Mawasii, daughter of the late Hakan'Mawasii - son of a retired queen and mother of a strong line of Firekin. That was the blood in her veins. That of a warrior. That of a lady who knew herself and trusted in her own strength and judgements (despite the Nergui favouring the male of the species). Indeed, if Mawasii had known of her Firekin heritage she might have been prouder still...or perhaps horrified given that the pride had killed her father before she'd ever had a chance to meet him.
Still, though they had never met, she loved him dearly and tried to live up to the expectations she imagined he would have set down for his cubs. Her mother, however, might have been less keen on her life choices...
But her being here, amongst these rough, strange people, proved one thing if nothing else. The Nergui might have been aggressive and brutish at times, but that wasn't all they were. Nothing - she had learned - was as black and white as all that.
It was taking the dark female some time to get used to the heat of their new home and it's strangeness made her wary in a way that suggested Nergui superstition had started to rub off on her. Unnatural formations rising out of the sand meant nothing good, of that she was sure, and it was likely to take a lot of time to dig through the ruins of a dead pride.
With evening's shadows drawing in on her, she had found herself a secluded spot to watch the sunset - one of the best parts about moving here. A desert sun was a ferocious thing during the day but at this particular time it was devastating in its beauty.

It was a well known within this particular lion's circles that there was little that bothered him. If he were ever to experience discomfort, no other individual had ever been privy to that information. Thus he had strode across the desert sands with his usual sense of purpose, disregarding the otherwise relentless rays that had beat down on his fur and raised his temperature to rather epic proportions. Suffice it to say that it was only the weak he sought shelter when things became difficult.
No, he had been through much worse...and deserts were mere child's play.
That aside, he also hadn't really been one to admire the view... In all his time on this earth he had spent most of it engrossed in more important tasks. As smelling the roses had never been one of those tasks, it had never been on his radar to enjoy the 'finer' things in life. A sunset could arguably be included in that category, as well as meals with friends and small talk. He really didn't like small talk, in his eyes everything had to serve a purpose, if someone wanted to sit and waste several hours discussing the weather than they could do so...but he wouldn't be there.
With that in mind, the black lioness would have to be lucky to catch his attention as she took up her position in her chosen spot. She was not a feline of interest, she featured on no lists, and she didn't look like someone he need concern himself with in order to maintain any cover he might require... Frankly, she could have been a tree and achieved much the same result!

She might not have featured very highly on his lists, but he on the other hand, might find himself rather high up on her list...given a moment or two, of course.
Mawasii wasn't certain what it was that disturbed her from her reverie. The male had made no obvious sound and was distant enough that she did not take him to be an aggressor. Yet, for all that he might have passed by like a ship in the night, her head turned and she settled her gaze on him. She was not elaborately marked as was favoured in the Nergui. Nor was she heavily scarred or decorated, but her eyes were sharp and piercingly bright and they alone had gained her favour when she had needed it.
She knew only one thing. The male was not a Nergui and thus, needed to be intercepted.
Picking herself up, she gave a call - not quite a warning, but gruff enough that might not be easy to ignore. "Wait a moment," she called, hastening to close the gap, "let me get a better look at you." This land was still very new and they'd been told to look out for anyone who might be able to aid them in unlocking the desert's secrets.

Adar'malik did not take orders from just anyone, and as a result, Mawasii's fell on deaf ears.
Even as she hastened to close the gap he continued at much the same pace as he had before. The closer she came, the larger he would become. Suffice it to say that he was a rather substantial lion, whether it be in sheer size and muscle, he was hardened enough to have been through quite a bit.
As for the smell...
It was unknown as to whether Mawasii truly knew what the smell of fire and brimstone was, but it positively radiated off him. If he had been looking to impress any particular female it wasn't going to be today; frankly if he ever managed to scrub that stench off him it would be a miracle. Nevertheless, despite his decision to ignore the lioness as she pursued him she would be able to get a solid enough view of what he was and how he looked.
Markings and all, he hadn't set about disguising himself in these lands as they had already been confirmed as unsuitable. They'd been too inhospitable for the charges, as such they would be incapable of making the journey to the otherwise ornate temples near the bodies of water in the depths of this territory. For want of a better description these lands had been deemed useless and so he was free to roam unhindered.
...Or he would have been if it hadn't been for the one who had taken such an interest in him.

What the actual hell? Was he ignoring her?
Eyes narrowed angrily, tail whipping behind her now as she picked up speed; turning her walk into a lope that saw her closing the gap ever quicker. The lion was big, she noted somewhere in the back of her mind. Big enough that she probably shouldn't be messing with him. But she was Mawasii. A guardian. A warrior. If she didn't deserve some respect, then who did?
"Hey!" This time her voice was louder and angrier and, as she drew in closer, she coiled the muscles in her hind legs and pounced - coming to land beside him in a spray of sand.
"What's the big idea? Something got you spooked?"
That was when she smelt it. - whatever it was. It was foul enough to make her stagger backwards and screw up her nose. "Woah, someone is overdue a good grooming." There was the slightest hint of teasing muddled in with the shock and disgust. "Where have you been to end up stinking like that?"

There was a gnat in his ear... It was a very insistent gnat, one that truly wanted his attention. However when it came to flies, it was usually much easier to ignore them, eventually they went away, swatting only served to make them fly around for a brief period before landing on you again. This was the manner in which he perceived the now irritated lioness; although he did appear to flash have a smile as she staggered back.
It was satisfying to see that her dramatic entry had been retracted almost immediately. There were benefits to a lack of grooming, in some respects it did help to keep the flies away, and she had proven that. Or rather she would have, had she not then returned to attempting to make conversation with him. She was going to be one of those types, one that would eventually wrap her forepaws around his hindleg as he dragged her the whole way across the sands until he reached his destination.
...Now there was an idea.
Where was the nearest cliff? He could probably kick her off that; he was curious as to how many times she might bounce on the way down.
She didn't receive a rise from the lion who elected to continue on his way, she hadn't even interrupted his stride with her entrance and her words really did seem to be falling on deaf ears. Fortunately, it seemed that he had elected to deal with her through a different means, if only to tempt her closer to the nearest cliff face for scientific purposes.
"What do you want, gnat?" The words came in a low rumble.

As time went on Mawasii began to wonder if he would ever speak, or even if he could. She'd never been in this situation before. Approaching someone usually instigated conversation or, at the very least, some sort of aggression. Given how big he was, she had been expecting the later - though hoping for the former. To the silence, however, she had no response. She was puzzling how to continue this further without just moving off in another direction - forever to be befuddled - when he spoke.
Her head came up.
"You are near Nergui lands but you aren't a Nergui, is that not reason enough?" She kept pace with him, choosing to ignore the insult. She was too happy to have gotten a response to allow that to close it off again. Now that he'd broken his silence maybe she could keep him going. She shrugged, "I have my orders. The Kaar have foreseen danger lurking and we've not found it yet. Don't blame me for wanting the glory of uncovering the mystery myself."
She paused a moment to try and gauge his reaction before continuing, "can't be you, though. They'd smell you a mile off." Or maybe it was him. The pungent smell was certainly not normal by any means. Despite the smell, though, he cut a rather striking figure. Dark of pelt, large of stature and with those markings. He'd have been welcomed amongst her people without a doubt. Females would vie for his attention. She could see the appeal this time...if she just closed her nostrils.

The lioness received a laugh in response, gravelly and scarcely used. If anything it was jeering at her declaration, so that was the name of the infiltrators was it? This was what they were calling themselves then, the Nergui - they must have assumed everyone they had met was born yesterday if they were hoping to instill such ridiculous notions in every strangers' head.
"These are not your lands," he stated, his foot steps never ceasing. He'd known exactly who and what lived in these lands and he knew it wasn't them. They weren't carrying enough jewels to fit in, they had simply decided the land was free and therefore their's. How quaint.
Still, he was above the petty politics of land grabs and if this pride of misfits had decided they wanted to pretend they could lord over the region, then by all means. Stand in his way like this particular creature though and they might find themselves summarily executed, he might even make it into a fine piece of artwork...one that would be right at home in those temples so near the oasis - yes, he had seen those pictures on the walls and he was fairly certain he could best some of them.
He opted to ignore the rest, her leaders might be spouting nonsense but he had no reason to acknowledge them and her fascination with his scent served no comfort other than to reinforce her own discomfort. If she disliked the smell so much then perhaps she would take her leave, if she was uncomfortable now, he could certainly make it worse!
Regardless, now that he had identified the reason for the interrupt he saw no reason to acknowledge her further and his eyes slid forward again. If she wanted to get anything out of him, she was going to have to cut the small talk. It should have been clear by now that this was not a part of social etiquette that he performed well in...

These are not your lands.
Her step faltered for a split second, mind working fast to try and apply some logic and theory to those words. How would he know that unless he had been here before? Unless he was familiar with this part of the world? Besides, as far as she was concerned, these lands did belong to the Nergui. They had been empty before their people had come. No one to defend against their arrival. All land had been walked upon and if this was not a new territory of theirs then no land would belong to anyone!
"The pride who lived before are long gone. Dead. Refugees. Whatever. Besides, we didn't come here for them. We came here for a bigger purpose than bringing down the last of a dying breed," for all that she spoke tough, Mawasii was actually pleased that it hadn't come to that. She sought strength and glory but wasn't much keen on gaining it through murder. "But for you to have known that means you have been here before. What possible reason could you have to make yourself familiar with a place like this? Unless you're a survivor of those that once lived here amongst their finery and their gods."
She scowled then, "tell me. What is your purpose here? You're not just 'any rogue'. I can tell that just by looking at you."
Could he have been the danger the seers spoke of? Somehow she doubted it, but perhaps he was a part of a complex scene that would soon be playing out before them.

All right so he was going to need a fly swatter, a really, really big one.
Mawasii was certainly persistent and so incredibly nosy, had she never been taught that asking too many questions could get a person killed? Evidently the Nergui were just as pathetic as every other pride - she'd already told him far too much, more than enough for him to slip in and out unnoticed with every possible piece of information he could make use of. Again, her land grabs and proclamations fell on deaf ears, if she wished to challenge the long dead who lay on these lands then far be it for him to dispute that.
...Let her disturb the dead, he always had enjoyed watching the arrogant and the curious suffer. Usually painfully, often by his own claws - for scientific purposes he had wanted to see what made some of them squirm. Credit where it was due, a large portion of the arrogant ones lasted a while until they lost their minds and killed themselves.
Abruptly he came to a halt and very slowly turned his head; red eyes fixed on the lioness and by his expression, it was obvious that he lacked the patience to put up with her incessant questions.
"You have precisely ten seconds to leave."
He paused and raised a brow.
"After that I use your intestines to hang your corpse to a tree," he stated. Apparently he had no intentions of answering any of her questions, he was just so charming.

He came to a halt and she side-stepped as if sensing a strike that, thankfully, never came. Her eyes narrowed at him and in a few seconds her mind raced to gather her thoughts and decide on her next course of action. She was aware of her distance, firstly. In pursuing him she was now far enough away from the Nergui that it would likely be too late by the time they answered her call for aid. Secondly, her next move would be either wise or stupid - the latter made for her own pride rather than anything else.
Mawasii didn't like to run and this male - despite being infuriatingly silent - was interesting.
By the time her countdown had reached five seconds, she had come to her decision and, in the back of her head she knew her brother would kill her if he ever came to find out about this. If this male didn't kill her first, of course.
"Fine. Keep your answers to yourself. I don't need them to know there's something different about you. Why that is doesn't really matter." Although it would plague her for nights on end if she ever survived this encounter. "Whatever you think about pride lions there are those who appreciate strength when they see it. You are strong. I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I could win in a fight with you but, for a mere 'female', I am strong and so are those who live with me in my pride."
Get to the point, girl, she chided herself.
"I'm expected to find a strong male to father my cubs. So, instead of questions, how about a proposal? If I leave off of the third degree, would you be willing to spend some time with me?"
Well...that was one question she did not think she was going to ask that day. Or any day, really...

She'd gone over the ten seconds, but she had at least bought herself sometime by conceding that she was being a complete and utter pain in the a**. When she finally came to the realisation that her pursuit of answers would get her nowhere fast, he granted her a reprieve. There was something to be said for intelligence and Adar'malik was the sort to reward it, her reward came in the form of him not turning her into a decoration.
Nevertheless when she had finally ceased her rambling and had finally gotten to the crux of her issue, he couldn't help but release a thoroughly amused bout of laughter.
That was what this was about?
If he had lacked self control he would have stared at her incredulously, she was propositioning someone she didn't even know because he simply looked strong? He'd seen felines talk a good game, some of them even carried it well, but when it came to the goods... If they went on looks alone he surmised the pride was probably going to be incredibly disappointed on more than one occasion. Not that he'd be a disappointing sire, but he could count a fair few who would be despite their muscle mass.
"Allow me to catch myself up to speed," he drawled. "You wish to request I sleep with you, so that you will not query me further, is that it?"
He paused and shook his head.
"I rather preferred my original plan of action; though I am incredibly curious as to why you believe your productive capabilities are considered so valuable."
Well, his allies would have said this was reasonably diplomatic for him...

It was true enough that you could not judge one by size alone. Mawasii's brother would have been a fine example of this. He had grown into a huge lion with all the bulk befitting a warrior and yet he was better suited to being a 'gentle giant'. Mawasii didn't think she'd ever even heard Kafele growl, let alone snarl and show his teeth. But still, size could be put to good use and it had certainly gotten Kafele and herself out of some potentially tricky situations in the past. Strangers didn't know that her brother was a big softy who would likely cower behind her in a fight.
Well, perhaps 'cower' was a little mean. He'd try and put up a fight, at least.
In any case, she blinked up at this dark stranger through her eyelashes, trying her best to look 'cute' enough that he might consider her proposal. She'd never been great at being girly, though, so she wasn't sure her seductive look would be at all convincing.
"Uh...yep. Pretty much," she replied with a brazen smile.
The next words out of his mouth, however, were slightly less easy to answer. Still, Mawasii wasn't really one for poetic talk. She could be blunt when needed and honest too. The answer to his question, in her mind, required both.
"If I was going to give you an answer that might appeal, I'd say that I'm the product of a great warrior line." She'd heard the stories of her father's great accomplishments and tangles with the gods. Her Uncle Rap had told her them as she had grown - though they might have been mere exaggerations. "But to be honest, my productive capabilities aren't more valuable than anyone else's. Even a weak female might produce a warrior of great skill. What my position does, however, is grant you the freedom to have your night--" Or two, she smiled to herself, "then take your leave and continue to live your mystery life without ever having to lift a paw. I'll train the cubs to become great warriors and, if you like, you can come see them one day if our paths cross again."
She blinked her blue eyes at him and smiled, "or you could consider your original plan but...I do think that would be a waste."
Her mouth would get her into serious trouble one of these days...

If she'd been going for seduction it failed; this wasn't due to her inability to flirt, he simply didn't have an inclination towards it. The lion was a difficult one to say the least, and he was most assuredly an unpleasant and rude one to the vast majority of individuals. It would have been accurate to assume that he wasn't popular with the crowd, but at least when it came to his allies, his rather unique skill set was appreciated.
...Social skills weren't really important for his line of work.
Consequently as Mawasii made her case, she was met with a largely unimpressed stare. Perhaps other males would have been flattered? He surmised that this might be the case if she was attempting to make for herself by taking this route. Such a shame that he had no need to gain the approval of others when it came to that; hell, even his inclination towards having offspring was lacking. What would he do with scruffy, whining cubs? They would do nothing more than get under foot, it would take far too long for them to mature into something remotely useful.
And if she was aiming to persuade him by offering pleasure...
Mawasii would perhaps learn quickly that he seemed to be completely devoid of such tendencies; though why he was devoid of these urges was open to debate.
No, it was safe to say that in a general sense he had no interest. Fortunately, Mawasii had amused him to the point that he regarded her as decent sport. It was better than nothing, right? Another dark chuckle escaped from his lips and he shook his head at her behaviour.
"You could not raise warriors even if you tried, you do not know what the word means," he stated and narrowed his eyes. "But if you are so desperate to thrust your backside into my face," he remarked crudely. "Then you may have a few hours of my time," he added and strode away. "After that you may cry into your meal and regret your decisions like the rest of your kind," he finished.
It was rare that cubs resulted from such things so quickly, she'd have to be very lucky to achieve it from him...But he would humour her, it was entertaining to see someone descend into self loathing when they realised they had made several rather unfortunate mistakes...Kimaria Fin? (Mawasii I'm so sorry he's a jerk... )

His words sounded like a challenge to her. He thought she could not raise warriors? Ha, one day he might have the misfortune to bump into one of his kids and they, themselves, could prove him wrong. Oh how she would love to be there to witness that little piece of history.
This lion might have been different to others in some respects but, when it came down to it, the ego was there, just like with all of the others. This was clearly a lion who hadn't met his match very often. Perhaps he just chose his fights wisely or maybe he did have talent that his dangerous edge suggested. Either way, she supposed it was best that she didn't find that out firsthand.
She just wished that she could have learned more about him to sate her curiosity. He spoke of regret but the only regret she would have - in her mind - would be that she couldn't find a way to get him to open up more. To find a little snippet of information that might give her a clue to the type of lion he was and the life he led. She wanted to ask his name but knew that he'd not give it. Well, so be it. She'd not give hers either -- she hadn't already had, she?! She cursed her own ability to talk for talking's sake and told herself she ought to change that (she wouldn't). Then, with an arched brow, she gave him a nod and took a breath - that she held. In these particular matters she had know real knowledge but, in her head, she was ready for cubs. Ready for a family. So many others in the Nergui had their litters and now it was her turn.
Even if he was a big jerk, she had chosen well - or so she believed in that moment.Epine de Rose haha, thankfully Mawasii has a thick skin. These two crack me up. Was really fun to RP even with the awkward conversation!! XD
