Last thing Joy remembered was lots of water getting into her lungs. And then Jordan was there. But then they weren't in the Haunted House anymore and wow she couldn't breathe very well. How could water cause her lungs to burn?
The people in the infirmary insisted she stay in bed until she recovered from her visit to the Haunted House. And no matter how much she insisted "I'm fiiiiiiine, you're all being exaaaaag!" she was forced to stay put. So what better time than to have something to do that wasn't, y'know, the dreaded paperwork than now?
She sent a quick message to Melvin to meet her at the infirmary to discuss runicing prices."

Melvin was never too far from the Infirmary on most days so nice he either did duty work there or was in the Life Labs located close by. The text dinged as he waited for a pot of coffee to finish and, deciding he could do with a break, he filled a thermos and walked over.
A knock on the door and the Life hunter entered, dressed in a cream brown sweater and black slacks with black shoes. His hair was a puffy wave of blonde with blue eyes over half-rimmed red safety glasses.
"Joy isn't it? I'm Melvin Wood." He said, moving over to her. Needless to say that she wasn't in tip top shape. "How are you doing?"

Joy had never really been hospitalized. Sure she'd been to the hospital a fair number of times but it was an out-patient type of deal. She wasn't used to being forced into bed rest and the boredom was driving her mad. So a visit, even if it was a business-related one, was definitely welcomed.
"Yo-" she initially greeted before going into a bout of severe coughing. She at least had the presence of mind to turn her head away from Melvin as she tried to hack up her lungs. When she could breathe without trying to expel her internal organs, she brought out her phone to type in: "Cud b better. Supr bored tho."

Melvin moved to grab a glass and pour some water from a pitcher before bringing it over and offering it to her.
"It can be most of the time. That's why so many people go on Twitter. Do you have any friends coming over to bring you something to read or do?" He asked, not sure if she was just one of many hunters who contacted him to runic something they just bought or someone new enough to want all their essentials done.
Looking about, he found a chair and dragged it over to her bedside, sitting down.

Joy gratefully took the glass, slowly drinking small mouthfulls while she typed with her other hand: Nah. Dnt gt ny1 comin 2 c me. She didn't bother hiding the wry smile on her face though she wasn't elaborating on why this was the case. Twittr sed i shud read buks bt m nt a big readr. S der lyk an ol-in-1 playr thing? Id wanna get 1 n runic dat.

Melvin leaned in and squinted at the screen, his eyes flicking over the message over and over as he tried to decode the lingo.
"You want to ....runic a what?"

Joy's view of the marvels of technology seemed to fall more on the fantastic as she cleared the screen to spell out what it was she was looking for: "All in one player. Like sumthing dat can play movies + music + dose audio book thingies. Wudn't mind listening to a bodice ripper's fun bits for a change."

"Ahhh. Okay. I will have to ask you, do you even have a TV too because you will need that runiced as well. Same with any speakers." He said, looking back up at her.
"Also, we tend to be in the Infirmary a lot. Maybe think of getting a tablet or something to hold you over later down the road. Just a thought." He informed her.

Joy was nodding in understanding up until the point Melvin mentioned tablet. Her brows scrunched together in confusion, "Tab-let?" she croaked and risked another spoken sentence "They gave some of those to drink already." As far as the trainee was concerned, tablets were categorized with the capsules and pills.

"Um....no. I mean handheld computers. Like..." He pulled out his phone. "This but larger." He made a brief square size with his hand. "Touch screen where you can watch movies and check twitter and listen to music without having to carry a laptop and portal enough to take notes on."
He wasn't sure why she didn't know what a tablet was. "Have.....you been in a pod for a while?"

"That sounds hi-tech," Joy managed to say without going into another coughing fit. Though when she did feel the back of her throat begin to itch, she turned away and tried to stop breathing to force the feeling down. Of course she held her pointer finger up in what she knew was the sign of "wait one moment."
The feeling passed and not wanting to risk it again, Joy started typing, spelling most of the words out this time. "Maybe? Not sur. My country isnt xactly advancd + my parnts ddnt giv me my 1st Nokia phone til I grad frm college. Bn awake 1 mayb 2 yrs? Spnt mst of last yr in sum off-island base 2 gard portal." Hopefully that explained her rather sad lack of technology knowledge and experience.

"They are relatively cheap now. About $100 dollars will get you a basic one that works rather well. If you are unsure, I can let you look at mine to give you an idea if it's something you prefer. Otherwise, unless you have everything else runiced that will connect to the multi-device player you want, I can at least tell you what that might cost."
He looked about and then back to her. "Is there something you might want to read? I can see if there are some books or magazines out in any of the lobbies."

Joy pursed her lips in thought, had it not been for her receiving pay and with the additional bonus from recent missions, the idea of anything worth a hundred dollars being considered cheap was beyond her. But for all the s**t they had to go through, at least the pay's good and Joy's tastes never reached lavish levels so she had quite a tidy-ish sum.
"Tablet sounds good," she said with a grin. "Price for that?"
Melvin's question about her wanting to read something was met with an awkward face. Her phone came out again, "Nt rly big on reading. Wud u knw f my diet's restricted? Cud use sum choco."

"I don't see anything that says you can't eat anything specific. Chocolate should be fine. Actually..." He glanced to the door, ready to actually get her something from the vending machine before he stopped.
He was broke.
Flat a** broke. Broke that even Mark had made fun of him.
"Ah...right." He moved slowly back to his seat.
"Sorry. Kinda broke."

The moon trainee visibly brightened that she wasn't under any restricted diet. At least there was that! All she really needed was to wait out her stupid bed rest and she'll be back to her old self. However, when Melvin sat back down Joy almost expected him to give her bad news about something in her charts.
So when he admitted that he was broke, Joy sort of stared at him for a moment. "Becoz of Taxes?" she typed into her phone, her brown eyes wide in horror.
