Beacon Academy uses the Emerald Forest as the location for its initiation. The forest is filled with dangerous wildlife. This wildlife mostly includes the various species of Grimm, ranging from Creeps to Nevermore. This forest is full of ruins, dilapidated structures, and various caves. As the forest has been mostly left alone, with the exception of initiation, the forest also contains very dangerous Grimm that are stronger than most others. As such, it is not out of the question that some students find themselves in life-threatening situations in the forest.

Students are catapulted into the forest from Beacon Cliff, on purpose-built launch pads emblazoned with the academy's insignia.

Yep, didn't get any sleep last night. Elliot thought to himself as he looked out over the forest, the ground being obscured by the thousands of trees in the distance. Him and countless other students were standing on top of a cliff that rested over the Emerald Forest, waiting for the start of their initiation. Ozpin had asked them to stand on these weird contraptions on the ground, something that slightly worried Elliot the more he examined the device. "Well, at least I ate a proper breakfast before I got here. Still, I kinda wish I'd prepared myself a bit more." Elliot thought to himself as he examined the two gauntlets on his hands. Verum Naturae, a declaration of how he wanted to live his life. Always be true to yourself... right mom? He thought to himself, thinking way back to before he had met his current mother. He had this, and he was going to show everyone here that he had what it takes to become a Huntsman. He was going to outshine every last one of them and take the top spot of whatever kind of initiation this was going to be!

After a few moments of observing the students, Professor Ozpin simply walked towards the middle of the group, standing in front of one Opal Lilla and one Carmine Hervor. Giving them a reassuring smile, he turned to the group and spoke. "Now, everyone, I'm sure you're wondering what you're doing on this cliff. Well, here we will begin your initiation into the academy. I will only say this once, so please listen carefully to these instructions." Ozpin began before clearing his throat, making sure everyone was at attention. "You will enter the Emerald Forest below and locate the temple hidden within it. Your mission is to obtain one of the artifacts within this temple and bring it back here. The Emerald Forest is full of many grimm, both young and old. I, however, believe you are all fully capable of dealing with whatever the forest has to throw at you. After all, you all are fine Huntsmen and Huntresses in the making."Ozpin stated, giving everyone a bit of reassurance before continuing. "And one more thing. While your teams will be decided by how you complete this trial, know that the first person you lock eyes with will be a part of your team no matter what. As such, they will be your partner as you take on this mission." Ozpin stated rather matter-of-factually. "Now, it's about time that we began the ceremony. Everyone, brace yourselves, as you will now be launched into the forest by your designated launch pads. I'm sure you all have the landing covered." Ozpin mentioned, backing up a little as he announced the beginning of their trial. As he backed away, he turned to Noir Alcott and gave him a reassuring smile. Ozpin knew of his abilities, and he knew it might be extra difficult for him to keep them under wraps while traversing this terrain.

Elliot had been listening to Ozpin very intently up until the point that he had mentioned how they would be entering the forest. Launch pads!? Elliot thought, surprise overtaking him slightly. He braced himself, and just in time too, as the pad below him suddenly sprang forth and sent him flying through the air. "This.... is.... AWESOME!!!!!" Elliot shouted, letting out a yell of excitement as the flew through the air along with the other students. Was the initiation ceremony always supposed to be this exciting? Elliot observed the other students falling around him, watching them and wondering which one of them would land nearby for him to group up with. Or maybe I should lone-wolf this! How great would it be for me to show up at the end of it without a partner. I bet everyone'd be in a panic trying to figure out how to form a team. Elliot thought to himself, mischievous thoughts suddenly flooding his mind as he thought of ways to antagonize his mother. Then again, they might have countermeasures against such things, which would be unfortunate.

As the forest got closer, Elliot finally began decided it was best to try and manage a landing instead of considering the best ways to mess up the ceremony. Twisting in midair and flipping himself upside down, he used his outstretched arms to catch a tree limb. From there, he used the momentum of his body moving to spin himself on the tree like a gymnast before propelling himself towards the other trees and such. Now a hope and a skip! He thought to himself as he used the trees as stepping stones to reach the ground. And with a "thud" and a roll, he stuck his landing like a madman. "Woo. Hope the others managed to land okay. I know a few people weren't prepared for that launch." Elliot thought to himself and laughed a little bit. The sound of a growl, however, caused him to turn around. "Oh? Guess I got a little company, huh?" He mentioned as he watched some Beowolves emerge from the brushes. They began to growl and circle him. "I gotta say, you guys have some poor decision-making skills. I may look like small, easy prey... but I'm battle ready!" Elliot stated, smashing his gauntlets together, the mechanism inside of them pulling back and smashing together to create a loud noise.

As one of the Beowolves rushed Elliot, the young man simply moved forward quickly and uppercutted the creature. "I hope you're ready for the beat down." He stated, smirking as he came by with the other arm, punching it in the gut and activating the mechanism in the gauntlet. The creature, taking a jackhammer to the stomach, flew backwards and into a tree, cracking the bark from the impact. "Let's see wha'tcha got!" Elliot stated moving towards another Beowulf and deflected its attacks, batting them to the sides. "I thought you guys wanted to take me on. Gotta do better." He stated, swatting its attacks to the side without much thought. "Opening!" He practically shouted and socked the thing right in the muzzle, stunning it. Another one had approached him from behind in this time to attack him. The young man, however, simply did a backflip and smashed its head into the ground from the landing with a kick. "Dang, alright. This is getting a bit dangerous." He stated, pulling his arm back to activate the mechanism in his gauntlet before going to town on the one he socked in the face. After a good five-hit combo he sent it tumbling backwards, defeated. "Two more, huh?"

Elliot began to move back and forth a little bit as he observed the last two. Finally, he dashed forward, holding his arms in front of him in a boxing-type style. "I'll give you guys a lesson my sis taught me." He stated, moving in and punching one claw out of the way while kicking the leg out from the other Beowulf. "Never!" He began, ducking a claw and striking the one not on the ground in the rib cage. "Ever!" He continued, planting his foot on the grounded ones face and launching himself onto the back of the other Beowulf. "touch the hair!" Elliot stated, using his weight to pull the Beowulf backwards before rolling on the ground and propelling it through the air. In the same movement, he took one step forward and punched the last on in the face, activating the mechanism and crushing its head from the impact. Standing there, panting, he simply stared at the aftermath for a few seconds before realizing one thing. "Yeah... that doesn't really make much sense in this context. But that's how I learned that move." He explained to his slowly disintegrating foes.

CRIMSON ARMATO
-Student-
--Beacon Academy--
~The Heiress to Nihility and Hyperbole~

She stood with her arms crossed, giving small uneasy and a bit nervous creaks in her suit of armour. Her sword in it's sheath on her back. And as Oz stepped back, she gulped, she still had not talked to any of the others and avoided a few who looked, unbecoming. However she did look over to the darker gent. Noir. Her eyes shifting forward again. "This is so silly and ridiculous, launching us what are we boulde--... " she said under her breath as suddenly the pad launched her up into the air. Instantly kicking her feet out so her feet were going first, pulling her sword and holding it upward flat to the wind to catch her. She wanted to be down fast.

And fast it did, while many continued on outward, she dropped lost her speed and dropped like a heavy armored led weight to the ground. Aiming for a gap between some trees she gave a heavy side swing around and spiraled herself corkscrewing to the gap. As she passed through her sword cut at the branches and leaves. Her feet hitting and making a spiraling crouch into the ground and landing on an armour clad knee planting her sword with the loud crunch.

A thin red veil was wrapped around her and she let out her breath finally, huffing some as the veil around her faded. As it did she winced hissing some holding her calve some. "Ahh... too fast... far too fast.... okay... " She stood and flipped her hair, before sliding her sword into it's sheath and looking up at the wider opening she created as she scanned the trees on all sides of her. Trees.... trees.... trees.... "Which way..." Her eyes bolted side to side now realizing in her corkscrew landing she didn't know which direction to go.

Taking in a big breath before crossing her arms infront of her chest and walking in the direction she could only hope was proper. In the distance she could hear a bit of growing and roaring.

β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–± Carmine was extremely giddy. Fully outfitted in her light armor with Tyrfing in her right hand, Flinta strapped to her left arm, and Skolda in its sheath, she was all ready to go for whatever they planned on throwing at her. Despite her excitement, she was lucky to get enough sleep to feel rested. It was definitely difficult to keep still on this plate, the anticipation had her nearly jumping in place. Not quite clear on what the thing was, Carmine didn't question it as everyone was instructed to stand on one. Unfortunately, Elliot was someways down the line from her, but at least her and Opal were next to each other! At the thought, the white-haired warrior shot a smile over to her new friend. The plan was still to work together for the possibility of getting paired up. As Ozpin walked toward the middle of the line, Carmine was able to settle down enough to hear him speak. When the professor smiled at the two of them, it took everything she had to simply grin back rather than allow whatever shrill noise that wanted to escape. He was a celebrity in her eyes, after all.

Alright, I've really got to pay attention here. It won't matter how well I do against the grimm if I can't complete the objective. She wasn't bad with instructions, but if she didn't focus, there'd certainly be something missed. Okay, return an artifact back here from the temple in the forest. Simple enough. At the mention of partners, Carmine's eyes widened slightly before glancing over to Opal. That's our ticket, then, she thought inwardly though the statement was technically directed toward the faunus herself. Although it was a little strange that they'd leave something so important up to chance. Did they believe that fervently in fate or was this simply to ease the strain of the selection process?

Launch pads? "That's too cool!" The gushing was meant to be thought rather than said, but it took Carmine by such surprise she had to blurt it out. A click from underneath her was sufficient enough to prepare herself. There was no point in hiding the smile that spread across her face as she pulled her arms in right before being shot into the sky. Between the wind and her own excited laughter, she could barely hear Elliot's exclamation. The plan was to find Opal as quickly as possible and then complete the objective, though she had no qualms if the first person she paired up with was Elliot or Noir. Well, no major qualms. If she really did want to get teamed up with her cute-eared companion, though, it'd be important to keep an eye on where about she'd be landing. I should probably be worried about how I'm going to get down, too. The trees are getting closer. Her smiled widened.

"One!" Carmine had positioned her shield in front of her and pulled the trigger on her shield; the force that would normally propel her a few feet helped act against her forward momentum. She waited for the familiar click of the barrels switching over. "Two!" Again the same. Only two left, and one would be needed in case she immediately ran into any resistance as soon as she landed. This new speed was fine. The trees seemed to swallow her, and as Carmine neared the floor of the forest, timing became key. Flipping midair, the girl kept her shield in front of her before using it as a springboard. A loud crack resonated off the ground. "Three!" Momentarily propelled upward from the shot, Carmine straightened her body before her feet hit the ground. Her giggling could probably be heard by anyone or anything nearby as she rolled to a stop. With one knee on the ground, she took a defensive position to confirm there was nothing nearby before standing. "Aright, let's find Opal." They were essentially launched from the same position. It shouldn't be hard.

"I'll protect everyone including you. Nothing is going to get in the way of that, not even me." β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°β–±β–°

Last night was... a little strange. Mauve was obviously on the guy's side 'cause that's where he belonged, but his fellow men weren't buying it. That sort of thing was half the fun, but difficult to manage when wanting to sleep. The young man yawned, stretching up an axe-wielding arm into the air. Oh man, I didn't get enough sleep at all. This is going to be rough. The worst part was that he hadn't gotten to speak with anyone in-depth that night. Day one and no friends, how upsetting. The only person he had spoken to was some guy telling him he was on the wrong side of the sleeping arrangements. Now he was standing next to a pink-haired girl who looked a little familiar from last night. Oh, right! She was pretty grumbly in the ballroom, wasn't she? At the time, he'd consider using his semblance on her to help calm her down from whatever was bugging her, but another guy had approached her, and Mauve had assumed to help, so let it be.

Keeping on his platform, the young man listened to the headmaster of the school. There were all sorts in this line, some obviously used to combat, some maybe not so much. Seemed like one girl was so excited she was ready to jump off the cliff herself. Mauve smiled. He supposed it was difficult not to feel that way. Professor Ozpin explained their goals and how this was going to play out. From the instructions, everything sounded simple enough. Spinning his hand axes, he prepared himself for launch. Well, as much as he could prepare himself for launch. This was the fastest he'd ever been sent through the air. Over the whistling of the wind, other students could easily be heard shouting, laughing, or screaming. Jeez, this is quite the crowd! He had to admit, despite being literally thrown off a cliff to their splat-tastic deaths, this was pretty fun!

The branches were getting closer which meant this was Mauve got off this crazy ride. Raising both hands into the air, he caught hold of a thicker branch with the bottom of his ax blades. Kicking out both his feet, he swung around the branch a time and switched to another branch before rotating around that one. There was barely a sound when he landed, maybe the swish of a few leaves. "And the crowd goes wild!" he whispered loudly, holding both weapons in the air. Normally, this would be when he asked his siblings, the judges, their scores. It's unanimous! Tens all around! Mauve Ackles is without-a-doubt our champion! Mauve! Mauve! Mauve! Ahhhhh~! "Heheheh, I miss 'em already." With one final spin, Uriel was put back into Mauve's belt, and he began strolling through the Emerald Forrest. He put little tack marks in the barks of trees, hoping to make things easier on either his future partner or himself.

                                  • spaceOpal stood at attention, javelin held neatly at her side and running the length of her body. She had it minimized at the moment and was only three feet long as it was. It would extend out three feet at most if she wanted, though. Her face was like stone as she looked out along the forest. She was soldier-like in this moment. Partially, she was trying to mask her excitement and readiness. Another part of her wanted to look uninviting to avoid anyone wanting to team up with her. She stood on the metal plate with slight unease. Why were these here, just... in the ground? She could only assume it had to do with the day's trial. Her stone exterior only broke when she caught eyes with Carmine, the other girl offering a smile. Opal smile back warmly. She was confident that they would find each other; she felt it in her bones. The redhead wanted to reach out, or say something, but Ozpin started to walk along the cliff side in front of the students.

spaceWhen he stopped in the middle of the group, directly in front of Carmine and herself, Opal steeled herself. He gave them a generous smile before starting his speech. The man spoke calmly and candidly, like what he was saying was practiced. Hell, she wouldn't be surprised if he said the same things every year. The faunus watched him thoughtfully. At the mention of partners and looking them in the eye, Opal turned and did just that. She gave Carmine a confident grin, making a fist and holding it at her hip, mocking what they did last night to signal their determination. Now this was getting exciting. At the next part, though, Opal was taken back slightly. Launched? When she heard Carmine's exclamation, Opal couldn't help but chuckle some, 'Cuuuute~. Quickly, she pressed the button on her javelin, shifting the weapon to its gauntlet form. She watched her soon-to-be partner get launched into the air, prepared herself, then was similarly launched as well.

spaceThe faunus stayed head first for a little while before leaning back, slowing down, and flipping herself onto her back so she was flying through the air feet first. Her eyes scanned the air and she saw Carmine disappear into the trees. Opal would wind up a little further than her friend. As she approached the forest, the faunus broke through the trees with her feet. Arms protecting her face, she was engulfed in the foliage, peeking between the crack in her arms so she could see, "Okay, Andraste, its show time." She craned her left arm back as she approached a rather large tree and slammed her fist into it. The gravity dust she was using helped to slow her down a decent amount. The second tree she hit slowed her down even more. She slammed the button on her gauntlet and, now approaching the ground at a steady pace, stuck her javelin in the ground. While she stopped dead in her tracks, she used the momentum to swing around her pole and vault about ten feet ahead of her weapon. The redhead landed flawlessly and wasted no time. She turned on her heel and ran back to her javelin, still sticking straight up out of the ground.

space"Okay. That was a thing... now to find Carmine." Opal resolved herself, ripped Andraste out of the ground, and started running back towards where she thought Carmine would be. Unfortunately, a loud roar and two slams on the ground would put a pause to Opal's plans. Quickly, she rolled out of the way as an Ursa broke out of the treeline, 'Well this is just great. Right off the bat...' From her position knelt down on the ground, Opal almost felt like using her semblance, but decided it wasn't necessary. She jumped up and avoided another swipe from the Ursa. It wasn't too big, luckily. The huntress-in-training ran from the position and watched its movements. Erratic. It wasn't too smart, so it mustn't have been too old. Another lucky draw. As the Ursa ran at her again, Opal ran at it too, but she slid underneath of it at the last second and avoided its attempt to grab her. She jumped up onto its back and swiftly drove the pointed spear into the back of the beast's neck. It fought harder for just a second before stopping moving altogether, then it collapsed to the ground.

spaceStill standing on the Ursa's back, Opal clicked the button on her javelin, and soon it secured to her wrist in its gauntlet form. She clicked through a few dust vials on the large wrist of her gauntlet. Burn and water; steam would be easier to use for escape than it would be to fight all the other Grimm lurking in this forest. As the Ursa beneath her started to scatter away, Opal hopped off and watched it for a moment. A look of disgust was on her face. They truly were awful creatures. After mulling over it for a moment, the redhead took off running again, ears trained and twitching around as she listened for any noises around her, 'One down, who knows how many to go. As long as I find Carmine...'

Noir Alcott

Noir followed the group after being able to sleep last night after meeting and helping out Crim who is very odd. Crim seems to be interested into power and skill which his dad did warn him about due to all kinds of people becomes huntsman and huntresses for a reason. But he followed everyone, waving to the group he met earlier, ate breakfast, then to be at the hill side where the forest is. "Wait.....FOREST!!, YES, YES, YES!!!!" He shouted in his mind happily due to this is what he is used to all of his life, he feels more relaxed but then started to wonder about the metal plates he is standing on.

He heard Oz talking about the forest , making Noir more excited every second until he heard about launch pads, "Launch pads? What are launch pa-AAAAAHHH!!!!!!" Unfortunantely, the question was cut short as he was launched right into the air going straight to the forest, Thinking and panicking at the same time he formed a plan, "Ok, ok, this is bad. Remember your training, what would dad do?" "Now son, if you are launched into the air or falling from a ridiculous height, always remember to use what is on hand and items around you." "Dad, this situation is weird, how can I safely........I GOT IT!!" Acting quickly, he pulled his sword out of its scabbard with his right hand, switched it to his left hand and then slammed it right into a trunk of a tree and started to spin downward from the trunk all the way to ground level and having to do a roll to finish his decent. He put his sword away and looked behind him to look at the tree to say, "Sorry tree, I just didn't want to die." Then he began his first quest to find a partner and complete the mission.

However, he didn't walk too long to be able to feel he has been surrounded, he activated his Armor Transformation and went into stance with his sword in his right hand. Five beowulfs came out of the bushes making Noir think there are more in the surrounding area so he had to escape while he has a chance. "Well, this is a surprise, you all came to get me. then, COME AT ME!!" With a growl, the beowulfs began their attacks, however the first one losing its arm in the process while the fourth and fifth getting a hit on Noir, but they don't realize it only left themselves wide open and he activated his ability with a great shout with black energy covering his entire sword, "Darkness.........SSSLLLLLAAAASSSHHH!!!!" With a Horizontal strike, he cut them down, some trees, and destroyed the bushes that were hiding a few unknowns. He took this chance to run for if he used his other ability before he joins a team, he could be in danger as well as his father. He looks at his Pendant as he runs in a random direction to get away from the grimm, to remember what happened to his mom and to make sure it never happens again to anyone else no matter what.

Hildr looked at the ground, stepping onto the contraption that she was stilled trying to work out. Getting her feet comfortable she looked across the line of other students, none of them she had even met yet. There were quite a few people she would have to get to know through out her first semester, some of them even looked quite excited. Why are these just out in the middle of the grass? she asked herself. The moment Professor Ozpin appeared and walked past them all she straightened her back and listened intently, this was a man she believed in, perhaps he was even half the reason she came to Beacon. Herja was behind her waist, folded up and shorter, resembling an assault rifle mostly. It was mostly for ease of carrying however, even in this form it could only fire a single bullet at a time, and not as accurately either, best for up close and desperate measures. Ozpin quickly cut to the chase, stating that they would be launched into the forest where they would have to hunt down and collect an artefact. Okay, not too difficult she thought, then taking in the part where the first person she meets eyes with will be here partner. She then swallowed, looking out across the line of students again But- which one?! she thought to herself, but she shook her head and stared onward, to the forest, hearing the launch pads farther away begin to let loose. I've got this she thought to herself, narrowing her eyebrows, as if staring down the cliff's edge. With a quick sideways nod to herself, Hildr reminded herself should be easy - flying through the air, land feet first. Not much different to practise with Mum. She could hear the launch pads releasing closer and close, and Hildr used that as a signal. Reaching back she grabbed Herja, and clicked the mechanism to release. It's length began to grow and shift, it's blades releases and uncovering the unfolding dust clips near the tip. With a small gesture it loaded it's barrel upon completion into a spear and Hildr got into stance. Herja was a very long black and gold spear that accents of dull blue, and was heavily decorated with golden-bronze swirls near the blades edge. Along it's length were various parts for the dust clip, the trigger and so on, and at the bottom was the barrel, and just off centre was a smaller blade that she could use to stab. The plate beneath her clicked, and she prepared herself as she suddenly felt the force push through her body and launch her sky high.

The valkyrie felt like she was flying, she felt the wind through her hair and the weightlessness that came with it. She watched as the trees beneath her began to start getting close, signalling her approach downwards as gravity grabbed her. She bit her lip and pulled a trigger on her spear, it prepared a crystal of green air dust that would explode on impact. With another trigger she threw Herja down into the canopy beneath her, the recoil sent it flying down ahead of her. She waited a moment before covering her face with her arms crossed like a shield. Another moment past and just as she was about to break through the canopy she heard the impact of Herja and suddenly a burst of wind exploded from the canopy, sending leaves scattering around her as he fall was slowed by the backwards gust of energy. As the wind vanished she fell through the canopy and landed firmly on the ground with on knee and hand down. Hildr took out a breath and looked up, Herja was sticking out of the ground. As she was about to reach for it she could hear the sound of twigs breaking behind her, and then the distinct sound of growling grimm. Hildr sighed again, "already?" she asked herself, reaching forwards for the spear. She tilted her head, listening to the thumb of something moving behind her, listening to the pitch of the growl. Ursa, she knew, but she also heard leaves parting, and others.

Hildr moved quickly, pulling her spear back and throwing it directly behind her as she stood. The bottom end of it stuck it's knife-like tip into the Ursa's chest and it gave out a grown. As she turned she saw two beowolves at it's side and had to think fast, it was unlucky for her to be against these two at the same time as an ursa. But she'll have to get past this, otherwise she'll never get to live her dream. "For grandmother" she said, pushed forwards into a jog, then into a fast run and with a warcry she jumped into the air, latching a hold of her spear in the ursa's chest. She tried to use her weight to pull the Ursa to the side a little and when she had it in position she pulled the trigger, unloading a bullet into the Ursa' chest as she was launched off of it. Herja's tip struck one of the beowolves behind her. The other beowolf came in for an attack from behind and she dodged, rolling to the side and landing on one knee, spear pointing beside her. As the beowolves came for her she jumped up again, lifting her spear as high as she could before pulling the trigger, the recoil forcing Herja downwards, and her along with it, for a powerful stabbing strike. As her attack landed she threw her legs up and to the side to deliver a kick to the other one. Following through with that motion she pulled her spear from the first one, knowing it had to be defeated now. As it began to retreat she spun her spear and it shifted into sniper rifle mode, resting it against her chest so looked down the sight unloaded an Ice dust bullet. It collided and froze the grimm's leg to the ground, letting out a small howl as it tried to move. "Gotta stop that thing from howling" she told herself, not wanting more grim arriving. But then the Ursa was recovering, coming to stand with a wound of fading red coming from it's chest. Hildr took in a breath. She charged forwards and ducked beneath the Ursa's swiping claws. Skidding across the floor she slashed once at the immobile beowolf and silenced it. Putting her hand on the ground she spun to a stop, facing the Ursa as it came down strike her into the ground and squash her like a bug. But she thrust her spear upwards, blasting through it's attack. With the recoil of Herja she had some air above it, and quickly pulled the trigger again to be sent down on it's head. She pulled the trigger again, thrusting the spear further down, then again, and again, until the Ursa let out it's last growl. She yanked it free and jumped off it's back as it tumbled to the ground. With a roll she landed softly and stood back up, letting out her breath.

"I've got to find someone" she said to herself, she looked ahead, then left a right, but she couldn't really hear anyone that close. "Which way as the ruin? Forwards can't be wrong." Hildr set off, running through the tree's looking for someone to come into contact with.

((okay so im hating her fighting style at the moment, give me a few posts to figure out how im gonna make it not feel clunky. But yay, im posting ^_^))

Elliot lightly brushed the dirt and dust off of his clothes as he pulled himself up onto his feet, obviously feeling pretty good about how the trial was going so far. This ain't too bad. But... I'm pretty sure if I stick around I'll be jumped by some more Grimm. Better run off while I can. He thought to himself as he turned in a direction and started dashing forward. Only four directions to go, and one of them's blocked by a cliff. I'm sure I'll end up getting there if I just keep running. He thought to himself, relying on his gut instinct to lead him through the forest. This was his natural setting, to just rush into things and let them work themselves out. By doing so, he almost always ended up accomplishing the goals he set out to do. The question was, what was the goal this time, and what should he be trying to accomplish in this forest. As he heard Grimm calling out, most likely from their encounters with the other students that had dropped into the forest, Elliot simply smirked to himself, taking note of where those howls and noises were coming from.

That smirk, however, was cleanly wiped from his face as he saw a few Grimm come out of the bushes ahead of him. Oh well. So much for avoiding conflict. He thought to himself as he just kept barreling forward. As a Beowolf turned towards him, the young man simply slid across the ground, sliding underneath the Beowolf and flashing it a rather confident smile as he quickly picked himself back up. "Hello, sorry, goodbye." He called out to it as he rushed at the next Beowolf. "Oh, and thanks for." He began, jumping into the air. "The." He continued as he planted both feet into the Beowolf's face and slammed it into the ground with quite a bit of force. "Ride!" He shouted as he began to use the Beowolf as a make-shift surfboard. "Woo-hoo. Ahahahah." Elliot exclaimed, grinding the Beowolf's face into the dirt with his heels as he the two of them began to set down a hill. "You know, I really appreciate the lift!" He stated to the Beowolf, trying to joke around a little bit as the two of them barreled down the hill before them.

Once they reached the bottom, however, the Beowolf crashed into the ground and Elliot had to fling himself forward into a roll. "That was actually pretty fun. I should try that again sometime." He thought to himself, turning towards the Grimm's remains and staring at it for a few seconds. This was quite a bit of fun for him, and he honestly did not want this trial to end anytime soon. But it's going to have to. I should probably just hurry up and find someone I know. We gotta make eye contact, right? He thought to himself as he stood up, still looking towards the bottom of the hill, and began to walk forward with his head still turned. That just means I have to avoid eye contact with anyone el- He was thinking to himself as he turned around while climbing through the bushes, stunned into silence as his eyes clearly locked onto the eyes of another, unfamiliar person. "Eh...heheh." He thought to himself, a rather half-hearted smile appearing on his face. Crap... He thought to himself as he stared at some girl holding a spear.

Hildr watched as the trees passed her quickly, each one swooshing by her. Eyes ahead she told herself, but what if she made eye contact with the wrong person, what if they didn't get along at all. She tried to shake off the thought, now running along the bottom of a hill, passing it on her left as she looked up it for a moment. Pretty quiet she thought to herself. She came to a stop as she saw what she thought might be some ruins fair ahead, but she wasn't certain. That was when something blurred by the corner of her vision, and her senses went immediately on edge. The bushes nearby quickly exploded outwards, revealing a spinning Boarbatusk, charging towards her. By instinct she slammed the bottom of her spear into the ground, releasing a shot at the same time, propelling her body into the air first, pulling her spear back afterwards. She looked down in awe as the Boarbatusk zoomed by beneath her and came to a stop a few metres off to the side. In midair she threw her spear, impaling the Grimm beast. When she landed next to it she leaped again, flipping and bringing her foot down onto the grimm's head, quickly finishing it off. Hildr was just pulling Herja from it's body as she began to hear the commotion coming from the hill. "What the-" she turned, seeing that not far off there was another student coming down the hill's edge on the back of a beowolf. Much to her amazement she watched the guy leap off and land on the ground not far from her, and then he looked up.

All the hair on the back of her neck stood up on end as she realised the implication. Without warning, her eyes became wide and in a flash she threw her spear, pulling the trigger at the same time. It burst forwards, soaring through the air and seemed to be heading straight for Elliot. But it whizzed by his face, knocking another beowolf flat out of the air and pinning it to a nearby tree. Hildr let out a sigh and shouted "sorry!!!" with a wave before jogging over to meet him. "I guess... you could have dealt with that yourself" Hildr said, attempting to make a friend and sound flattering as she pulled Herja once again back to her side.

Well, just from the fact that he did not know her, Elliot had already been a bit on edge about the prospect of being put on a team with someone he had not even communicated with before the ceremony. That opinion was only worsened when a spear suddenly flew past his head, causing the young man to instantly take a fighting pose before he heard the low grunt of a Beowulf. "What the..." He muttered to himself, sort of uneasy at the fact one of them had apparently gotten the jump on him. You cannot be perfect all the time, so Elliot just chalked it up to that and the shock of locking eyes with this random person. When he heard the girl shouting "sorry" at him, the young man turned towards her as she apparently tried to make small talk. Elliot simply stared at her for a few moments before speaking. "Not really. I mean. Maybe I coulda dealt with it. Um... thanks." He simply stated, trying to push the conversation along as well. It seemed rather awkward to him given the current situation though. Glynda did tell him to make new friends, yet he had not expected to be completely separated from his newfound friends from earlier.

"Um." He observed the woman carefully, trying to think of what to make of her. "I'm... Elliot." He began, thinking back to what the others had told him the other day about not needing to hide who he was. "Elliot Goodwitch." He added so that she knew how to refer to him in case she preferred using last names instead of the first one. "I prefer you call me Elliot Vermillion though. It's a little bit less intimidating. Most people find it hard to approach me given my situation..." He stated, casually training off into a mutter as he contemplated what else to say to the young woman. "Well, if we're on a team... I guess we should get to know each other at least some..." He continued to mutter a bit, and then he suddenly looked up at the woman. "Right. I punch things, really hard. It's kinda my thing. I punch things into trees, stomp them into the ground, and I crush them with everything I got!" He stated, giving her an apt description of his fighting style. "Also, my hobbies are riding trashcan lids, making contraptions, and generally trying to live life as best I can. Sometimes that causes trouble, sometimes it doesn't."

It was at this moment that Elliot suddenly began to act as he did when he first met the others, finally gaining a good bit of composure. "I mean, c'mon. You can't say that riding a trashcan lid through the streets isn't a fun, memorable way to live your childhood. I mean, yeah people could get hurt if you crash into them, or maybe you could get hurt, but that's the thrill of it! It's exciting, it's fun, and it makes you appreciate things a lot more. The same with the slingshot. Fun, simple shenanigans that bring a smile to people's faces!" He casually explained, trying to get his newfound teammate to see things the way that he did. "Anyway, I'm being rude as heck, huh? I introduced myself, so what's your name? Got any cool hobbies or anything like that you wanna talk about?" He asked the young woman, hoping that he could at least get to know her a little bit before they suddenly ran off to complete the trial.

This kid suddenly seemed much less... versed in conversation? At first she cheaply exhaled and said "you're welcome." Then he went on to introduce himself, and Hildr cautiously looked around, but it seemed the grimm had cleared out momentarily. At first she looked back to him at the moment he said Goodwitch. She began to say "...as in-" but he explained quickly. The whole naming thing, she got it, completely. She had never expected to befriend a Goodwitch though, it was all rather exciting if she thought about it for too long, really. Then Hildr smiled and said "Well I-" but he went on again, and she held her tongue politely. Suddenly, his guard seemed to let go and he put it all very plainly. He liked to punch, smash things up, he must be that oddball, the excitable one, the guy that would rather speak with his fists than his mouth. She listened patiently as conversation moved onto riding trashcans, and all she could think of was how he could down that hillside beside them. She came back to the conversation as he began to convince her that everything he just said really was fun. Moving onto childhood, she tried to smile but pursed her lips shut. Luckily, conversation moved on and now it was her turn.

Hildr began with a smile, saying "nice to meet you... Elliot. I'm Svalrvænn HildrhÑrr. But you can just call me Hildr." She gave him the option, knowing full well that her name can be hard to digest. "I'm from Atlas, and I uh... well. I guess you could say I throw my spear at things. Mostly Grimm, they get in the way a lot." Hildr chuckled, a bout of confidence emanating off of her as she continued. "But I have to say, I've never used a trashcan lid for... riding anywhere. And before I came to Vale I spent most of my time sparring, and helping children in the towns in the wilderness." Hildr looked down to her spear, debating whether or not to start talking about weapons. But instead she looked up and said "I think we should get on with the objective, it would be unfortunate to be the last pair to find the artefacts." Hildr ended with a smile, making light of the topic. "Do you... know which way that is, by chance?"

"Right, Hildr." Elliot stated, not even trying to remember what her full name was because it was just too complicated and difficult to say for him. It was almost instant the way he just accepted it as her actual name. After she finished introducing herself, Elliot simply stated. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Hope we end up being good friends." He stated rather cheerfully, letting out a little laugh as he smiled at the young woman. Helping kids and sparring, huh? She seems like one of those really attentive people. Hm, maybe it won't be so bad having her on my team. Seems nice enough. I wond- His thoughts were cut off midway when Hildr suddenly turned her attention back to the objective, making him fully believe she was one of those incredibly attentive people he had a hunch she was. "You're really on point, huh?" He muttered to himself, wondering why she was so worried about the artifacts. "I mean, I get that. But even if we're last we still get an artifact and a team. Rushing forward like that constantly's kind of..." He began, trailing off a little bit as he tried to make a point. He, however, gave up halfway and simply spoke. "I think it's that way."

He was pointing behind Hildr. In reality, Elliot had no idea where it was, but it was always important to start in a direction and just run forward with it. Otherwise one would not get anywhere in life. "Since you're in a rush, let's get going!" He shouted as he started dashing forward, running into the brush at top speed. Given that he was a purely physical fighter that specialized in agility, the young man was quite fast at moving. I guess the faster we finish this trial the sooner we'll be able to head back and see who our team is. She must be pretty excited to find out who the other members are if she doesn't want to be the last one there. He thought to himself as he barrelled through the forest at top speed. Eventually, however, he came to a skidding stop in front of some Grimm. "Oh... yeah. I forgot you guys were still in here." He muttered, looking at them and laughing a little bit as he tried to think of something. I guess making all that racket running through the forest wasn't the best idea either, eh? He casually thought to himself.

"Still, what is it with Beowolves today? You guys just love getting thrashed, don'tcha?" He mentioned, suddenly bending backwards as a small Beowolf went to slash his midriff. The young man then stood on his hands and pulled his legs upward, kicking the creature squarely under the jaw and knocking it up. "Time to show you sis's number one combo!" Elliot declared, continuing the movement until he had put himself back on his feet. Once planted, he burst forward at the Grimm's midair form, bashing it in the chest multiple times with quick jabs. "Five! Six! Seven! Eight! Nine! TEN!" He shouted out, finally mashing his fist so hard into its face with the final strike that the mechanism in his gauntlet triggered, smashing its face twice as hard and sending it flying through the forest at top speed. "Who's next!?" He called out to the other various Grimm, having quite a bit of confidence in his ability. The remaining Ursa, Boarbatusk, and Beowulf seemed pretty ready to fight as well. Hopefully Hildr would be able to fight with him and their fighting styles would mesh well.

"Well" Hildr began, looking around, attempting to gesture to the fact that they were in the middle of a testing ground. Luckily, however, Elliot stopped and pointed in a direction, saying that the ruins where that way. She looked over her shoulder and at first wasn't entirely sure, and wasn't convinced either. But she went with it nonetheless. She gave him a nod as he dashed away. She did her best to keep up, but she had to admit he was always going to be some paces ahead of her, he was pretty fast. When the beowolf came out of nowhere Hildr leaped from the ground and perched herself on a nearby branch above, shifting Herja into rifle mode but before she could shoot Elliot had it covered. Impressed by how quickly he could deal with the Grimm she let him have his moment, at least until the other Grimm revealed themselves. "There's so many..." Hildr muttered. "I've got the Boarbatusk!" Hildr called down from the tree, quickly looking down her scope as she watched the creature begin to roll into a ball on the spot. She pulled the trigger and an Ice Dust bullet released, attempting to catch the Boarbatusk but it just managed to rush past her shot. It began to head towards Elliot and without a second thought she leaped from the tree, scaling the space between them quickly as she pulled Herja's trigger, throwing her entire body towards the ground. She landed beside him and her cape flurried upwards as the Boarbatusk collided into her embedded spear. For a moment they clashed but not for long, as Hildr was sent flying backwards and her spear flung out in another direction, landing nearer the Ursa.

They'd been running, probably going after the same sound she'd heard earlier, an ursa's roar. As far as she knew, they didn't do such a thing for no reason, so she decided to check it out. Ursa could be pretty tough, though it only sounded like a minor. Whoever it was attacking would probably be okay. She didn't have a solid grasp on anyone's fighting capabilities, though Elliot's smashing of boulders into rubble did send chills down her spine. The sounds of the ursa stopped as Carmine neared, cementing her faith in her classmates. Pulling the dust trigger on Tyrfing, one side of the blade was completely engulfed in flames. For now, these beowolves were her problem. At her shout and firing of her shield, they'd turned only in time for the one nearest her to be slashed to ribbons by a flaming sword. The other, finding a new prey, focused in on Carmine. Her expression was much darker than it had been the at any point the day before, not that this grimm would notice the massive change in her demeanor. Find the right attack. The creature moved in to maul her but to no avail. It's weaker attacks were simply blocked or parried by either her shield or sword. When it became frustrated enough to launch a more powerful claw, Carmine took the opportunity to move in on the beast, dodging past the attack. After blocking a distressed weak attack, she smashed her shield across its face before coming in with her sword. The grating sound of her sword piecing through its mask was all too familiar. That sort of move wouldn't work with other grimm. The other they are, the stronger this bone-like plating, she thought as the beowolf deteriorated. "Now... who were you tracking?" This initiation was going to be a breeze.

Moving forward, a flash of scarlet caught her attention before she saw the one person for which she was looking emerge from a scattering of trees. The light returned to her eyes. "Opal!" Thank goodness. The young woman was still a small distance from her, so Carmine took the initiative to catch up. "I was starting to get nervous!" she admitted, scratching the back of her head with her free hand. It would've been introductions all over again if she ended up getting paired with someone she didn't even know. Not that she knew Opal much better, but Carmine found herself more comfortable with this outcome. Good thing she'd followed those grimm, though they probably wouldn't have stood a chance against Opal. How great was it that they were officially teammates? "Woohoo! I'm so glad I found you! Did you hear that ursa just now? Wait- were you the one who took it down?" It was much more difficult for the girl to control herself in the field. This was the very place she could let loose after all. She'd take her friend's response as an opportunity to reload, pulling a string of shotgun ammo from a pouch on her belt and sliding it into the opening of her shield. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of time for them to reconnect. They still had an objective to complete. Which was... a temple?
