Truthfully, Alya had not been tending to Senshi business. It wasn't that he didn't want to, only that he still wasn't exactly certain what it was. His introduction had been quick--and he was far more worried about the girl who had been hurt than he had been about learning what it was to be a Senshi.
Still, as the days crept on, he couldn't help but wonder more about this role he'd had--and wonder how the girl was doing.
He had powered up out of curiosity, and spent a little time trying to get used to it.
Not knowing what to do, he'd mostly just played with his phone--and then found her number. His fingers were moving before he was really thinking about it; he texted her, asking for her to meet up in the park. He let her know where he was, in case she was interested. If she wasn't, no big deal.
It was cool tonight, but not cold. He sort of liked the briskness; it made him feel alive--even if he relished the summer warmth. He was pacing around the fountain, admiring the stars, playing with his phone. He'd have made an easy target for an enemy, but he didn't seem worried about that.
Sometimes apathy was a blessing.

Elvira was out patrolling when she got the text, and when she saw who it was from, her eyes lit up. Oh good! It was the senshi she had nearly died to save...he wanted to talk to her, and that sounded like a lot of fun, or at least a good chance to really thank him for his help.
She made her way to the park, clutching a box of Girl Scout cookies in her hand, because it was that time of the year again, and ran up to him. “Hi! Alya! It’s me, Elvira! How are you doing? Are you settling in okay?”
The super senshi was so much different than the last time the two had seen each other. For one, she was conscious, and not so traumatized by having her soul ripped from her chest, though she supposed that she was acting as anyone would act in that situation.
“I’ve been thinking about you a lot! I’m glad you texted!”

Alya flashed a smile as she approached. "I'm good," he said. "Still trying to get used to that name. It doesn't quite feel like mine."
He seemed happier to see her in a better mood--and being alive was a great perk. "I hope you've been doing okay," he added a second later. It sounded a bit like a question, but less so than when he asked, "What were you thinking about me for?"
Certainly he was used to people thinking about him, but usually they were a little older. He wasn't sure he could enjoy being at the core of someone's thoughts if she wasn't at least of legal age.
...Except, he wasn't Virell, here. He was Alya. And while this was a decent looking outfit, it still wasn't as flashy as what he was used to. And he really needed to stop thinking like that; he was here to check on her and learn a little bit more about whatever it was that he was supposed to be doing.

Elvira blinked. “What do you mean what was I thinking about you for? You almost died, and I almost died and that was a super rough way to become a senshi! You must have been so confused and scared...but I’m really glad it was Julienne who helped you, she’s the one who awakened me, and I think she’s absolutely great!” She drew in a breath and continued. “Did she answer all of your questions...if you have any more I’m sure I can try to answer some too, I mean, I know I’m not the best, but I really try!”
The senshi held out her box of cookies. “I sell these, do you want to buy some maybe? I’m giving away free samples of this box...I’m half joking, I brought them to share with you, but I do sell them, so if you want some, just let me know!”
Everyone liked cookies, she knew that as a very true fact.

Alya blinked, apparently processing Elvira's words, and then flashed a quick smile. "Oh yes, of course. It was very confusing. Julienne and I talked after you went home, but I suppose it was just sort of one of those nights. Like watching a movie, it just doesn't seem real? A part of me wanted to see you again just to make sure you were okay--and I wasn't just imagining all of this."
He was stroking his chin the whole time, apparently considering the cookies, and then sighed over dramatically. "...But even I'm not cruel enough to tease myself with cookies. Do you know how many calories these have?" he asked, taking the box. He sighed wistfully, debated, and helped himself to one.
"Just one, thank you," he said, handing the box back. He took a bite of the cookie, eyes fluttering shut. He nodded a moment later. "...Yes, just one box. Maybe two. Yes, two. I would buy two."

Elvira grinned, making a mental note of his order and nodding excitedly. “You aren’t imagining any of this...and I am okay...maybe a little hesitant to go out on my own right now...but I’m sure that’ll wear off…
She shrugged and took another cookie, going quiet for a moment as she chewed it. “So...what questions do you have that I can answer? Did Julienne tell you that we have our own places to go? Like, I have Elvira, but it’s a place...I get my name from my place. It’s super cold up there and I love it. I put up some Christmas decorations the last time I went up!” The senshi gave a sheepish grin and shrugged. “I mean, I know it’s not close to Christmas anymore, but I think I’m going to turn that greenhouse into my own little Christmas paradise. I think I can get away with it, don’t you?”
Elvira paused for a moment, looking Alya’s fuku up and down and shrugging. “What...what are you the senshi of, anyway? I mean, I bet you can tell what I’m the senshi of easy, but you...I honestly have no idea.”

"She mentioned it, but I just don't think I'm ready to get off of Earth," he shrugged. "Seems like it would be lonely up there, so Christmas decorations sound cute. I don't really celebrate Christmas though. But I like the lights."
He shrugged, trying to imagine another Earth. He wasn't creative enough to come up with anything for a world based off of his sphere. "It's Apathy, though," he said, answering her question. "...Which I suppose is a little boring. So my planet is probably boring, too."
The truth was, he didn't want to be alone, though. Sometimes it was easy enough to feel alone on Earth--surrounded by people. But to be in space, in a world you knew was going to be dead and barren? Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that sort of loneliness?

He didn’t celebrate Christmas? That was just sad. She was going to say something, going to ask why he didn’t celebrate Christmas, but finally she just blinked. “What’s apathy? I don’t think I’ve ever heard that word before.” Elvira blinked in confusion for another moment then snorted. “I’m sure your planet isn’t boring at all! Maybe one day we can go visit it together! We’ll be friends in this war, you and me...because, we have to be. I mean, we both saved one another’s lives so...we kind of owe it to one another to be friends, right?”
Because clearly that was how friendship worked, and clearly she wasn’t the most over the top optimist that ever existed...because that would just be silly.
“Julienne told you that you shouldn’t patrol alone right? I mean at least not at first...and you of all people can see just how scary and awful people can be...I think we both learned that lesson pretty well, to be honest.”

Alya found himself nodding; he knew how people could be--just, admittedly, that had never happened to him before. Nothing quite like that, at least. He didn't care to repeat it, so patrolling with someone else sounded like a fine plan--except, he only knew one person, and he was talking to her now.
"Apathy...is indifference. It's when you don't care."
He had wondered if it was a metaphor for his life, but he didn't think he cared so little. He had good days, but mostly he was just looking for the fire in his life--something to put him back on the right track. To make him feel alive.
"So, it would sort of be fitting if my world was boring, right? ...But maybe it wouldn't be if we decorated it. I would want electricity, though. I like the Christmas lights that sparkle? I'd want those."

Elvira thought about that for a minute. “You know, or your would could have just been filled with people who didn’t care about other things...like your world could have been super awesome, but the people just didn’t care about the world around them? Or like, other worlds? Maybe it was just...something like that? Who knows! Maybe you have like, rainbow water and chocolate grass on your world...that would be so cool!”
Now she just wanted to go up there and see what his planet could possibly be like...now she had it in her head that it was the coolest place in the entire universe.
And even if it wasn’t, Alya was super nice so she knew she would love it regardless of what it looked like.
“I don’t have electricity on my world...but I bought myself battery powered Christmas lights! That’s how I solved that issue!”

Alya reached up to scratch at his chin thoughtfully; a world with rainbow water and chocolate grass sounded messy. "Your solution sound very smart. It just sounds like so much work," he confessed a moment later reaching up to fiddle with his braid. "I've never done...construction type things. I mean, my apartment is decorated, but that's different. A homeworld that needs to be rebuilt...Can I just hire a construction crew or...or something? Or, I mean--what's the point of rebuilding a world that you can't visit very often, and that's so far away from home?"
He didn't seem condescending, just a bit confused, like he still couldn't wrap his mind around it.
"I really wouldn't want to live somewhere knowing there was no one else around. Space is scary, too. I hate the idea of being lost out there, in the middle of nowhere." He shivered. "...I'd have to have someone come with me. Would you come with me?" he piped up. "I hate to always ask things of you, but you're the only person I know. Where, also, am I supposed to meet more people? Do they just show up, out of the blue, or...is there like...an app or something, for quick hook ups? --I mean, for partners," he cleared his throat quickly, realizing he could just be digging himself a hole.
"I mean, quick...patrol....partners..."

“The point is to see how much you can get done, of course. The point is to try and make it better...when you’re there, you sometimes get these...flashes of what it once was, at least I did before, and honestly, I want it to get like that again! Who says you have to just let it stay lonely and dead, who knows! Maybe one day we’ll be able to go and live up there again, wouldn’t that be cool?”
Elivra sighed happily, thinking of how much she still really wanted to just have a big party up on her asteroid...it would be so much fun, and she could invite Ida and Ida would be so happy to see all that she had accomplished...and she would be proud of her and everything would be great.
Not that anything was bad, but Ida’s approval would make things even better.
“Of course I’ll go visit your world with you, Alya! I’d love that!” Elvira practically shouted the words in her excitement, her purple eyes sparkling with delight.
“I can introduce you to some of my friends if you want, I don’t know if there’s any apps for patrol partners, but that would be super cool if there was, wouldn’t it?” This guy was so smart! He was so new but he was thinking of so many cool things!

Slowly, Alya breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Elvira was not old enough to understand or ask what the hell he was going off about; he was used to hanging out with an older crowd but Elvira was a welcome breath of fresh air.
"I think I'd like to meet some friends, but--I'm very busy," he confessed. "Sometimes it's hard to sneak out. I have, you know--coworkers, a manager, school. It's hard to juggle. And to meet people that aren't totally petty. I'm in a really competitive business, people are total jerks. Sometimes I forget that nice people still exist."
He looked at her and smiled. "You're nice, though. And optimistic, that's really cute. Don't ever change, Elvira."

The senshi beamed. “Thank you! You’re super nice too you know! I don’t want you to ever change either! And even if you’re busy, there will always be time for friends, you know you shouldn’t surround yourself with petty people, they’ll never love you the way a real friend will! Plus, you should kind of be careful with you make friends with because some people aren’t nice at all, and I think that stinks.”
Elvira hesitated for only a second, then hugged him tightly. “We’ll be friends forever though. I’m telling you that right now, so okay? So just count on it. We’ll go on adventures and I’ll tell all of my friends about you so you can meet new people, and we’ll visit your planet and we’ll put up decorations so it’s like a second home for you, okay?”

Though he seemed a bit surprised, another smile appeared and he gave into her embrace. "Oh, you are so sweet. Most of my friends give me the impression that they're waiting to cut my hair while my back is turned to them, but you--you are just the sweetest little thing. I'll go on as many adventures as you want. And I'll take ten boxes of cookies. I shouldn't, but I will."
He didn't feel threatened by her, or like he needed to impress her. Truthfully, it was extremely relaxing. She was the type of friend he could let see him with a face mask and oversized pajamas and not have to worry about finding pictures posted online.
Probably; it was still pretty silly to think he'd let anyone see him like that. But maybe, one day.
He'd come out wanting answers about Senshi things--but this was so, so much better. He just wanted to sit down and play with her hair and listen to her talk and put all those nice thoughts into his head.
