Name: Kiri
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Anything goes!
Craft: Feline Handler
Rank: Apprentice
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Kiri takes more after her mother in appearance than she does her father. She stands about 5'7", but is naturally thin and lithe. She has few curves, with thin hips and a small chest, but none of that seems to bother her. Her dark brown hair is long, but often tied up or braided. Her eyes are golden brown, and she sports quite long lashes. In fact, Kiri could be considered quite attractive if she bothered to clean herself up. As it stands, she's more likely to have cuts, bruises, and dirt stains on her at any given time. She's not entirely a tomboy, but she prefers to wear practical clothing as opposed to dresses and skirts. Any clothing that allows her to run and climb without fully disgracing herself is good enough for her!
Personality: This petite girl is known as a firecracker. Where other girls might be taught to be lady-like, proper, and demure, Kiri isn't having any of it. She is wild, she is carefree, and she is incredibly independent. This young woman will do what she wants, when she wants, and nobody is going to say a thing about it! Incredibly active, Kiri isn't known to stay still for very long. She prefer to be doing something -- anything -- from swimming, to climbing, to generally running amok. She is energetic, and tends to get incredibly impatient when she's asked to be still or quiet. While she's calmed down a bit with age, and has learned that patience has its place (especially when dealing with felines, hunting, or fishing) the girl has also turned her boundless energy into other activities.
Her independence does often get her in trouble. She doesn't always like to abide by rules, especially if she thinks them outdated, or generally worthless. This has gotten her into trouble, and her defiance has made her no stranger to punishment. Thankfully, Kiri is quite unlike her eldest brother, K'din. While K'din had always fallen to pieces over criticism, Kiri only gets ever more defiant.
While she isn't entirely a tomboy -- she certainly likes fashion even if she doesn't wear it herself, and can enjoy a nice perfume or glittering bracelet -- she never fit well into the backwards box her small fishing Hold had wanted her to fit into. She was loud where the women were preferred to be silent; she ran with the gang of boys and tore up her clothes due to her rough and tumble games; and she wanted more than to be married off. Her father used to joke that she would make a far better pirate than a seamaster, and Kiri tended to agree.
Despite her penchant for trouble, Kiri does look out for her own. She might get her middle sibling in trouble with her, but she would never do so around her eldest, far more reserved brother, K'din. Like her brother, Shinnikin, Kiri sometimes has a temper, and is known to be rash. If someone is being put down, particularly someone she likes, she'll not waste any time cutting them down to size either with her words or her fist, if need be. Just let someone try to walk all over her -- they will find it ends poorly.
Despite her wild nature, Kiri is generally amicable to others. She doesn't struggle making friends, and certainly enjoys any attention bestowed upon her. Similar to Shinnikin, she doesn't have trouble talking, or making new friends, and so long as you're no a bully, she'll be more than happy to talk to you, too.
The downside is that Kiri doesn't often like to address her own feelings. She moves at a million miles per hour, and doesn't often like to afford time, or patience, to think about herself. Her parents recently succumbed to Threadfall, and she hasn't entirely figured out how to handle it. The best she can do is hope to Impress so she might destroy the great enemy. Grieving isn't an option -- not really. The tears haven't yet come, and if they have, it's been far away from judging eyes. Instead, Kiri bottles in her feelings, just like her brother K'din. If it's not positive, defying someones orders, or anger, then there'sa good chance this girl is going to keep it firmly bottled to think about later. But with Kiri, there never is any time for later.
Positive Traits: Energetic, Fearless, Independent, Good Humored
Negative Traits: Impulsive, Quick Tempered, Defiant, Aggressive
History: Kiri was the youngest child of a family born up in a minor Tillek Hold. Growing up she had very little by way of problems or trouble. Her eldest brother cooed over her, and spoiled her with all sorts of things; her younger brother treated her like one of the boys, and made sure she never lacked a playmate or attention. The three siblings were quite close growing up -- Kiri found out that her eldest brother was a pushover if all she did was pout, or cry, and her middle brother let her get away with murder. To say she was spoiled wasn't far from the truth -- her parents put their foot down whenever she got out of hand, and she learned early on that some rules were not meant to be broken.
It wasn't that she was a bad child; she simply was headstrong, stubborn, and had too much energy to know what to do with! While her eldest brother was reserved, Kiri was practically fearless -- if anyone dared her to do something, she would do it. If anybody challenged her, she would rise to the occasion and show them that she was't afraid. This caused her parents some grief, and her brother, Shinnikin, didn't help keep her out of trouble!
When both of her brothers were sent off to their craft, that left Kiri quite alone. She had her friends, but some of the girls wanted more of a mundane life than Kiri. She hated her home Hold. It was tiny, and while her father and brother loved the sea, Kiri wanted something different. She certainly loved animals, and riding runners amused her, so she initially tried to walk the path of her brother, K'din, and mother as a beastcrafter.
Unfortunately, the girl simply didn't have as keen an interest in the bovines, ovines, and domestic wherries she initially studied and cared for. It was when a Master Feline Handler came in and brought a few other handlers that Kiri found her calling. Felinehandling wasn't something just anybody could do; it required immense amounts of study, and ultimately trust. Thankfully, Kiri made enough of an impression that she was eventually taken under apprenticeship by some locally stationed journeymen. She worked with them and their felines, finding immense enjoyment in both hunting and tracking. As she aged, it was decided to send her down to Rubicon River Hold, where the main Feline Hall was founded. The hope was that, after another Turn or two of study, she might make Journeymanship and the chance to bond with a feline her very own.
Life on the Southern Continent was quite different, but she settled in well enough. Though she missed her family, getting to work with the felines and their handlers, and learning more about the craft was worth it. Just after her 18th Turn, she was sent west with a small group of handlers and other apprentices. They were to track down a group of feral felines on some island chains between Southern and Western, as well as ensure that the locals weren't antagonizing any local prides. Unfortunately, disaster struck. While making the crossing, Thread fell and caught the ships off guard. Their craft was destroyed, many on the vessel drown, and the small group that survived wound up washed ashore a near deserted island.
They were stuck for days until sweep riders from Western Weyr found them. By then, injuries and sickness from exposure had set in. Kiri and a few others caught a nasty strain of firehead. All were brought back to Western Weyr to recuperate, and to learn that Pern's life was now turned upside down. The girl eventually recovered, and was given the option to stay in the Weyr, or to be returned to the Feline Hall. Surprisingly, they claimed that she had been found on Search. If she wished to stay, they needed all the help they could get.
While Kiri yearned to continue her craft studies, she had been notified that Thread had destroyed her hold in Tillek. While her brothers were safe in High Reaches Weyr, she decided to give Candidacy a chance. If her oldest brother, so reserved and shy, could Impress, then she knew she could too. While she felt as if she was abandoning her love for felines, the girl knew that she could return to the if she aged out or felt the call. Besides, it was't as if there weren't feline handlers on the Western Continent. She didn't have to be entirely away from them. . .
Pern needed fighters, and Kiri was not afraid. For now, she would support the Weyr, and if a dragonet found her, than she would defend the planet that needed their aid.
Other: She's an excellent climber and great swimmer.
