Beacon's Ballroom is a large area that is usually used for Beacon's annual dance party. It is, however, also used for new arrivals at the academy, serving as a place for them to sleep before they face the Emerald Forest.

The students have moved from the amphitheater, looked around campus as they pleased, and made it to the ballroom before curfew ( unless they're hooligans ). Dinner was served a little while ago. Now, with full bellies, they are all congregating for the night and are getting ready for bed, socializing, or preparing however they feel fit for tomorrow's trials.

spaceOpal was busy getting her cot ready for the night. She had a simple pillow and her favorite blanket from home settled on the meager mattress. The young woman zipped up her soft, pink hoodie over her tank top, leaning back on her heels briefly before sitting down on her freshly made cot. Part of her was tired and wanted to rest for tomorrow, but a bigger part of her wanted to stay awake and gain more allies. Being here brought her down to earth, seeing all the other students in this room, all in their pajamas and so vulnerable looking. She was one of them. She was just like them. It humbled her quite a bit. She looked down at her clothes and almost felt strange being in such an outfit around other warriors in training. Opal looked to the cot beside her and smiled to Carmine, happy at least they were able to sleep near each other. The room was co-ed, but it was divided down the middle, half boys and half girls, and some on other spectrums wherever they felt comfortable. She wondered how the boys were fairing on their end and if they would venture over to them. Or maybe they should venture off and meet others themselves?

space"This is a little overwhelming, huh, Carmine? All these people in one big room? And soon we'll all be teamed off. I wonder what the trials might be like tomorrow. No matter how much research I did, I couldn't find anything about them." She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, casting her gaze across the room now. She was looking at everyone, trying to study them, guess their weapons and semblances and anything she could imagine. Any of these people could wind up being her teammate. Her partner. Her rock for the following years. She didn't particularly like living in mystery, but she supposed that's what made part of this exciting.

space"I never imagined myself actually being here. And look at me now. It's kind of nice being a part of something." A warm smile graced her face. She tightened her grip around her knees, hugging them closer to her chest. In her family, it was always fight until you get too tired, then keep fighting. Especially after her father died. She and her mother fought tooth and nail almost every day. It was exhausting. And even though she lived among the Branwen Tribe for two years, she still didn't feel like she was one of them. Now, she was at Beacon Academy. She was a part of the first year class and soon, she would be a Huntress. Her younger brother flashed into her mind and her smile grew deeper, her face flushing pink as she thought fondly of him, "I'm here for my little brother, you know. To show him that you can do anything you set your mind to. He's my motivation. So being here... its just one step closer to my ultimate goal." She smiled at Carmine then, waiting for her response. It was also nice having a friend, no matter how fresh their friendship was, it was comforting.

TIME SKIP :

Noir got more and more excited after seeing so many of the students. He changed in the boy's bathroom as it was called into his black soft pajamas and wearing a white undershirt. He was holding onto a thin sheet due to he was planning to just sleep on the floor and a pillow instead of a rock like the times he was out in the forest. Looking around, he can tell the different kind of people will make great teams, just bring them together with the same goal is always a harder challenge.

He saw Elli so he figured to check on him, "Hey Elli, feeling better from earlier from pretty lady. To be honest, I do nicknames as a habit and to be ready in a real fight." He sat nearby, looking outside at the night sky, thinking of his father and his friends in the forest and hoping they are alright from the villagers. "To be honest, I have a secret of my own. But unlike yours, I have to wait until I am approved by Oz to reveal it. I figured to tell you when I had a chance because I feel everyone has their reason to keep secrets. So until we get onto teams, wait and I will show you mine but in return you can't tell anyone, deal?" He held out his hand to give a shake because their is one thing he learned, you must always give and take with friends, even secrets. Noir figured if Elli revealed his so well, why not him. Only problem here is, it has to be somewhere where it is normal for grimm to use 'that'.

After moving from the amphitheater to the ballroom, the two groups of students were separate from each other based on whether they were men or women. Elliot, getting stuck on the male side, unfortunately, decided to change into his nighties rather quickly. They consisted of some shorts, much like those boxers wear, and a loose-fitting undershirt that felt rather comfortable. The shirt was stained permanently with oil and rust stains, mainly due to the fact that he constantly worked on his gauntlets during the night, and the grime from them stained the shirt. Elliot, taking a cue from his mother, decided it was best to keep to himself during this little adventure in the ballroom and huddled up near a corner of the room to begin working with his gauntlets again. Just like me and Taiyang thought, I'm gonna be able to finish this tonight. They'll be fully functional by the time the initiation starts tomorrow. Elliot thought to himself as he pulled out his swiss-army-whatsit to fix up the gauntlets. It had been a gift from Yang when she gave him her gauntlet, and he had been using it ever since to adjust and modify the Ember Celica to fit his personal tastes.

In the middle of working on his gauntlets, however, the boy from earlier approached Elliot and began to speak with him about secrets and who he guessed was Yang. "If you did nicknames for battle then wouldn't it be easier to refer to people by shorter names than their actual names? I mean, calling Yang 'pretty lady' takes a lot longer than just saying her name. Then again, scary lady is an apt description of my mom and it's shorter than 'Professor Goodwitch,' isn't it?" Elliot contemplated with the young man while he continued to work on his gauntlets. It was fun to muse about such things, especially since he could inadvertently make fun of his mother as well. "Well, I didn't really tell you any secrets. I don't have any to be honest. I just really wanted to prolong telling people my full name. It's not something that exactly invites people to hang out with you. If anything, it's more than likely to send them running off." Elliot pointing out, referring to the fact that the name "Goodwitch" inevitably led to being closely watched by Glynda if they interacted with him.

"But, if you wanna tell me you secret then go ahead. I'll wait until you want to." He stated, shaking the boy's hand as well. "Just don't tell me anything weird. There is such a thing as too much information." Elliot mentioned as he went back to messing with the gauntlets. Getting immersed with his work, his thoughts went back to the speech from earlier. I guess this is probably where Yang went whenever she wasn't hanging around Patch. It only makes sense I guess. She's an accomplished Huntress and is pretty cool to boot. He thought to himself, momentarily stopping his work and thinking a little bit more. I wonder if I'll end up having her as my mentor. If I did... would mom just take me out of the team and put me with some other team? If she did... that would really suck. Elliot thought to himself as he let out a disgruntled sigh. "Why do you have to go and make everything so complicated!?" He stated somewhat loudly in frustration, trying to convey how irritated he was with his mother at the moment.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ A couple pats of her pillow marked the completion of making the bed. Slowly, Carmine was getting somewhat used to the congestion. It helped that there was not much that could quell her excitement for tomorrow. That's when things were really going to get interesting around here. Everyone was going to be giving it their all from this point out, and she was no exception. A warrior's weapon, their combat style, their semblance, all of it was an extension of their own body, their personality. When in a fight Carmine could accurately express herself. Whatever level of anxiety that would normally rear its head in this sort of setting was nowhere to be seen. All the better. This massive-sized slumber party would be much more enjoyable that way. Boys in the same room was interesting enough, but she hadn't even had such an experience with girl friends! Although I wish I'd known this was going to be the set up. I would've packed something cuter... she thought, pulling on a strap of her loose tank top. Speaking of cute, Opal was looking exactly that on the little cot next to her. Even the way her bed was made was cute. Carmine grinned to herself. What's up with that?

When her cute new friend and temporary neighbor turned and smiled, poor Carmine surely thought she was caught in the act of staring. "Hmm, they'll be fun, of course!" the young woman enthused after realizing she wasn't in any trouble. "No matter what they end up having us do, we've got to give it our best! So don't let surprises throw you off, okay?" It was easy to smile thinking about the upcoming ventures. When Opal continued, however, a look of recognition crossed her face. They weren't too different, were they? She'd been feeling the same way since the speeches, though Miss Yang's appearances...and even calling out of who she could only assume was Elliot... planted a seed of concern as she had recalled Glynda's letter. He was on the other side of the ballroom, wasn't he? She momentarily glanced over to see him and Noir in a corner of the room. Everything seemed fine.

"Your little brother? You said you're from Northern Anima, right? Is he back at home, then?" Carmine asked, tilting her head. Such a great reason, it almost made Carmine self conscious about how generic her own was. Though, of course, that didn't make resolution waver any. "I'm sure he's proud to know you've made it here and that he's got such an honest big sister! Geez, you're pretty cool, aren't you, Opal?" the light-haired girl asked, pointing toward her new companion. Honestly, I might be disappointed if we don't get put on the same team!

                                  • spaceOpal couldn't hold back a rather loud laugh when Carmine said it would be fun. Well that was one answer! She felt a little embarrassed when her outburst brought a few stares, but she gave a friendly wave and gathered herself, "I suppose you're right. It will be fun, I'm really looking forward to it." She smiled again at her light-haired friend. Carmine offered a rather sweet, uplifting speech and Opal couldn't have agreed more. All they could do now was be their best. The redhead nodded firmly, "Right. I won't let anything surprise me, ready for anything." She turned to face Carmine fully, now, and leaned forward slightly, hands pressing against her ankles.

space"Hey. Let's try and find each other tomorrow, okay? I'm not sure how they pick the teams, but maybe if we're working together, they might end up... you know." She put her two pointer fingers together and smiled. Quite honestly, she was unsure if they could plan something like this, but there wasn't anyone around now. Opal understood the necessity for rules... but it wasn't like there was anything explicitly outlined for them. Right? The young woman listened again as Carmine asked about her little brother, then a few more questions about her life. She was happy to answer them. At least they weren't about her faunus attributes.

space"Yes, his name is Hunter." She looked down thoughtfully at her hands, thoughts of him in her mind. It had been over a year since she last saw him. It was hard, but she knew it was necessary. They were able to speak in letters, at least. And once during her two year stay with Raven, the woman graciously sent her to Menagerie to see Hunter for a day. Opal didn't tell her mother she came home. Opal looked back to Carmine, then, "Well, we're from Anima, we were born there. But... after a Grimm attack on our village, my mother, brother and I moved to Menagerie to be with other faunus. I got the traits from her, so she wanted to be back home among our people. My brother has the cutest little ears." She mused, using her fingers to make wiggly "bunny ears." A light laugh floated from her

spaceOpal smiled when Carmine assured her that her brother would be proud. It was nice to hear, honestly. Having a friend her own age was really something, and Carmine was a great friend to have, that was evident already. Opal suddenly couldn't imagine being on a team without the other girl. The hare faunus was growing fond of her companion, a soft spot steadily growing for her. When Carmine called her cool, a red blush flashed on her cheeks. She moved a hand up to cover her nose and mouth, an embarrassed smile on her face. She wasn't sure what to say, "U-uh, oh really?! Well, thank you, Carmine, but you're plenty cool, too. Ah thank you so much!" Taking compliments was something Opal did not excel in. In her family, compliments were rare. Sometimes her father would offer them up, but they were usually veiled in a lesson or something.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ It took Carmine a second. She wasn't great at reading into things, so when Opal tried to be on the down-low with her plan to get put on the same team, her head merely tilted to the left for a moment. Of course they could pair up and fight along side each other. That was probably the exact sort of thing that the professors and mentors would be looking for when considering the formation of teams and- "Oh!" The exclamation was blurted out a little too loudly for the intention of the "plan." It didn't seem to arouse any suspicion, just a glance or two from some nearby girls. "Yeah, definitely! Even if everyone gets split up, we can find each other and work together. It'll be really fun to fight alongside you, so let's do it!" She brought her fists up in front of her chest in a ready-for-action sort of pose. Even if something like that ended up being impossible, it was a huge comfort to know that she had someone waiting in the ranks, especially someone who seemed as capable as Opal.

"Eheh, I'm not so sure about that, but thank you!" Carmine replied to the returned compliment, scratching at the back of her head. It was hard not to chuckle at Opal's sudden reaction. She seemed like the collected type, so it was a pleasant surprise. What was even more surprising was how quickly she was bonding with people. Though it wasn't that out-of-the-question, was it? Everyone here had, in essence the goal just by attending this school. They must have all at least had a few similar interests. It'd be strange otherwise.

"Your brother sounds so cute! Although... I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your village," she murmured, dropping eye contact. It's a good thing Carmine hadn't registered that Opal had left her father out of the group that moved to Menagerie. If she had, there would have been a high chance that she may have brought up a sensitive topic without thinking. Still, an entire village attacked so horribly that a family had to pick up and leave? Tales like that were the exact reason she wanted to become a huntress. Helpless people who couldn't defend themselves having their lives taken or ruined by grimm that prey on them. It was too sad. After a light sigh, Carmine's green eyes focused back onto Opal. She smiled. "Let's work hard together, okay?" Her vigor had suddenly refreshed at the idea. It may have been a good idea not to get too worked up, however. They needed to get some rest and save their strength for whatever they'd be facing. Carmine wondered if sleep would even be a question.

Being one of the last few to enter the ballroom, having scolded some unknown person who, frankly, was completely uninvolved or unable to even offer help, about her missing and lost in transit, or in her words stolen, bags. she accepted defeat and retired to the room where all the others were headed slowly over the hour.

She stopped just after entering through one of the few double large doors, looking and studying the large hall. Beacon really was a rather becoming and well built school, especially having been rebuilt not too long ago compared to other academies.

Making her way over to a somewhat lesser occupied area. Seeing many different girls, some in pajamas, lucky... and some, one in specific still in her clothes. Seems she wasn't the only one looking rather out of place in her armour and leather and cloth shirts and under garments. Having no other clothes with her. She folded her arms and grumbled some pouting, letting out a brief loud and disgruntled "This is unacceptable!", as she eyeballed the bare cot with only the small pillow on it before letting out a huff and giving a bit of a groan, as she sat back on the empty cot against the wall, her back plate clanking against the wall. Propping her sheathed broadsword against the wall aside her. Closing her eyes some with her gauntlets over her stomach, fingers interwoven. Hopefully it didn't get too cold.

Noir Alcott

Noir listened to Elli as he think it was odd about the nicknames, but figured it was reasonable so he responded with a reason, "True, the reason is to get their attention more then anything else. But I will get better at it, maybe I will call her 'pretty'." When Elli explained his reason on not telling them his full name, it made sense due to she is second to Oz in the school. He nodded in understanding as Elli asked not to tell him something weird. "You kidding, you might think its more or less amazing then weird. It's just my uh...semblance is odd so its better to have a larger circle of friends then just my dad and Oz knowing." However, Noir noticed Elli getting upset about something and screamed so patted him on the back, figured he needed it.

He looked at the girls side, seeing the ladies getting ready for the night but noticed one still in armor and hearing her scream out of frustration then seeing her laying on the wall with her sword next to her. So he stood and said to Elli, "I'm going to check on her." He began to go to the girl section just to check on the red head still wearing her equipment then asked her, "Need a blanket? It's better then nothing." He asked respectfully, hoping she takes it because everyone should feel comfortable, even her.

After a pat on the back it seemed like Noir had left him for the moment, allowing Elliot to return to focusing on the gauntlets laid out in front of him. "Odd Semblance, huh? At least he's got his..." Elliot muttered to himself in a rather discontented way. The young man had yet to awaken to whatever power was sleeping inside of him, and as a result he was slightly perturbed by the fact that many of the students in the room had probably already gained their Semblance. After all, it was something that was a part of them and sometimes even dictated their personality. The fact that Elliot had yet to discover what made him special was sort of a slap in the face to him. I haven't even told my mom yet. If she knew I was dragging behind that much she might not let me attend the academy. Or worse, she would put me through way more training than any of the other students. Elliot thought to himself, realizing how unacceptable a situation like this was to his mother. Glynda was kind and gentle when she needed to be... but Elliot knew better than to mention that he had not progressed as far in his training as he should have.

As a small "click" sound echoed throughout the ballroom, Elliot let out a sigh as he admired the finished products. "Maybe it's about time I give you two a name. Ember Celica may be my style, but I'm not trying to cramp sis's style." Elliot mentioned to himself, staring at the two weapons until something finally "clicked" in his mind as well. "Verum Naturae." He stated to himself mostly, watching the weapons closely as he finally felt his own kind of connection to them. They were no longer some side project that Yang had given him or weapons that were meant to be used in a fight. Just like everyone else, he had to see them as an extension of himself, and as such they should be no different from his own two hands. Taiyang taught me to see myself as the weapon, not the gauntlets. I can rely on them, and they're a part of me, but they're not entirely me. But, I have to acknowledge that because they're a part of me, they should feel that way too. He thought to himself as he stared down at them.

"Why am I having some deep mental conversation with myself anyway!?" Elliot asked himself as he leaned back, falling over onto some haplessly laid bed sheets and a pillow. The young man obviously did not care for setting up a proper bed. "I guess..." Elliot began, a sudden smirk coming over his face as he came to a decision. "Right. My mom's decisions aren't my own. They're not a part of me, and she's not gonna hold me back while I'm here on campus. I'm gonna follow my gut, my instincts. Wherever I go, that's the right and true way. Even if that means stepping on her toes a little bit." Elliot muttered to himself, finding some sort of deep realization as a result of his naming his gauntlets. But... how am I supposed to get to sleep when I can't even feel tired!? I'm way too excited for tomorrow!!! Elliot screamed in his mind as he grabbed another pillow and pulled it over his face in anguish. All of his hopes and dreams would come true when the sun finally came up again.

                                  • spaceOpal calmed herself down, red face paling to its normal color. Carmine's compliment took her by surprise; she was so sincere, it was heartwarming. 'She's so cute, I wasn't prepared for that...' Opal gripped her legs a little tighter, leaning back slightly. She didn't come here to flirt. Plus she was sure Carmine was just being nice. The redhead tried to just listen to what the other girl continued to say, agreeing that they should seek each other out during the trials tomorrow, whatever those may wind up being. She smiled warmly, replying, "I agree. I think we are rather compatible... ah, with our fighting styles and weapons, that is." Opal brought up her hands and mocked Carmine's pose, holding her fists in front of her chest in determination. The pale-haired girl's optimism was amazingly refreshing. Plus, she could tell Carmine wasn't the type to give up or quit; it was that grit and ambition that made a team work.

space"You know, I think you would make a great leader." As harshly as Opal expected the leader position out of herself, she would happily yield that title for Carmine. Hands folded in her lap, Opal smiles when Carmine seemed uncomfortable accepting a compliment as well. The faunus girl wrung her hands together, anticipation coursing through her. Talking about tomorrow made it all the more real, and all the more anxiety-inducing. What would they be doing tomorrow? She could only assume there would be a fighting portion, if nothing else.

spaceOpal smiled when Carmine commented on Hunter; she nodded in agreement. He was a cute little thing. She thought of his doe-y eyes and wide smile. The way he used to not be able to pronounce his L's and called her "Opa." At Carmine's condolences, Opal gave a small shrug, still shrouded with an unspoken guilt, "Thank you. I was young, but I still think about what I could have done. In the end, sometimes the Grimm just win." Her voice dropped and she looked around the room, wondering who else had been effected by the Grimm in such a way. Perhaps Carmine, even. Her solemn attitude didn't last long, though, when Carmine spoke up again. Opal's green eyes locked with Opal's and the way she spoke those five simple words swept Opal away, 'You don't have time for this, Opal. Calm down.' She told herself, starting to feel feelings she'd been holding down for years now. Crushes, they weren't useful right now. The redhead pushed the thoughts aside and smiled at her companion, nodding determinedly.

space"Of course. I wouldn't imagine doing it any differently." She looked across the room then, trying to find something to distract her from Carmine's charm. The pink-haired girl from earlier made her way into the room. Opal watched her settle down on a cot without any belongings. She thought back to the Amphitheater and figured she was complaining about lost luggage before. Opal was about to say something about her to Carmine, but then she saw Noir walking over to her, blanket it hand. A small smile crossed Opal's face and she looked back to Carmine, subtly pointing over at them, "Well, isn't Noir the helping kind?" She laughed lightly and started to lie back on her cot, propping herself up on her elbows, sending another look to Carmine, "I'm not sure I'll even be able to sleep..." It was true; how could she fall asleep with this many feelings whirling around in her mind.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ A leader? The thought had never crossed Carmine's mind. Getting to go to Beacon alone was enough of an honor. She wouldn't even know what to do as team leader. Sometimes it was hard enough to keep herself in check. Although, it was a nice thought. "You think so?" Appreciating the sentiment, Carmine didn't voice her doubts to Opal. The red-haired girl seemed much more apt for something like that. She was quite composed and surprisingly patient. "Thanks! But that sort of position would be suited to you as well, Opal."

She seemed just as excited as Carmine felt. That was reassuring. It wouldn't be any fun if she had unmotivated team members, not that they were even to be teamed; the same just went for whatever team she'd be apart of. "Great, I'm glad!" Of course, Opal wasn't the only friend she'd already made at school. There was Elliot and Noir as well. They were in here, too, right? Carmine honestly couldn't remember if it was a part of faculty or staff that had separated the students or if they had all just done so out of courtesy for one another. Noir was nice enough, but there hadn't been a whole lot more time time they'd spent together. Elliot, on the other hand, she'd gotten a real chance to talk to and was the first person she'd met going to Beacon. Despite his...misgivings, it'd be great to be on his team as well, especially given his strength! Seemed like he and Noir had met up, Elliot doing his routine cleaning he'd mentioned on the way to the school. Although... I have a bad feeling that any team with him on it would be held just as responsible for his "shenanigans". Not sure how I feel about that, but... it wouldn't be so bad. She smiled to herself before leaning back onto the mattress and crossed her legs. Opal's hand in her peripheral caught her attention. "Noir?" she asked, looking back to where her friend was pointing. It seemed that their dark-haired acquaintance was bringing a blanket over to a young woman still clad in armor. I hope she doesn't plan on sleeping like that... Sleeping with armor on can do more harm than good. Carmine looked back over to Opal.

"Me either. I'm way too excited! Although, we might not do as well as we can if we don't even try." Looking around, it didn't seem like the two girls were the only one in this boat. Most of the students were still awake and chatting, reading, or even doing maintenance like Elliot. "Maybe putting several anxious students in one room wasn't such a good idea," she suggested, chuckling a little.

"I'll protect everyone including you. Nothing is going to get in the way of that, not even me." ▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰

Crimson stirred for a second, looking up blinking twice to the slender looking black haired gent. A moment of silence was on her face before she reached out somewhat slower and took a strong gauntlet grasp of the blanket and held it to her chest, "Oh!.. well it's, bout time.... this damn place and it's commoner transportation has no sense of care for their jobs." She said looking down at it. A bit surprised to be perfectly frank. Looking back to him and standing up setting the blanket on her cot and holding a armoured hand out to him, a small hair flip to get her hair behind her shoulders to boot. "Armato, Crimson Armato, you may already know who we are though~ and your name?"

Noir Alcott

Noir listened to the female student as she complains about the transportation he respectfully responded, "Well, with so many of us to be brought here it makes sense if its hard for them if there too many people at once." He then shook her hand as she introduced herself. However, he looked at her wondering on what she meant. So he introduced himself, "Well, my name is Noir, it is nice to meet you and to be honest I have no idea what you mean but it must be important." He smiled to her with a goofy grin, hoping their first meeting goes well. He liked her equipment but he hopes she doesn't attack him if she said anything wrong was a thought that was going on in his head.

Shaking his hand with a good friendly firm grip, a small cut out of a smile on her face which quickly melted after he spoke. Raising an eyebrow, keeping her gauntlet holding his hand. Still shaking it up and down slowly. "Well nice to meet such a gentleman, but.. an uninformed one. You know, to fully be appreciative of things like getting to meet someone like myself or my family, well, you should know who I am, surely.. you've heard the Armato name before right?.... Right." She looked to him squarely, although not rough looking and still soft in appearance. Her grip not lowering or softening.
