.................................................................................... Ћ ɪ ω α _________CHARACTER INFO
name: Hiwa (alert)
race: Geian
gender: Male
preference: any
traits:
nosy ‘Curious’ doesn’t begin to describe it. Hiwa wants to know everything about everything -- and that really does mean everything. Equally determined to be in the know about everything from grand discoveries to the neighbourhood gossip, Hiwa soaks up every word of his family’s daily newspaper (along with any others he can get his hands on). The goings-on of the world are just plain fascinating to him, and he doesn’t want to miss out any details that may yet turn out to be important.
swashbuckling He’s a bit of a dreamer, sure, but don’t go calling him a bookworm! This kid had has his head filled up with the daring tales of adventure, either published in installments at the back of the paper or sold in slender little books at the corner shop. His favourites are the kind written by real-life explorers themselves, especially the daring and handsome sorts. Everyone says that the tales are always a little exaggerated, but that doesn’t stop Hiwa from dreaming up ones in which he plays the starring role. Maybe one day he will!
wry His family is in the business of word-making, and Hiwa sure knows how to use them. It didn’t take him long to figure out his special strength in the schoolyard. Other kids might bully with muscles and money, but Hiwa flung insults practically sharp enough to draw blood. He’s the king of sarcasm, with a rapier wit and maybe a soft spot for a good pun or two. In any case, folks are best advised to watch their attitudes around him. Nicknames he gives out tend to stick… especially the less-than-flattering ones.
history:
childhood & family Hiwa’s family has long served in the Sector of Community. They weren’t always as big a deal as they are these days -- but they must have been destined for the job. When Hiwa’s great-grandfather was just a prentice, he started a bi-weekly humour publication out of his small farming hamlet near Thelle. All it was was a hand-printed page, usually with a crudely humorous cartoon taking center stage. Over the next few generations, this childish start grew into the Hafelle Messenger, the foremost newspaper in the region. The Messenger prints everything from current corn prices to the latest innovations and gossip about the lives of the rich and famous, and all of Hiwa’s clan helps out in some way.
These days, the family is large and prosperous enough to have it’s own elaborate hierarchy, with those closer to the current head of the family typically having the best jobs. Hiwa’s immediate family is admittedly low on the totem pole, and deal mostly with the meticulous task of setting type for the daily printing runs. Hiwa’s assignment is to clean the ink off the type blocks and put them away after they’ve been used. It’s not the job he’d have picked out for himself… but it’s got it’s charms, and some special benefits.
