Personality: The settlement of Emeka is inhabited most predominantly by a vast swarm of powerful, confident, likely egotistical bug women. Most of which have little patience for hybrid children. It became apparent very early on in Kzakka’s life that if this was where his family was going to call home, he’d either need to rise to that level, or accept being looked down on, insulted, and ridiculed for his parentage. For a time, the latter was fine. While in his youngest years he’s more passively and morbidly curious as to why his ‘sisters’ treat him so differently than they do one another, by the time he’s old enough to understand his differences, Kaz has already had enough of being the tribe’s freak whipping boy.
Instead, he’s adopted the notion that he is ‘special’ and ‘unique,’ and that his kins’ rudeness likely stems from some form of jealousy that, unlike him, they don’t have the best features of two tribes. Being born of Aisha, he understands the thought that the Alkidike want to keep their race ‘pure’ for supremacy purposes and has, of course, heard the rumor that blooming hybrid children has taken a toll on the goddess. However, he is also of the mind that goddesses do not make mistakes, and Aisha allowed him to come into the world as he is, so he deserves as much respect as any of his pureblood sisters. He is not ashamed of who he is, doesn’t recede from their jibes, and doesn’t go out of his way to hide anything about himself. Kaz wants them to see and take note of him, and they better learn right quick that he’s not going away anytime soon.
To that effect, he can be very forceful with his presence, very in-your-face concerning his own standpoint on his person, and has a wildly low tolerance for the more conservative and pigheaded of his race. If he hears or sees something he doesn't like, Kaz can be a bit of a bully both verbally and physically, especially in retaliation, though it isn’t always with the express intent of being mean, so much that he just doesn’t care what comes from his mouth and doesn’t bother to check his actions. When he thinks he’s right, he’s right. Even when he isn’t. And you better get with the program. Per the effect of being raised among a tribe of warriors, he’s not afraid to fight about nearly anything and shows a great deal of passion for everything he does.
If he's going to go at something, he's going at it with everything he's got, whether that's defending himself from the negativity of his tribe, protecting his family, obtaining something he wants or anything in between.
This, unfortunately, can be very tiresome and draining. Despite the close-knit, sister-oriented structure of the Alkidike, Kaz does require a bit of alone time. Like with most of his other moods, he lets it be known shamelessly, first with a pure lack of interest and disapproving glowers, then with snappish words and slightly more forceful gestures. No one is protected against this, whether he considers them a friend or not. Treat yo’ self.
But aside from that, he does tend to function more animatedly around others. While he will remember and hate those that are outright rude or mean to him, he's not especially offended by curiosity and will happily talk about himself all day long, in addition to being equally curious about others. As much as he likes succeeding himself, he also enjoys it when the people he cares about do so and doesn't have much of a jealousy streak. He can be playful and flirty when the mood is right and with the proper people and doesn't shy from giving or receiving attention to anyone who hasn't actively pissed him off in the past, ever. Kzakka is a bit more tolerant than most Alks (particularly where hybrids are concerned), though he is still fairly racist against most people who haven't accepted Aisha into their lives. As in, his mother Katerin still prays to her gods, but there are probably no circumstances under which Kaz would begrudge her that.
Because she, like him, isn't afraid to be different in this land. Description: Youngling

H I S T O R Y
Halona and Katerin had their first encounter during a time of war.
Katerin Rekuta was a young and inexperienced girl, born a noble and pressured by her family to take up arms and aid her country in their struggle to claim the vast and unexplored lands of Tendaji. It was never much an option to refuse, and even less an option to quit once she’d started, despite how immediately obvious her lack of prowess in combat was. In her very first skirmish, fighting through the wilds of Jauhar and all the unfamiliar specimens it concealed in its depths, she was separated from her troupe, and captured by natives.
By this point in Halona Makderi's life, she was already well-trained for battle by her sisters and taught to expect the worst of all earthling scum. But she'd also learned a respect for nature and the lives it created. Earthlings were the bane of the Alkidikes' existence, but some power had placed them here on this earth, and that had to mean something. Fortunately for Kat, Lona was in the capturing party, and she believed that one girl, with hardly the ability to kill a spitorog, was not enough of a threat to them to merit the death her sisters had planned for her. Halona set the Fire girl free with the promise that if they were to ever meet in battle, she would be the first to die.
If this was not a blessing and a sign, Kat didn't know what was.
She fled the jungles and refused to return to her post. War was not for her. Battle was not her forte. Death wouldn't touch her. Not today. For all her certainties in that regard, the next several years proved to be more of a trial than she would've thought possible. She was said to have 'defected' from the army, so Kat was no longer welcome in her own home. Oba was the only land she knew, the only place she had family, and the one place that was suddenly barred to her.
Instead, she wandered, moving aimlessly from place to place and learning how to better fend for herself, both in terms of basic survival and combat proficiency. She visited Matori, Jauhar, and Tale, and learned that in her heart, she must have been an explorer, anyway. This life suited her more than the one she'd had before, even if there were a grossly increased number of near-death experiences, and even if the people in these foreign lands still shunned her for the things those of her race had tried to do. So many things were beautiful in this world, and it was one worth fighting for.
So when the next great crisis spread across Tendaji, Katerin was there. And so too, apparently, was Halona.
The Alkidike tribe was split amongst itself, between the extremists, trying to spread its influence over Tendaji (not so different than what the Obans had done only a few short years prior), and the more conservative of their sisters. Neither group especially liked their earthling neighbors, but only one side was willing to fight alongside them, Halona among them. It was here that Katerin and Halona found themselves side-by-side, on the same side for the first time, and here that (in the midst of a post-battle adrenaline high) they laid the foundation for what would blossom into a romance. Kat jibed that Lona hadn’t managed to keep her promise.
The not-yet-couple returned to Jauhar together in the aftermath. Despite the victory they'd achieved for Alkidike hybrids and couples of various parentage, it was still a long while before Halona decided she could consider an outsider as her lifelong mate. It didn't matter to her whether or not it pleased anyone else (and it most certainly didn't and doesn't, still), but it was so far beyond anything she thought she'd ever do, that her affections toward the Fire woman never really sunk in for the Alkidike until they'd been together for near a decade. In fact, it wasn't Kat who first offered the idea of more to her partner, but Lona.
The idea of a child-bearing tree was unheard of to Katerin. She'd never asked for or expected anything more from Halona than she was already receiving, and they both knew that no child between them would be welcome.
Still, the Alkidike woman was persistent and very positive in her assurances that should the great mother give them this gift, no one would keep it from them. Any lotus bloomed by Aisha was special, and so long as their child stuck to the Alkidike ways, she would be welcome among them. Or welcome enough. Halona would see to that. Together, they sought a child from Aisha, and despite Katerin's uncertainties, a lotus bloomed for them.
There was no scenario where either of them expected a boy, but Kzakka was born, just the same. The two women have slightly different parenting styles concerning him, with Katerin's teachings being to be more acquiescent to Alkidike ways and to try and win favor with his sisters. Halona prefers that her child doesn't take anyone's crap. He is not the same as the other Alks, and he shouldn't force himself to behave as such, if it doesn't please him. They're both very loving parents, but their differing attitudes often leave Kaz conflicted.
