he lay back down and wiggled to demonstrate his ability to move. "I can still wiggle a little!" he giggled.
Owara leaned against the doorway to the little boy's room and watched the pair with amused affection.

"Oh, good. Your momma is spreading horrid rumors about you, you know. She said you wouldn't go to sleep!" He shook his head. "I'm glad she's wrong," he said. He was grinning. He loved spending time with his son; Lial was everything he'd ever hoped to have in a child and more.
"Well, I had to leave you enough room to breathe!" He teased. He picked up his guitar and began to strum.

Lial gasped and looked at his mother with a shocked face. "Mama, how could you!" Except the toddler couldn't hold the serious face and burst into high pitched giggles.
He nodded at his father's explanation that he needed room to breathe and settled down once his fingers began to move the strings.

L'mul grinned at his son's expression. Well, that was well worth it! "Shh, now," he said, continuing to strum. It was a soft tune, melodic; maybe a lullaby? He softly began to hum along. His eyes were on Lial. Would this work? Little ones needed so much more sleep than adults.
He didn't sing, just played the gentle, repetitive tune. He looked back towards Owara for a brief moment. "Sing!" He seemed to mouth.

Lial listened to his father play eagerly, still wide awake so far. He loved listening to the music L'mul could make, and to the songs he could sing. Owara watched them happily, then smiled shyly when her mate suggested she sing instead of him. She was no Harper by any means, and her voice couldn't hold a candle to L'mul's, but he seemed to like when she sang so she indulged him every once in a while.
Coming forward, she perched on the edge of Lial's bed and began to sing a lullaby she remembered from when she was her son's age. It was an old song, but one that had stayed with her for her whole life. As she sang, she brushed Lial's hair from his face and smiled at the way he tried valiantly to keep his eyes open.

L'mul smiled at his boy's eager face. He loved how much Lial enjoyed music; maybe when he was older, he could get him apprenticed. Shards, he could teach the boy himself if it came down to it.
When Owara came in, he changed his tune to match hers, playing notes by ear. Lial was getting sleepy, it seemed! "We can play more tomorrow," he said, softly. "I love you."
