It was midnight and everything was glistening. Snow had just finished falling on the streets of Destiny City and a sort of calm had descended over the world. It was a feeling that one could only know if they'd been in a similar situation-- Calm and serene, the only sound the soft twinkling of snow crystals settling.

There wasn't a car in sight on the road, the plows wouldn't be out until morning. It was a perfect night for sleeping sweetly and dreaming of beautiful things. It was a beautiful night for being bundled up under blankets, even if you weren't sleeping.

Corvus wasn't sleeping, nor was she bundled under blankets. She had pondered putting on layers of clothing and winter boots to crunch through the snow, but why settle for just that when you could add on to the magic of midnight by actually being magical. She had headed up to the roof to power up instead, heading a few buildings over before dropping down to the street to peacefully enjoy a stroll through Destiny City's version of a winter wonderland.

Patrolling was hard.

He was still so unused to it, still so new even if it had been almost a year. Emrys couldn't help but feel utterly useless, though as of late, he'd been doing a lot better in terms of actually being active in his squirehood. As daunting as it may be, he always seemed to feel a little better when he had accomplished something.

He was out now, pacing through the thick snow, shivering a little in the cold. Fortunately, his uniform afforded him a very satisfactory set of layers to prevent freezing, but Emrys still took his time, sidestepping a small heap of glistening, glittering white powder and almost falling into another in the process.

A power signature flared gently into life somewhere close by, and Emrys nearly felt his heart stop, panic immediately racing through him. It subsided a moment later, however, when he recognized it as Order, not Chaos, and a small fraction of tension ebbed out of him.

The senshi he saw, however, was unfamiliar. Emrys peered at her, clutching his staff.

"H - hullo," he said nervously, shifting from one foot to the other.

Corvus had not anticipated running into anyone else, but the feeling of another Order aura brought a smile to her face. The person attached to the aura was a new face-- Good. New, but... There was also something very familiar about him as well.

"Salutations," she spoke softly, doing her best to seem as unimposing as possible and perhaps do something to ease his anxiousness. It was likely difficult, what with the stark contrast of her uniform against the backdrop of the sparkling snow along with the ridiculous wing bow attached to her backside. It would be all the more tempting to tear it off if she didn't know it would just come back the next time she powered up.

She bowed her head politely before holding her hand out to the-- Well, one of the stages of the Knight ranks, she was certain, although which? She wasn't the best at figuring that out just by looking quite yet. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting yet-- Sailor Corvus, at your service. Would you like a bit of company this evening?"

She was not exactly intimidating, but Emrys was still nervous nonetheless, because, well...he was Emrys. And everyone made him nervous, unless it was Celsus or Eurydike, for obvious reasons. Even Athene still made him anxious, and Athene had said they were friends.

She was stronger than him, though, he could tell; the power signatures were pretty obvious when it came to things like levels and differences in abilities. Emrys held his staff a little closer to himself, just out of instinct, though the smile the senshi offered him was a kind one.

He tried to remember if he'd heard the name Corvus before; it sounded familiar, but her face was not one that Emrys had seen before, that much he knew, at the very least.

"I'm - E-Emrys," he said, flushing. "I - oh, er..."

Come on. You can do better than that.

Eurydike's voice was inside of his head, warm and comforting. Emrys swallowed hard, taking a small, steadying breath that he hoped wasn't too obvious.

"Y-yes, if you don't m-mind," he said. "I'm - er - E- Emrys. Of Neptune."

When the nervous squire spoke his name the familiarity she felt in seeing his face made sense and her smile broadened. "I don't mind at all, Emrys of Neptune. As a matter of fact, it would be my pleasure. We have a mutual friend in common, you see... Knight Celsus of Chronos is a dear friend of mine."

She hoped that information would bring a bit of comfort to Emrys; enough for him to remember to breathe, at the very least. Her extended hand drifted back down to her side as she gave him the same space she would have Celsus when he'd been at his worst.

He didn't know why she was smiling at him like that; it made him slightly nervous, Emrys shrinking back a little - but he could hear his brother's voice in his head, as well as Hitch's, reminding him to keep standing straight, even if it was taking a lot of effort to do just that.

He opened his mouth, then shut it again, Emrys's cheeks flushing a dark red.

"O...oh," he said. It didn't relax him entirely (nothing ever did), but it did make some of the tension ease out of his shoulders as Emrys shifted from one foot to the other. He felt a swell of embarrassment at his lack of manners, and after a moment of internally fighting with himself, Emrys extended his hand out towards her again.

"I - s-so you've met my brother, t-then?"

Corvus took the hand that had been extended, giving it a firm but gentle squeeze in an attempt to be reassuring. "I have met your brother, yes-- A little over a year ago, actually." It had been longer than that, in truth, but their first meeting years ago had been fleeting and she felt as though she'd been different enough as a person that it likely didn't count anyways.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you. Celsus has mentioned you before." Obviously. You knew his name, didn't you? She chastised herself mentally as she released the squire's hand. In the event he had the same aversion to touch that Celsus did she didn't want to impose on him for too long. "Good things, I promise."

Her hand did not crush his, nor did she try and be overly friendly. The simple and firm shake was enough to somewhat reassure Emrys, even if he was still very wary of being around anyone he didn't know. Even patrolling on his own felt nervewracking, in spite of Hitch and Fritz's continued praise.

"O - oh," he said now, trying to figure out if his brother had ever mentioned a "Corvus." Or, if he had, if Emrys ever remembered it.

"I...well, I should hope so," he mumbled now, thoroughly embarrassed. Emrys shifted from one foot to the other, still clutching his staff in his gloved hands. She was very pretty and very kind; but he was not easily taken out of his perpetual state of anxiousness, after all.

"A-are you one of the ones he, er, patrols with, t-then?" Emrys asked tentatively.

"Sometimes, yes. We meet in the park and ponder the meaning of life while making sure that no unsavory characters are lurking around waiting to deface the playground." Her lips twitched at the corners as she put effort into trying not to grin. More often than not 'patrolling' with Celsus was something far more lighthearted. It generally involved a bit of banter, catching up on weekly events and sometimes sharing snacks. Sometimes she was certain it only barely counted as patrol.

Whatever it was it got them both out and about and she would eternally count that as a good thing in her book.

"What about you, Emrys? Has he been showing you the ropes? If you're ever in need of a patrol partner, I would be happy to accompany you as well." She would just have to find out what his favorite candy was, if that were to happen.

Something in him was slowly unwinding the longer he stood there talking to Corvus; some knot of tension deep within Emrys that was always persistent, because he could not help the anxiety that consistently swept through him, making him shy of strangers, and of everyone in general.

But Corvus was kind and she was patient, and she wasn't pushing him. And she knew Celsus, which was making it easier. Emrys gave a small nod.

"T-that...I mean, yes," he said, swallowing hard. "He and my f-fiance, both, um, they both h-help when they can."

His face was flushed, Emrys' cheeks pink.

"B-but I think they wouldn't m-mind if I patrolled with, um, y-you as well."

"I don't think they would mind either-- A good thing, really, as I could always use someone to patrol with." To anyone who had known her prior to when she had achieved the status of Eternal those words coming from her mouth would have come as a surprise. Corvus had once been insistent that she didn't need anyone; that she was perfectly capable of doing it all on her own...

She wasn't. That wasn't how they were meant to operate. No one senshi could do it all on their own. They were meant to work together and it would be much easier to do so if they learned to work with Knights as well. If they could all work together and support each other they could be capable of anything.

"If you ever cross paths with Sailor Arsinoe or Mag Mell of Cosmos, you can trust them too. Arsinoe is my cousin and Mag Mell," Corvus paused for a moment, pondering her words when it came to the Cosmos Knight. "He was once in the same situation as you were before you became Emrys of Neptune."

Emrys let out a breath that he hadn't realized he'd been holding, his expression steadily shifting from one of abject anxious fear to an almost curious one, gaze flicking over Corvus's uniform. She was as friendly and open and welcoming as Celsus had indicated; it didn't make it any less nervewracking, meeting someone new, but at least he knew he could trust her.

"Ah..." Emrys had flushed again, but he knew her meeting, his head bobbing up and down in a nod. "I...yes, I t-think it would be, um, n-nice to meet someone else in, um, a s-similar situation as m-mine..."

He trailed off, the old shame and embarrassment coiling in his stomach.

"Are there..." Emrys struggled to formulate the question. "Are there a...a l-lot like...like m-me?"

"Honestly?" Her brow quirked, head tilting just so as she gazed at the Squire of Neptune. "I hope so, but I don't know. It doesn't seem to be something that is spoken of nearly as much as it should be; that there's an option... A way to save you." It wouldn't work for all of them. Some agents of the Negaverse were so far gone that she didn't believe anything could save them. But others?

"I've known Mag Mell since we were children. We were in primary school together before his mother and father shipped him off to boarding school." Around the same time her own family had enrolled her in Crystal Academy, hoping to give her a place to 'fit in' when all it did was change who she was when she wasn't around them.

"Has knighthood been treating you kindly, Emrys?"

It was somewhat...encouraging, perhaps, to know that there were others who had possibly made the same bad decisions as Emrys had. Embarrassing as well, but everything was embarrassing. He felt himself flush, but it was more out of shame this time than anything else.

"Yes," he said, after a moment, his voice small. "I...y-yes, I am g-glad that there is a w-way to save us."

If there hadn't been...

Emrys didn't want to think about it. He took a breath and gave Corvus a tentative look as he said, "It...yes, I mean. I h-haven't done much, admittedly, b-but, um...it's...it's not so bad. And I can't remember what I did in the N-Negaverse, but I feel like it...it's better than whatever that was."

"Mag Mell doesn't remember anything about the time he spent with the Negaverse either. I think it's for the best, honestly, having known who he was before as well-- Troublesome, and a bit of a pain in the a**, but not inherently evil." As she felt some of the others in the Negaverse most certainly were. Whatever bin they scraped the bottom of for some of their early recruits had to have contained a lot of defects...

"It's not bad to not do much while you're still getting your feet beneath you. Better than running head first into the unknown, at least? I did a bit of that when I first woke up. Thought I could take on the world by myself." Corvus smirked softly as she looked to her companion. "Better to do that sort of thing with friends, really."

The conversation flowed easily enough between them and she did her best to treat it much as she would have an early conversation between she and Celsus-- nothing to pushy, no questions that were overly invasive, only gentle prods and smiles as they rounded the park together. When they'd made a full circle Sailor Corvus paused, turning to face the Squire of Neptune once more.

"I believe I've taken up more than enough of your evening, Emrys. It has been an absolute pleasure and I don't want you thinking anything otherwise," she spoke in the same soft, reassuring tone she had used throughout the majority of their talk that evening, reaching out to give his wrist a brief, gentle squeeze. "Should you ever need anything, please feel free to reach out to me... And should you see your brother before I do? Please tell him I said hello."
