There had been a slew of posters all over the island, all with a phone number, most promising some variety of cute fun or something similar. It was for the most part a mystery where they came from unless you caught the person putting them up.
Mikael was putting more up that morning, carefully pasting a poster with a friendly looking picture of a wolf like dog on it on one of the walls in the buildings.

There was also a trainee sighing, removing a poster very carefully one corner at a time from the wall suspiciously next to the Death division office suspiciously close to where Mikael was putting up another one.

"Hey!" Mikael called out. "Stop that!" The boy was short, brightly coloured and loud. He hurried over to the other trainee, arms full of posters and bristled at him.
"You should be helping me put them up!" He paused. "...unless you are taking it down to answer it!"

It took the stranger a second for them to realize Mik was talking to him. He pointed at himself as if in question. "Me?" A pause, and then he continued to work, finally prying the last corner off. "I'm working, Mark said so I can get money to- wait what am I answering?"

"YEAH." Mik said indignantly, tossing his pale blonde hair dramatically. "You'd be answering my ad for cute times and maybe more." he looked over the other trainee. "You are pretty handsome, I mean if you are." And he beamed at him, before seeming to turn in an instant back to pouting.
"If you aren't you've just ruined my property and you need to help me put these up as repayment cause that's mean. You shouldn't be mean."

"That's not-" he began, mind backpedaling furiously to try to make sense of this, "No, I'm not - how."
He looked at the poster, which was beaming back at him, and then immediately folded it shut, and then folded it into fourths, and then very even eighths before offering the wad of paper. "You can have it back?"

Mik shook his head. "No! I don't want it back, you've defaced it now." he refused to take back the folded poster. "Now you need to help me put up all these other ones. You can be my handsome assistant. You like, you owe me."

It seemed like for a second they were just going to flat out say no and walk away from the mess, and there was a very long awkward silence as he debated with himself the potential consequences of this. "Fine," he finally said, sighing at the same time, "give me half of them and I'll- I'll find somewhere for them to go."
He was thinking recycle bin.

Mikael shook his head. "NO. You can't take them away, you can just come with me and help. You need supervising, all vandals do. You won't get away with stealing my posters, I drew all of these myself, it took a really long time."
He stood up to his full not at all impressive height.
"Either you do this or you go on a really cute date with me, that's the only two options."

"I'm a guy," he said flatly, his most recent up to date memory from the early 1990's in a very sheltered sort of neighbourhood. "If I come help you out, how long is this going to take? I don't like leaving the building after dark."
And there was that weird dark thing again.

"Uh guys can date guys?" Mikael said, talking slowly as if the other guy was maybe a bit stupid. "The only rule is that its cute."
He nodded. "I don't like the dark." he said. "We can stay indoors if we need to I guess. I don't think I've put any on the floor with all the colourful cartoons." Mikael was actually completely terrified of the dark, he just tried to avoid talking about it at all.

That was fine, he thought to himself, to each their own. He wasn't here to judge -
- Except for those horrific posters. They really were terrible and he wasn't too sure how to break it to this kid. "No, it's more that it'll be dark everywhere, and- nevermind - give me your colouring book pages." He looked grim. "What are you using to tape them up?"

Mik gave Carl a horrified look, for a moment fixated on the idea that it would be dark everywhere, even if it was nothing but a flippant comment, the thought made his blood chill. "Everywhere?" he said. "I don't want it to be dark inside." And for a moment the colour drained out of his face, before he tried to think of anything else, think about cute good positive things, not the dark.
"Uh I've tried..er..I've been using lots of things." He picked up a bag that contained glue sticks, tape, wall tacks and much more concerning no small amount of nails, wallpaper paste and other more construction oriented tools.
"You can try whatever. And er.. Do you maybe have a torch or something?"

"What does a torch have to do with anything?" Now he was imagining a literal archaic torch complete with fire. "I mean it's like like any of that will help, just don't back at it.."
He picked out the tape and sighed, dropping it back into the collection. "Do you have anything that doesn't damage the walls?" Why did he even care so much about- "Nevermind, I think I saw some masking tape somewhere. This way."
It was only like five feet into the Death division office, and there was noone else in sight as he started to search around Mark's workarea first.

"Because of the dark." Mikael said, he had no idea the word torch and flashlight had different meanings here and different implications.
The guy's concern for the walls was weird, Mik didn't care much about walls, they were just there and they looked better with his posters on them, but he decided that he'd tolerate his new assistant's advice and see what they could find.
Heading into the office he looked around. "This place is quite nice." he said. "Is this where they do accounts and stuff?"
