There was a store.

Wendell had been sitting outside of said store for approximately ten and a half minutes now, perfectly and politely positioned on a low wall built a few feet away, on the other side of the sidewalk. Paws in front, tail sweeping gently from side to side back and forth behind him, bandanna around his neck neatly arranged so as to present the model image of a well-behaved cat.

He was also staring, very intently, at the store.

It was a toy store, a small one, specializing only in a certain kind of toys - handmade ones, in fact. The window display sported a large, cheerfully clicking wooden train that was zooming happily up and down the tracks that looped and swirled and twisted across the window.

Wendell's head was moving in time with the movement of the train, bobbing slightly. He seemed very focused.

He sensed the presence before actually laying eyes on the other Guardian. It was a tiny blip in the back of his head, a small headache that tugged on him, begging him to widen the distance to make it go away. An Order aura, but a small, tolerable one. If it hadn't been for that nagging tug as he padded his way to the top of the small incline, he might have assumed that the cat he noticed staring into the toy store was another trivial, feral kitten entranced by simple mechanics.

It almost seemed a shame to break the trance the cat was in, his tiny little head bobbing with the motion as he watched a toy train make its circles around the track. The larger cat moved to hop on the ledge, sitting beside the darker Guardian as he too began to watch the train. The repetitive route kept green eyes moving, the tiny little wheelsets moving up and down on the train's side as it chugged along.

Glancing over at the other cat, he silently noted that the other feline was only watching through one eye, the other shrouded by a fabric eyepatch of sorts. Interesting.

Lazily, his tail flicked to the side, moving far enough to gently brush against the other's.

"I bet if you're a good boy, your senshi will get one for you."

If Wendell noticed the small blip of a power signature near to his, he didn't make any reaction to it, still watching the train with a sort of intense concentration that seemed probably excessive for a toy. He couldn't quite take his eye off it yet, however, slowly revolving his head to follow the path of it.

Something brushed his tail - another tail. Wendell didn't look away, but he said, in answer to the question,

"I don't have a senshi. Not yet, at least. But this is pretty amazing, can't you see?"

The train gave a whistle. Wendell's tail flicked happily. "See, look?"

The large cat adjusted himself, now turning in the direction of the other Guardian, his interest in toy trains replaced with the one-eyed kitty cat in front of him.

I can see... but how can you?"

His head tilted, studying the golden fabric with the slightly swaying tassels that moved every time the cat's head (or body, for that matter) twitched. The one good eye kept itself trained on the toy, every whistle and click seeming to evoke an excited shimmy from the smaller being.

"What happened to your eye? Curiosity finally get the better of you?"

Wendell finally managed to tear his gaze away from the train to look at the creature beside him. It was a cat like himself, except much bigger, much fluffier, and much oranger than his own sleek, dark brown self - and yet still with a star stamped in the middle of his forehead.

Wendell beamed.

"Hullo! What's your name? And yes, I can see - and I've no idea, really," he said cheerfully. "Maybe I was in a shipwreck or something."

He inched closer, Wendell looming close to peer curiously at the other cat.

"What's your name? I'm Wendell."

A single golden eye was pressing forward in his direction, forcing the large cat backwards instinctively. The red bandanna around his head wasn't appearing to inhibit his sight, though as the yellow tassels began to dangle, Bob did his best to squash the urge to reach one paw up and bat at the swaying fabric knots.

"I'm....Bob." Should he be really handing out his name to the quizzical kid? Then again, he seemed more curious than aggressive. Maybe he was foreign - foreign kids didn't know not to invade personal space, right? "We're a bit landlocked for shipwrecks, my friend. Out of towner, I take it?"

The golden tassel closest to him began to sway gently with the breeze, Bob's paw practically twitching with the urge to smack at it.

Wendell just beamed all the more brighter at his newest friend, invading the other cat's space without the slightest hint that this was probably not something he should be doing to a new acquaintance. But he'd met someone new, and that someone new was a cat like himself, and therefore, he was ready to make friends.

"I'm Wendell," he said cheerily, and reached out a paw, patting at Bob's fluffy, furry chest. "Nice to meet you, Bob! And yes, I suppose so, Maybe I am from out of town. Maybe I'm a pirate."

The thought momentarily subdued him, Wendell lapsing into a momentary contemplation of himself and the universe and the meaning of life.

A second later, he had popped back to being entirely himself, looming back in Bob's direction.

"Are you a senshi cat then? Do you have a senshi?"

"A senshi's cat? Me?"

One paw drew up to rest on his chest, a universal symbol for excuse you? Laughter followed after the motion, the ginger cat clearly tickled by the other Guardian's question. "No - I'm not attached. That gig is for cats who aspire to work and fight and make an effort into this ongoing war...thing."

He shuddered for emphasis, clearly not approving of anything that had to do with the horrible w-word. Instead, he returned his focus to the shiny object that still enamored him, the golden tassels stealing his attention once more.

"So, Wendy. If I were to become a pirate like you, would I get one of those headwraps too?"

Wendell just continued to beam at Bob even after seeing the universal symbol for excuse you. He waited for the answer, tail flicking side to side as though a pendulum was swinging back and forth noiselessly behind him. A beat passed in which it seemed he hadn't even heard what the other cat had said.

At least until he loomed abruptly forward, face an inch from Bob's, and said, Very Seriously, "Bob. You must be strong in this war."

Then he leaned back, beamed brightly at the other, then said, "Oh, well, I suppose! I don't see why not! They are definitely the greatest thing in the entire world, definitely. Just like you!"

He would have possibly hugged Bob, but, well. That was for later.

His lip curled up instinctively as the cat neared him again and despite Wendell quickly pulling back shortly afterwards, Bob inched backwards himself to add space between the two of them. Clearly this cat was on something - some cracked out version of catnip, perhaps? Maybe crack itself? Whatever it was, it wasn't doing the feline any favors with his spastic personality.

Green eyes narrowed as he studied the happy-go-lucky expression on the thin cat's face. He seemed genuinely happy, though the mention of being strong for the war... what exactly was going on in his mind, right now? He hadn't seemed to mind the dark star on Bob's forehead, but the ginger cat was beginning to wonder if the other cat even knew that they were technically on opposing sides of each other.

Finally, he had to ask.

"Do you even know what you're fighting for, kid?"

Wendell was still beaming at Bob as though he was the best thing in the entire world - and considering Wendell, he probably thought that. He also thought that they were already friends - which they were - and that they were about to have some grand discussion - which they were.

Coins jingled a little as Wendell swayed from side to side, still looking pleased as punch.

"Yes," he said firmly. "I am very literally fighting for good. The good of all catkind!"

Wendell's head bobbed up and down seriously.

"It's very important."

"The good of all catkind?"

This kid was a crack-up. Both figuratively and literally, it seemed. Bob couldn't help but feel bewildered amusement with his energy and enthusiasm, but it was clear that the little fella had some screws loose up in his Mauvian noggin'. A thought crept its way into the ginger puss's head and a wry grin spread across his face. Maybe he could have a little bit of fun with the squirt, after all.

"That does sound very important, kid. Very important."

Rising up from his seat, one paw reached out and dramatically placed itself over his chest. He made sure his eyes were wide and innocent - or at least as innocent as Bob could manage them to look. "Could I possibly help the good of all catkind too?"

Wendell was quite pleased at having the other cat agree with him, because catkind was important. Granted, he'd barely met anyone other than Celsus and his friends, but that was beside the point. Everyone was supposed to be friends, and it was Wendell's job to make sure that was achieved.

Bob received a Very Serious look. Wendell put a paw on Bob's cat shoulder.

"Yes," he said somberly. "Yes, you can. You can do anything you set your heart to."

Bob allowed the Very Serious Moment several seconds of silence. It was important to show respect to the Catkind Cause, or at least give the appearance of being respectful to such a nonsense thing. The ginger Mau was really out for numero uno, but it was more fun to play the part of a concerned citizen than the nonchalant, indifferent cat he truly was.

"Then, I think..." He paused as he considered his phrasing, doing his best to continue to look as concerned as he needed to appear to be, "I think I'm going to need an eyepatch too, so that I can see the world through your eye. I don't think I can do it on my own, Wendell."

He mimicked the other cat, raising one paw to rest on the opposite shoulder of the other. To any humans passing by, it was an unusual sight to see, to say the least.

The moment of silence was much appreciated. Wendell knew how important this was, how very meaningful the new bonds of friendship were, even if the other cat was a giant orange hairball of a sort, but differences were okay, too. He just wanted to impress upon Bob that this was a Moment.

Wendell gave a slow nod.

"Well then," he said somberly. "We'll just have to find you an eyepatch, won't we?"

He patted Bob's fur consolingly with a paw, then leapt off of their little meeting place and hopped nimbly to the ground.

"Let's go find you one!"
