Kodi was not accustomed to even being near a club. Nor was she sure if she was properly dressed. Didn't the girls dress all scantily and show off a lot of skin?! That was... not something she was willing to do. At least, not for a first time visit. And she was pretty sure that a certain big brother would be quite upset if he found out. Tempting... but no thank you.

There was a deep bass beat that could be heard from outside the walls as she waited in line to enter. She wasn't familiar with all the clubs or which was the best one to attend. All she knew was that this one looked like it was busy which had to mean it was good, right?

The only reason she had braved this new venture in the first place was for school anyways. A challenging assignment. Experience, in person, a new modern type of art. Which.... Kodi honestly wasn't sure what fell into that category. But surely something like visiting a club would have the most modern type of music? Definitely unlikely she was going to find classical piano music here!

Finally able to enter, she was assailed by the increase of volume. It was definitely busy and there was a dance floor out in the center, from what she could glimpse through the bodies. And somewhere - she couldn't see from her vantage point - the DJ's were working their magic. That's what she wanted to see! With some effort, Kodi started to maneuver her way to get a better view (and feel) for the club itself.

She was happy to be getting more gigs as a front runner rather than the opening or closing act and this gig was proving to be a really good one. The opener had been a friend of hers and their music was a good easy opening to her stuff. Most of what she ran through was happy and bubbly but she knew how to throw in stuff for the people who liked harder beats.

One of those was playing currently as she was keeping taps on the tables and all of her sound equipment. A few shifts here and there to match the crowd meant a much better response and sometimes a better twist to one of her usual songs.

She'd ramped up her outfit for the night too. She'd dyed her hair a bright mass of pink, purple, blue and some black giving everything a twilight feel and she'd pinned it up into a rather messy bun jut to keep it out of her face. A pair of ripped up skinny jeans, her favorite converse, tshirt and blazer topped off everything nicely too.

Kaydence is gender fluid, and dressed more masculine currently. Just as an fyi XD

Not really having known what to expect, Kodi had to admit the the atmosphere inside was pretty tangible. It was enjoyable and one couldn't help feeling the beat of the music take hold of you and make you move a little with it. She wasn't quite brave enough to go out and dance, but she managed to find a seat at a table with a few other occupants that didn't mind her sharing.

Turning her attention to where the magic of music was coming from, she watched in fascination. Though from her vantage point, it didn't seem like there was much that happened, but every now and then the guy in control would move here and there and the music seemed to... change. Adapt, even, to the crowd.

Kodi took in the appearance of the... boy? Man? Young man, at the DJ booth. She was pretty sure she could find him again once finished. There was a passion for what they did. He'd be perfect to talk to!

But until then.... she let her gaze wonder to the crowd, and how they reacted. Studied them. Watched how the music drew them in, made them move, how those around them would match that movement. It was.... interesting. And fun.

Her set lasted for a couple hours and she was glad, in a way, that it was coming to an end. The standard crew running the sound stage would be playing her stuff the rest of the night but after her 'show' and the peek hours at the club started to wind down she was free to wander around and she was looking forward to that.

As her last show song faded back the announcer let everyone know who she was again, thanked her for making the crowd move, and she slipped off stage to the sound of applause and scrams for more. She gave the crew hugs, thanking them for making everything easy and after chatting with one of the bouncers for a moment slipped over to the bar to get something to drink.

She deserved it after all that and the club had promised her not only all the water bottles she wanted but free drinks for the night. Of course people recognized her but mostly they just told her how awesome she was and let her go on her way.

Perks of being good but not famous.

She was, like many others it appeared, sad to have the announcer appear as the signal for the end of the show. Though a bit louder than what she usually listened to, Kodi had enjoyed it more than she thought. Which was all things she was taking note of. She'd even talked with the three she'd shared the table with, asking how they'd felt and a few questions for her research.

But now, it seemed everyone was milling about as music picked up but it just wasn't quite the same as having a live DJ manipulate and tweak it into their own magic.

However... it did mean that said DJ was no longer preoccupied with working. And if she could find him again... Kodi glanced around, hoping to spot him. It wasn't easy in a crowd like this. And you'd think with the bright colors of his hair it would be easy. But no.

Maneuvering around the club a little, she was almost afraid she'd completely missed him and thus wouldn't get that insider point of view... and there he was! Score! She made her way towards the DJ.

"Ah, pardon me for intruding but totally wanted to say that was an awesome show!" She said by way of greeting. "And I have to admit, I'm usually not one for the club scene... but you totally had me mesmerized. How the heck do you do some of those cool sounds so effortlessly?"

She was part way through a bottle of water when she caught sight of someone out of the corner of her eye who started talking. Trying not to choke on the water she laughed softly as the, apparently, new fan gushed a little bit.

"Thanks. I'm glad you liked the show." She smiled, turning so she could properly see the lady who was speaking to her. The woman did look like she wasn't usually in a place like this but it was always nice to see people getting out and enjoying new things.

Everyone should enjoy music as far as she was concerned.

"It's a lot of practice, a lot a lot. And a bit of learning how to read a crowd."

Kodi was too excited to have the chance to talk with the DJ that she couldn't even feel properly embarrassed by just jumping into conversation with a stranger. But it was her gift. She liked to socialize. And meet new people.

"I really did enjoy it." She smiled again. "Oh man, I bet it does take a lot of practice. I mean, you've got the whole technical aspect, the music itself, and the crowd." She tilted her head a little thinking on that. "You definitely did a fantastic job reading the crowd tonight." Because yes, she had been observing them too.

Finally seeming to remember some of her manners, "Ah, forgive me! I'm sorry to just start chatting you up without introducing myself. I'm Kodi. I'm actually a DCU student working on an assignment. Studying Music Therapy. And, well, I was challenged with finding a new style of music I've not heard." Something she felt she succeeded in. "Would I be too much of a bother if I asked... or begged... to toss some questions at you? I have to write a paper on what I experienced and learned." She added a little sheepishly.

"Years of being on both ends of the music." She laughed, twisting the cap back onto her water so she didn't end up spilling it on herself or someone else.

"Kasey," She held a hand out for Kodi since they were introducing themselves and she'd always thought that was the proper way to do it. Nothing like a good handshake. Not that she was any good at telling someone's intentions by their handshake but she tried. Gold star tried.

"If you wanna ask me questions we should find a table. Easier to talk than trying to stand around the bar and getting in people's ways." She motioned for Kodi to follow her. Given that she was the front runner of the show she could get back into the VIP section where it would be a little quieter and she headed that way. "Music therapy huh? Never heard of that but it sounds neat."

Kodi nodded in understanding to that. It would have been difficult, she imagined, if you hadn't experienced something of the same yourself and tried to learn how to give the crowd what they wanted. She was impressed with this guy... Kasey.

She reached out and shook the hand offered, not the type to squeeze or play games of strength testing. Just a simple, if firm, grip.

"I can agree with that." She laughed, having stepped out of the way of another person wanting to order a drink. Nodding at Kasey, she followed after him, moving with a little more ease through the throng of people then when she'd first arrived.

"It is! Seeing as you know how to read and please a crowd, you'd appreciate the study of it. It's been found that music can help those in pain - of one sort or another - find a way to relax their minds and enjoy moments of peace." She happily prattled, clearly one who enjoyed what she studied. "I just read, too, that they recently started to test music therapy and its effects on those with dementia and other disabling diseases. It really is amazing!" Kodi paused, and then said apologetically, "Ah ha, sorry if I babble."

"No no, its fine." She smiled, nodding to the VIP bouncer who let them in. She found a table and nudged a chair out for Kodi before sitting down herself. "I'm usually the one babbling so it's good to be on the other side of it for once."

The idea of the therapy did sound interesting. She could see how it worked out given how much she enjoyed listing to certain things depending on how she felt.

"So someone's actually listening to all the monks and yoga people who say music soothes the savage beast? I mean I'm sure it's more detailed than that but same point? I know first hand music is good at bringing out emotions and emotional states in people."

Kodi grinned. "Well, that's a relief. I've been known to get quite into what I'm passionate about. But thanks." It was nice having the chance to talk with someone that loved music.

She had to laugh at that, nodding as she took a seat. "It would appear so! They clearly were on to something but alas, no one took them seriously until now." Considering it, she nodded again. "That's essentially the idea of it. And yes, it does wonders for bringing out emotions. It's part of what drew me to studying it in the first place. People just... change. They show more of their true selves when listening to music." Kodi paused. "Well, from what I've seen, it does have to be certain music that means something to that individual for the real magic to work."

Feeling her cheeks light up a little, she gave Kasey an apologetic look. "Annnd... I'm babbling again." What had she come for again? Oh, right. "What about you? How does the music make you feel?"

"Depends on the music, like you said. This kind of stuff," She waved a hand to mean the music playing in the club. "Usually makes me feel happy and energized. That's why I like working with it. The right sort of classical music is really good for relaxing though. And everyone likes catchy pop tunes."

She had a weakness for them sometimes and had remixed a few for nights when she was playing to certain kinds of crowds. The college kids usually liked that

"Oh, and everyone loves country music when they've just gone though a break up. Best music for it." She grinned.

She made a few notes on her phone, hoping Kasey wouldn't be offended. But it was a true enough answer and Kodi one hundred percent agreed with it. "It's true. Everyone does like a catchy little pop tune now and then." She certainly did!

"I have to admit, for me, listening to music with lyrics or someone belting out their heart in some form of vocals is... distracting. You end up focusing so much on what they are saying and it doesn't really allow you to step away from reality. You get sucked in to whatever depressing thing the writer was singing about." But that didn't mean she disliked that type of music! To her, that was more the fun type of music. Not the kind that made you really listen.

The last comment had her laughing. "Oh my gosh, it's so true!" Who wouldn't want to hear someone singing exactly what they felt after a break up? No wonder the country singers did so well. And why they seemed the popular choice for such an occasion. "I will modify my first admittance. There is no power greater then country music for the heart broken soul."

"Sometimes though the lyrics are the best part. Sure the sound is good and can take you away but good lyrics that really speak to you? Those are amazing." Most of the music she listened to at home, when she wasn't working, had lyrics. "Given that I work with stuff that usually doesn't have it I guess I appreciate someone telling me what the music is about a bit more."

Not having to tell the story herself was nice, relaxing in a way.

Kodi gave a thoughtful nod in agreement. "Its true. There definitely are some lyrics that really touch the soul. But I guess it goes right back to one's preference in music, huh?" She grinned, crossing her arms on the table.

That was an interesting thought. What did those who created the music think? Maybe that would be a good paper to write next time! Certainly, if there was a song that really touched a lot of people, the artists would share the inspirations. But what if they could create beautiful music yet not really appreciate it the same? More food for thought. Later.

"I guess that just means you need to run into someone like me more often." She laughed. "Who will talk your ear off and tell you it sounded amazing and enchanting." Which it had been.

She gave Kasey a curious look. "What about yourself? Do you ever go out to listen to what you enjoy most? Or just work your DJ magic?"
