She'd finally found him. He hadn't taken her seriously the first time she had disturbed him and she had been left with a rather dented ego. She might have been a young lioness but she was still old enough to be worthy of some respect. So her mother might have been a bit weak, definitely wimpy when it came to fighting properly, and her father might have acknowledged her to let her in to the pride... But she had been educated as to how the pride worked and it was a matter of principle that she demonstrated her capabilities.

Oh sure, she didn't have to, but that wasn't the point.

She didn't want to be recognised on blood alone, she wanted to be recognised for her own strength. She wouldn't be associated with her mother's uncertain steps, she wanted to be associated with her father's strength.

She'd heard murmurs of who he was and what he was capable of and that was something she wanted to take some pride in. She had it in her blood, it was only a matter of demonstrating that... And for her to do that she was going to head straight for the individual who had denied her challenge and instructed her to come back when she was 'stronger'.

She'd give him 'stronger'!

He hadn't been able to get the brat off his tail, in fact it had taken considerable effort to get away from the damn girl. Nevertheless he had managed to do so and had finally settled in to a slumber that he had hoped would leave him refreshed. He was tired after all, the lion had only just returned home from the first stint of what would be several Vikings and the next would be much, much longer. All he had wanted to do was rest and recuperate until they were ready to depart again.

...What he had not accounted for, was the fact that he was about to become the subject of interest for an adolescent. For some reason she had decided that as he was a Captain, it was fitting she challenge him to prove her worth. After he'd made several queries he had discovered she was already the daughter of a damned captain and didn't even need to prove her worth. Given she was also much too young, he had been blunt in his rejection... Suffice it to say that he would be more than happy for her to challenge him when she was older but not when he could cripple her.

She hadn't taken the rejection well.

It had resulted in the now slumbering male having to put up with several interruptions to a variety of meetings and even during meals. It was enough to put anyone in a foul mood but he had thought she had gotten the message eventually. Suffice it to say that he was wrong, and he was about to find this out the hard way...

Bonus points for her being so determined though.

There he was, just like they said he'd be. He was curled up comfortably in what should arguably have been a private spot. He was outside some sort of den, one she would later come to acknowledge as his sister's, but for now she assumed it was his. Strange how he would sleep outside when one possessed such shelter, but on this occasion she didn't care; she was here for a reason and she wasn't going to back away now. It was his fault that he was asleep and not aware of his surroundings, thus he would pay the price.

Consequently the adolescent lioness found herself walking towards him as quietly as she possibly could. All things considered he seemed like he was a deep sleeper as he didn't appear to be stirring at all. How weak, one really did need to be a light sleeper to remain safe. How had this lion become a Captain when he was so unaware of his surroundings! Surely her father was so much more competent?

She resisted the urge to sniff as she drew ever closer, then she took a moment or two to survey her target...

He was a large lion, and rumour had it that he was god-born, but this didn't mean that he was any better than the average Reaver. He was proving that right now, fortunately for her she also knew that if she came in at the right angle she could cause considerable damage as well.

It was then that she pounced, aiming squarely for the weakest of the spots. Imagine what she could boast about when she wiped out a captain!

What she had done was unforgivable; even as his eyes shot open and he released a roar of fury. The lion was rarely angered in such a way and it would cause quite the stir when it was heard... But the adolescent had chosen to tear into his legs in a manner that would leave him with an even longer time to heal. He didn't know what the little b***h was trying to achieve, but if she had assumed it would keep him down and cripple him, she was very wrong.

So she could scout and attack the exposed in their most secure lodgings. So she had the capacity to backstab and betray, that wasn't something worthy of any form of respect in his books. She might achieve the applause of some in the pride, but she didn't receive it from him. Instead, the lioness was greeted with a paw that swept around her neck and flung her directly into the wall of the den. It was then that he pressed down hard, ignoring the blood that seeped from reopened wound.

"You have a lot of nerve," he snarled. "Congratulations on successfully jumping a target," he continued. "In the eyes of those without honour and skill you have won, is that what you wanted?" he demanded and tightened his grasp.

Suffice it to say that he outranked her considerably... What was to stop him from killing her here and now? He might provoke the ire of another Captain but it was his own foolish child's actions that had caused the response.

His paws were tightening around her neck to the point she wasn't certain he was going to let her go, and yet as he spoke she noted that he had an incredible amount of self control. While some reavers would have been more than happy to slit her throat, he was belittling her. He was right, she might have won in the eyes of some of the pride... In fact by some standards she had, but in the eyes of this Captain she was completely unworthy of respect.

...And whether she cared to admit it or not, his word could ultimately prevent her from gaining her place in a band when she was older. She winced as his claws began to dig, it wouldn't be long before he began to draw blood, and yet she found that it never came.

"What are you waiting for?" she demanded. Clearly he was a Captain and could exact his own judgement, yet he wasn't interested in dishing out the beating that some might have believed she deserved.

She was thrown to the side like a rag doll and Tethys lay down once more, Dione would have heard the commotion and come to inspect him...or alternatively Nanabe would have sought him out when she realised that something had occurred. Until then he simply had to put up with the throbbing in his thigh, a thigh that had been recovering nicely.

"From you?" he asked and gave a scathing chuckle. "Absolutely nothing," he replied and nodded his head dismissively. "You do your father no credit, now get the hell out of my sight," he instructed.

"If you try this s**t again, whether it be with me or my band, I will end you," he warned and narrowed his eyes. He liked a child with spark in them, but when they fought dirty and held such arrogance, he saw no use for them either. At present every last bit of her potential was completely wasted and unless she learned some honour, it would continue to be.

"Learn some manners and you might yet be worth the time of more than just your own sire. Now get out." he snapped.

...It was an order that was obeyed for now. She had her 'victory', even if there would be few who respected her depending on the circle she entered, but it would be enough for her shallow circle to appreciate no doubt.
