Amai watched as her mother instructed a group of students. She’d come to know all of them pretty well, they were nice people, even if some of them seemed to be really bad at magic. She was trying to teach them a wind spell, but at the moment most of them could barely summon a breeze. Amai thought it was funny. She had asked her mother once why she taught magic that was meant for fighting and her mother had been quiet for a while before answering. “To protect people that need protecting!” Was what she had finally responded with.
It was from that moment that Amai decided that she wanted to do that, too. Protect people. It was what had drawn her to Fleur after their initial meeting- Fleur needed protecting, and Amai could provide it. A little bit. Maybe. She wasn’t sure anymore, she had messed up with Fleur pretty badly… But when she told her mother about what had happened, her mother reassured her that she had done the right thing. Amai had since decided that doing the Right Thing was very hard. It had potentially cost her a very good friend.
She’d abided by Fleur’s wishes and hadn’t gotten up in her space since the incident. She still waved, or said hello in passing, but Fleur didn’t seem to want to respond at all. She kept an eye out- just in case the bullies started to get aggressive again… but Fleur was either very good at hiding that she was being picked on, or they’d backed off. Oh, she wanted to be able to talk to her friend again… She was going to have to ask her mother for advice.
