Last night had proved to be an interesting night for Jett; typically he had a set reigment but had opted instead to walk home. Which was, of course, when he spotted a Dark Mirror Senshi he was familiar enough with that he recognized her atop the rooftop of a nearby building--kissing a Negaverse Agent.

He stared, for just a moment, tried to memorize their features and take in all the details that he could. But he didn't stay for long; he didn't want to out himself to the agent in case they saw him and decided to investigate.

He went home--and texted Aubrey that he wanted to meet up with her the next day.

Powered, of course, and a discrete meeting point.

He arrived early and, despite the cold chill in the air and the uncomfortably cold metal, he was lounging on a bench near the fountain while he awaited her arrival.

Aubrey had been surprised to get Jett's text, she hadn't heard from him in a few months and while she was vaguely aware of what was going on with the dark mirror senshi's she did not keep up to date with the daily details. However she could not refuse a meeting of her superior so naturally she agreed to his meeting though she didn't know what it would be about.

Fortuna arrived when she was told to and strolled up to Remarque with a brisk spring in her step. She had been genuinely happy for the last week, things were finally going smoothly with Samir and it was nice going on actual dates with the person she had been falling in love with.

"Hey, it's good to see you! Why did you want to meet?" she questioned cheerfully as she stood in front of him with one hand on her hip glancing down at him.

Remarque watched her, examined her pep, and then casually just shrugged. He didn't pat the bench for her to sit next to him; it was cold. Probably moreso for her, with that outfit. Instead, he stood up so that he was closer to her eye level.

"Just figured there was probably some things we should talk about. What have you been up to? You taking care of yourself?" he asked, innocently enough. He had a topic that he wanted to get to, but there was no point in rushing it. Their last conversation was not so long ago that this meeting was awkward, but it seemed like a better idea just to make sure she was doing all right.

Then, they could talk about why he'd really called her here.

Fortuna frowned ever so slightly, Remarque wasn't normally the kind of person who called to just "catch up" she there must have been some reason behind him asking to meet her, however she couldn't force him to come out and say it so she mentally shrugged and would have to wait for him to get to it in his own time.

"I've been alright, things have been mostly quiet on the patrols, few scrapes here and there but nothing that couldn't be handled." she responded, though there was the one senshi who had tried to murder her, most of her battles had been fought amicably with people who were more interested in learning about the dark mirror than killing them. Then of course there was Lopezite.

"And personally, I have the hearing for custody scheduled for next month, hopefully that goes well. Kerrigan told me that it really seems like our father was changing, I don't know if it was just me he hated so much but I still prefer my sisters out of his house." Fortuna informed him as she continued to watch him cautiously. It should be a friendly meeting but there was still a subtle feeling like there was an ax about to fall somewhere, and she didn't wan't to be caught off guard.

"How about you? I haven't heard from you in a while. Is everything going well?" She asked, directing the focus away from herself for a moment.

Remarque nodded. "I'm doing well," he said easily enough. It was true--the Court was alive, and he was doing well at home. "Fingers crossed that the custody hearing goes well. You let me know if there's anything I can do to help out."

He didn't want to pry; the door was open if she wanted to talk about it, but he wasn't going to say anything that could make her uncomfortable.

Her civilian life was her business, and he'd help out if he could. Her powered life...he had a little more room to be worried about her.

He broached the topic with a slight amount of grace. "Is that Negaverse Lieutenant helping you out?" he asked, watching her.

Fortuna nodded with a small smile. "I'll do that, I don't think there is anything I need from you right now, but I will keep the offer in mind." She responded easily before his second question hit home. She did not openly react to the comment just a subtle shift in her standing position as she considered him for a moment, wondering how to respond. It was clear he probably had her best interest at heart, but she wasn't sure how she felt about being questioned about her love life.

"I didn't realize there were rules about who we were or were not allowed to date..." she said quietly as she watched him, gauging his reaction to her words.

"He is not our enemy, and I have found him to be very helpful, thank you." her arms crossed in front of her in a defensive position, revealing that she felt attacked by the question.

Remarque watched her carefully, mindful not to be too overbearing. He couldn't help but raise a brow as he read her body language.

"Relax," he insisted. "You're getting defensive and I haven't even had a chance to give you any sort of reprimand."

There was a hint of teasing in his voice, but he didn't drag his silence out for too long and instead continued, "There aren't rules about who you're allowed to date. I'm glad you've found someone you can confide in. Someone to support you. He might be the finest person you've ever met, and I respect that. I just wanted to talk to you about the Negaverse. I want to warn you about a few things."

Fortuna let out a sigh and dropped her arms to her sides and simply inclined her head towards Remarque.

"I won't go into his character, since that doesn't seem to be what you are here for, then please, warn me about the negaverse." She said quietly, not showing that she was hurt by his lack of faith in her own judgment.

One one hand she could appreciate the fact that he was trying to look out for her. But Fortuna was smart enough to look out for herself and this little talk made it seem like Remarque didn't really trust her.

"What did you need to tell me?"

Remarque watched her closely before he gave over and gave her shoulder a squeeze. "Don't be upset with me, Fortuna. The Negaverse is responsible for more betrayals than I could list. I don't know if we've ever talked about them in the capacity that we needed to. There is..."

He was quiet for a moment.

"There is a future, that could be looming on the horizon. Where the Negaverse rises to power. Where they entrap the world, and trick them into serving Metallia. Where the Senshi and Knights grow so few in number that they are all but lost. And when the Negaverse runs out of them...we're next, on the chopping block. For whatever reason, some time ago...we were all given a vision. Of a future that might come to pass. And many things are already falling into place.

His daughter, among them.

"I don't know if we've been able to impact the chance of our future yielding such results. The Dark Mirror Court is in the same shoddy shape, though. The Negaverse saw this future, too. They already think they have the upper hand--but for as little progress as the Court has made, neither have they made progress on learning what they can for us. We're the underdog in all of this. They expect us to fail. But, we have an opportunity they don't. If we can just figure out Mirrorspace...maybe we can find a way out of all of this."

He seemed determined, but exasperated; he was working as hard as he could, but progress was slow--if there was any at all.

Fortuna relaxed subtly when he squeezed her shoulder, it helped her know he was on her side, even if it still kinda felt like an attack, but she listened intently because it was important to know.

She frowned as she listened to him explain the possible future in store for them, but while he spoke, Fortuna couldn't help but feel like it wouldn't apply to Lopezite. He could never turn on her... right?

"This Nega... he's new, and he isn't all brainwashed into believing that Metallia's way is the only way, he is skeptical of his own faction, and though curious about ours he has never refused to share anything he has learned about the Negaverse. But even he knows there are things that aren't told to low ranking members." Her voice was quiet, and less defensive, more so just trying to lay out the facts as she saw them.

"Why haven't you asked me for help with Mirrorspace?" she added as an after thought, she didn't really know much about the dimension but she had always assumed that Remarque did, it did not bode well that their leader was just about as clueless as the rest of them.

Remarque shrugged; there were a hundred reasons why he hadn't asked for help about Mirrorspace. It was dangerous--and discouraging. And she had enough on her plate. "One day. Probably in the near future, I might call on you for help with Mirrorspace. But that's not important right now--your Nega. New is good, but not for long. You know the higher they climb in her ranks, the more they lose themselves to her, don't you?"

Truthfully, he didn't know what she knew about it; it wasn't like there was a manual. He knew only what he'd seen, himself.

"I've seen them start off new, idealistic, and by the time they're a General, they're a shell of their former self. Their morality, their willingness to do things, changes. She has them wrapped around her little finger, bound to her every whim. When he grows stronger, when he becomes a high ranking member--will he still share information with you? ...Will he still be trustworthy? I just don't want the rug to be pulled from beneath you. If you want to see where things go, that's fine--but I'm just saying, be careful. I'm not going to let you go into this blind, that's all. Don't give him any information you wouldn't be comfortable with Metallia knowing. At least, not until you're sure you can trust him. But you might not even know if you can trust him until he's a General--until he's had the opportunity to be truly corrupted by her."

Fortuna listened carefully to his words, even if she hated them, even if she could believe that love would win over a base instinct that came from serving a higher power, she knew logically that his words made sense and it was wise to be cautious.

He wasn't telling her she couldn't see Lopezite, just to be careful, which she had already planned to be. Even so, love had a hard time listening to reason, and it would be helpful to know that there was someone looking out for her.

"I don't share much information with him, no more than what could be casually observed by any person, like what our ideals are, our reasons to fight, that sort of thing." she said quietly, not as defensively, it was clear that his words hit home and while she was somber she would heed his warnings.

Remarque nodded, seeming satisfied with this response. "Things change, in war. The Negaverse and the Dark Mirror Senshi are at odds with each other--I have no love for them," he shrugged and cracked a slight grin, "But I know you can't help when you fall in love. It's not like it wouldn't be good to have someone you could trust. For a long time I've wondered if the Negaverse is planning to strike down the Dark Mirror Court. I might not care for the Negaverse or their plans, but I don't think I've got anything planned to outright attack them. They might not be extending that same courtesy to us, though."

He shrugged. "Maybe if they start making a move he'll give us a little warning. Honestly? I don't know. I don't have a lot of faith in them. But," he sighed and clapped her shoulder. "If he treats you right and keeps you happy, maybe he can't be that bad, hmm?"

Fortuna nodded slightly. "I would like to think he would try to give us some sort of warning before an attack happens, he is intelligent and diligent, I have no doubts that he could rise quickly through their ranks, but maybe having met me first will prevent him from giving himself over fully to Metallia... At least that's what my heart is telling me."

She frowned and paced briefly back and forth before she looked up at Remarque with a deep pain in her eyes. All she wanted was to throw herself blindly into love and let it carry her far away from her troubles, but now she knew his words would always be in the back of her mind, questioning things when she would have had blind faith, she could only hope it didn't ruin any possible future that Samir and Aubrey could have together.

"I will keep your words close to heart and be careful. As for Mirrorspace... it is important for it to be explored as much as we can, so call on me if you need me, the future of our faction is worth whatever stresses or dangers Mirrorspace may present."

Remarque nodded slowly. It wasn't a bad idea to have an ally in the Negaverse; he had a few friends, even, but he wasn't emotionally compromised. Love made people do strange things, after all; Fortuna had enough hardships in her life; she didn't need a complicated love life, too.

"If you trust him, I trust you. What's his name? I'll keep my eyes out for him. Maybe be a little easier on him if we cross paths," he grumbled. It was partially a joke; in all reality, he'd probably be a little harder on him, just to make sure he was a good guy.

He wanted Fortuna to be right--not just for the benefit it could bring the Dark Mirror Court, but because it would be nice to have her happy.

Far too many people were leaving the Court. They needed a reason to stay.

"Mirorrspace, though," he sighed. "Yeah. Actually, I would't mind a little company while I'm running around. We should get together on a night when you're free. What's your schedule like these days?"
