Age: 22
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Panromantic Homosexual
Craft: Healer
Rank: Journeyman (Mindhealer, spec. Thread)
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description:
Short hair, just long enough to show curl (pixie!) to his orangey-red hair. In the summer blonde highlights set it afire. Super pale and ruddy-cheeked, he does not tan or freckle. Medium height, wiry build, prone to moving when studying/thinking (pacing, fidgiting), very energetic. His face has a nondescript blunted square shape with rounded features, and a tapering nose. Most of the time he seems almost about to smile, his eyes merry if a confusingly pale grey-green color.
He likes clothing based more on how they feel than how they look. He likes the clean lines of militaristic cuts, but is unlikely to wear it if it's uncomfortable or difficult to move around in. He likes interesting textures as well, and uses uneven weaves in decorating when infeasible in clothing. His favorite cloak has a wide collar of sandy-colored llama-skin fur that matches his hair. While he isn't too particular, he does enjoy the colors purple and green (or teal), both of which have been at one time or other associated with his craft.
Personality:
Mennick is a sympathetic sort; even if he cannot always relate he seeks common ground and understanding. He has a warm personality and comes across to others as genuinely caring and open-minded. Others may feel as if they can come to him with their problems or ailments and that he will listen and genuinely care about what they have to say. Sometimes his suggestions are surprisingly insightful, even to those he knows more intimately. He gets along with a wide range of people and can feel part of many groups and communities.
Spontaneous and playful in his time off, he is known to get caught up in his own feelings hoping that the heat of the moment would last a little longer. He has had many relationships, some quite stormy. He seeks affirmation from others, especially loved ones; after all, he does not hesitate to give appreciation and support. After a break-up and a bottle of wine, it is not uncommon for him to wake up with someone he barely knows without recollection of how he got there.
As a Mindhealer, he is able to make connections between events, symptoms, and other reactions. With more practice, he will see the patterns more quickly before proceeding with treatment. Though he defaults to rules, he is flexible and can improvise in abnormal circumstances. He sees life as a precious gift and strives to make the most of it, even when the sheer number of patients is overwhelming. He proceeds enthusiastically and energetically, seeking to convey his outlook to his patients.
As a leader, he would be charismatic, attracting people to a cause with his passion and careful optimism. He can inspire and motivate people with his expressive, down-to-earth speaking style. He is an ethical advocate who can provide insightful counsel to his superiors because he speaks with the people in mind. He takes their needs, interests and aptitudes in mind, contrasting against their actual contributions to the cause, and their potential to improve and contribute in the future.
Positive Trait List Energetic, enthusiastic, resourceful; empathetic, ethical, charismatic.
Negative Trait List May react unpredictably upon seeing injustices go unpunished, likewise may be insubordinate when expected to follow unjust orders. On the other hand, seeks acceptance or companionship to the point of trying to change himself rather than to seek common ground. Similarly, easily taken advantage of by loved-ones, respected superiors, and peers. Self-neglect: prone to melt-downs or heavy drinking as stressors pile up, and malnutrition. Prone to short-term or unstable relationships; separation anxiety.
Myers-Briggs: ENFP, Visionaries: Advocate
History:
A summarized family history: Mennick grew up in a small hold in the Tillek region that specializes in terraced farming and baking. It was small, but it was his parents' hold, and it had been carved out of the mountain itself by their ancestors. Beholden to High Reaches Weyr, a matter of great pride to the family, the hold nevertheless was capable of only a modest tithe. In the care of the sturdy, hardworking parents named Zandesik and Cynmen, Mennick enjoyed a difficult but well-rounded childhood. He witnessed his eldest brother Spasek sent away for "talking too much," which deeply upset the younger boy who rationalized that Spasek must be lazy. (It wasn't until many Turns later that he learned that Spasek had indeed talked so much that he developed laryngitis and began to play his lute in earnest to fill in the "silence." He was already skilled enough to gain entry into the HarperHall, where he was treated and studied under a voice coach. He decided to stay and Master in the subject of Voice!) This left the next brother in line to inherit the Hold. An easygoing but hard-working son, Zendysk was happy take up that mantle. Cynsizk, the eldest sister, was already talented in Knitting and went off to WeaverCraftHall to expand her study to include Tailoring. She made sure that little Mennick understood that it was her choice, that she loved her family, and that she would come back home someday soon. Finally, the youngest sister, Cynchie, had decided as a little girl that she would stay and become a Baker under their Journeywoman mother's tutelage.
As stair-steppers, Mennick and his brother Maddeck were always together. Growing up with this very logical brother, Mennick's focus was always on on feelings. He observed people relating psychologically to their wounds and the wounds of others. Pain, fear, coping and compensating, annoyance or impatience, complacency and re-injury. Though he lacked the vocabulary at the time, he came to understand these feelings intimately. As a very young child, while his brother wrapped its injuries, Mennick told little sister Cynchie that her doll was afraid and needed her help to get well.
Though older, Mennick was so much smaller that strangers assumed that Maddeck was the elder of the two. As a result, Mennick developed a bit of a complex and allowed his brother to take the lead in many adventures and decision-making. One of these decisions was moving to the HealerCraftHall, where they would continue to study for many Turns. However, was inevitable that they eventually be separated because of their differing aptitudes and interests. Mennick's interests were broad and he sought to understand how people think: how they learn, retain information and memories, the grieving process, the reactions to trauma, and other more complicated mental issues. It was no surprise that he studied under the Mindhealers as an apprentice.
Long before the brothers walked the tables, they decided to follow a dream they had shared as boys: to serve at High Reaches Weyr as Weyr Healers. Their tiny Hold of origin was along a well-traveled road, and their favorite Harper-tales were about dragons fighting Thread. Everyone knew that High Reaches still kept its vigil in case the ancient threat came back, even though common knowledge stated that it had long been defeated. The Harpers kept the old tales alive and the boys formed new ones about serving their guardians in the sky. Since their path was with the HealingCraft and their goals were plain, it made sense to their instructors to transfer there early on, as opposed to later when they had established pre-conceived notions incompatible with Weyr life.
Later, Thread returned to most of Pern's surprise. Families were decimated or irradicated. Mennick and Maddeck had barely walked the tables when they found themselves treating ailments that required innovation on the fly. They were already in the best place to study how a healthy mind and body can thrive despite the threat of Thread, and now Mennick found himself treating those shattered by horror, terror, and shock.
Mennick loves little girls. They are so fragile and cute. At least he used to think so before Silvina came along. Now, he knows them to be strong, resilient, and fascinating little people. Silvie came into his life during the first waves of Thread, when everyone suffered seemingly endlessly. She was homeless, parentless, lost, hungry, dirty-- who knows what all she was, she was hardly old enough to know her own name. Mennick may never know what all she suffered and she may never remember. The healers, including himself, knew not what to do with children like her, other to patch up her wounds, foster her off and move on. But Silvie followed him home, as he will say forevermore, and if she wants to call him Daddy, he is overjoyed to find that niche in her life.
Dragons represent so many ideals that many people look to with whimsy, and Mennick is no exception. He has thought of Impressing more often than his practical brother has. To Impress a dragon would mean that he would have to set aside his daughter and craft for the dragon, Weyr, and Thread. Further, he understands that it would by necessity delay his Mastery in Mindhealing, even if his focus is on Thread-related mental trauma. And even if he will understand it firsthand through the eyes of a dragonrider. Whatever the future may hold, he attends every Hatching he possibly can and enjoys each immensely. It is not all for fun though, and he drags his notes along with him to study the process of candidates bonding with their dragons, or going back to the barracks without. And should a dragon follow him home one day, he is certain that his brother Maddeck will step in and help raise Silvie. After all, "Uncle Maddy" does already, after a fashion, and he was the one who named her!

Candidate Specific Questions
Do you want them to have an official Search RP? Oh no, don't tell him.
Do you understand they will age every passing year regardless if you're there to RP the or not? Yes
Do you want them to have a possible Stands Impression? Yes
- - - > Please keep in mind that Stands Impressions are very rare. This means that not everybody will get an opportunity to have a surprise Impression, and you lower your chances of being picked by a dragonet. Given the character is not ICly an official Candidate, they will need a reason to be at the Weyr of their choice long-term, or at least for every Hatching.
