Tybalt enjoyed the P.E. class the most. It was when they were able to be as active as they wanted to be, and boy did they want to be active. Kirket had recently brought in some gymnastics equipment, which he seemed to be regretting as… well… Most of the kids went berserk over it and were bouncing all over the place. Tybalt was one of these kids. They were currently hanging from one of the bars upside-down, legs hooked to keep them in place, hands still grasping the bar… for now. As soon as Kirket looked away to assist another kid with the small balance beam he’d brought in, Tybalt let go. They dangled in place, stretching their arms down toward the ground. This felt perfect. Maybe they could get Kirket to get even bigger bars for them to use when they got older!

Fuyu did not like P.E.. Well, they did in theory, because it was good to be healthy, but this was just reckless. Balance beams, gymnast bars, and springboards were dangerous! Mister Kirket was a nice man, he was friends with their mother, but he seemed a little overwhelmed with the room full of freshlings all seemingly determined to get themselves hurt. Fuyu had taken it upon themself to help him. Kirket had, admittedly, been a little dismissive by their declaration offer to help, but that didn’t deter them at all.
Some kid was trying to run on the balance beam, and had garnered Kirket’s full attention. That meant it was Fuyu’s time to shine. Out of the corner of their eye, they spotted a kid on the bars let go and hang upside down! How dangerous! Immediately they trotted over, waving their arms.
“You can’t do that! You’ll fall on your head!”

Tybalt knew of Fuyu, but hadn’t spoken to them directly. Usually they at least tried to be polite during first encounters, but it seemed that Fuyu was going to start this one off on the wrong foot. They stared at the other freshling blankly, and folded their arms across their chest. “Says who? I don’t see any rules ‘bout not hangin’ upside-down on the bars.” They rolled their eyes. Admittedly the blood rushing to their head was starting to get a little bit uncomfortable… but they’d ride it out just to defy this kid. Who did they think they were? It wasn’t like Kirket had officially stated that Fuyu was the class helper or something.

Defiance! Clear lack of self-preservation! Fuyu SIGHED in exasperation. “You’ll fall and crack your head open! Or break your neck!” They replied. Surely Tybalt knew that. Sure, they hadn’t learned too much about bones or how easy it was to break them in normal classes but Fuyu liked to think they knew A Lot about health stuff because their mom was the school nurse. So clearly their knowledge of these things was far superior to all other students. Clearly. “You gotta put your hands on the bar or you gotta get off.” They nodded and placed their hands on their hips, striking a pose akin to a mother scolding their child.

Oh, so they were going to play this game. Tybalt’s expression shifted from defiance to a wide smirk, showing off every perfect tooth. “There’s a safety mat under the bars if you didn’t notice~” They replied in a near sing-song tone. Just to stir the pot, they began to swing back and forth just a little, using their core to curl forward to start the motion. “You aren’t the teacher or a teacher’s aide sooo~ i don’t have to listen to you, y’know.” They unfolded their arms and shrugged, holding them “up” in a show of dismissal. “Why don’t you go do something else? You’re supposed to get your heart beating during P.E. after all.”

That smirk was just… infuriating. Couldn’t they see that they were just trying to lessen the chances of them getting hurt?? They were being very unsafe! “That doesn’t matter, you could still land in just the right way to do some really bad damage!” Fuyu retorted. And then Tybalt began to swing. Fuyu gasped quietly, waving their hands in distress. “Stop! Stop!! You’re going to slip off and it’ll be really bad!” Their tail waved in distress as they spoke. Honestly, they should go find Kirket and bring him over straight away. “And-- And I pretty much am the teacher’s aide!” They weren’t about to let this kid continue with this reckless behavior. They’d pull out whatever stops they needed to to end this.

This kid was so paranoid… Tybalt sighed, dropping their arms so that they dangled while they swung. “I’m not gonna slide anywhere. You’re too paranoid!” They shook their head. Apparently their not-so-subtle attempt to get them to leave wasn’t going to work. And not only that, it just appeared to have made them more determined to be something they clearly weren't. “You don’t have the badge… soooo what makes you the aide?” They quirked a brow, just waiting for them to try and pull them off the bar or something. Of course, that would get them in trouble so Tybalt doubted they’d do it… unless they really lost their head or something.

“I am not.” Fuyu huffed in response. Ugh, they were just making it worse dangling their arms like that. Fuyu realized they could totally just… pull them down, but that might endanger them even more… Or, if they controlled… they could pull them forward and that wouldn’t have any risk for hitting their head… “Well- I help out with a lot of stuff and my mom’s the nurse so I know what I’m talking about.” They offered up the explanation hoping that Tybalt would buy it. “Mister Kirket is friends with my mom, too.” There, that should do it. If they didn’t buy the first part, they’d at least get the gist that if anything happened Kirket was sure to take their side and not Tybalt’s.

They slowed to a halt, blinking slowly. Right. They were going to play the ‘I’m related to a staff member’ card and expect them to just… go with it. “Uh-huh… sure..” Tybalt adjusted themself to have only one leg hooked over the bar while the other stuck straight up in the air, and then extended their arms to the sides. “My dad’s the social studies teacher and he teaches illusion, soooo don’t try to play that card with me. You don’t get special privileges any more than I do.” It was gross. How many times had they pulled that on other kids just because they didn’t like what they were doing?
“Basically you aren’t anything special and you’re getting really annoying. Go away.”

Oh.
Well.
That backfired stupendously.
They had no idea that Tybalt was Tethys’ student… Didn’t Tybalt have a record for getting bad grades in that class? (Fuyu would never admit to it, but they snuck glances at everyone’s grades when they could.) “I-- well-- That--...” They stumbled over their words, mind blanking as they tried to come up with an excuse. Tybalt of course had to deal the final blow by stating they weren’t anything special and were, in fact, annoying. Ugh. Regardless of those “facts” they were still doing something really dangerous! They huffed, tail swinging in annoyance for a few seconds.
“I don’t care if I’m annoying, I’m right.” They weren’t really sure what they were thinking, but in retaliation to Tybalt’s rather blunt call-out, they reached out to take hold of their arms just under their shoulders and pulled.

Oh, crap. Tybalt quickly attempted to secure their other leg around the bar again, but it was too late. They came crashing to the ground in an unceremonious heap, hitting the mat with a resounding slapping sound. They, of course, hurriedly rolled off of Fuyu (whom they had landed on) and pushed themselves up. “What is your problem!? I was totally secure until YOU pulled me down! Don’t ever touch me again!” They didn’t care that they were being particularly loud, Fuyu had done them a massive wrong and they were going to make that very, very clear.
Kirket hurried over to them looking concerned. Before he could open his mouth to ask what had happened, Tybalt turned to face him and pointed at Fuyu. “They pulled me off of the bars because they didn’t like how I was using them! I wasn’t doing anything wrong.” Their tendrils flared as they spoke. It wasn’t every day that Tybalt indicated some emotion other than amusement, but oh, they were livid.
Kirket of course paused to check if they were both okay, then motioned for Fuyu to follow him out of the room. Thankfully P.E. was over anyway. Tybalt left with the rest of the class to change back into their uniform- Fuyu did not return while they were all changing. Served them right.
