"That's right, come to Daddy."

A cocky smirk was spread wide across Alrik Rey's face as he watched one of the enemy forces attempt to sneak their way into a side entrance. Little did the opposition know, but he'd set out his bear trap and concussion mine under the last step of the stairwell and both weapons lay in wait of the unsuspecting approacher to, well, approach.

The blonde teenager inched closer to the computer screen as he stared intently to the game in front of him. He'd promised his mother that he'd go to the library, but while she assumed he was there to study, she assumed wrong. Very wrong.

Instead, thanks to some trusty tools he had hidden away in his messenger bag and the fact the librarian was some aging old overweight biddy who hated getting out of her chair, he'd managed to land the computer in the last aisle, farthest away from any prying eye of the authorities. There, he gizmo'd and gadget'd his way into hooking up the computer and downloading a cracked copy of his favorite game of the month: Overwatch.

The sparkle in his eye faded as a giant, ironclad geriatric character appeared at the top of the stairwell and triggered his trap. He detonated his mine just moments later, to no avail. The ironclad, knightly looking character had already thrown up his force field shield and had sustained hardly any damage.

"Aw man, c'mon."

Eyes widened as the same character suddenly took notice of Alrik's small, gangly Australian character and began swinging his obnoxiously long hammer. Seconds later and Alrik was throwing his mouse down and shaking his fist at the computer monitor, which flashed a recap of his most recent death.

"NOT FAIR!!!"

Dana wasn't doing as well in class as she would have liked. If her grades slipped too much, her mom would have gotten involved without a doubt, and there was no way she was going to let that happen. The library was as good enough a place as any to finish up her math homework, considering it was dull as dirt and devoid of distractions. You know, normally.

The sudden shout of some dumb boy had her pencil skidding across the paper, ruining one of her carefully written equations. Nostrils flaring with irritation, Dan slammed her book shut and stalked over to the noisemaker, fully intent on giving him hell.

That was the plan, anyway, until the sight of the game made her pause, tilting her head sharply as she took in the colorful scenery.

With a huff, she pulled out a seat at the adjacent computer, studying everything with beady eyes. "What are you playing?" She asked finally, tapping a finger thoughtfully on the desk. Dana didn't know much about video games. She liked them, but she didn't spend much time on them.

His character looked like a filthy excuse of a man,... and was his hair on fire? Dana frowned, her curiosity piqued. "And who's that? A dumb question, perhaps, but she didn't come to the library to play games.

An eyebrow rose as he stared at the blue haired invader, the teenager jumping in front of his view just as his respawn timer ended. Had it not been for the fact that his team had been losing horribly anyways and it was Quick Play instead of Competitive, he might have been miffed. Instead, he found himself amused at the idea that someone didn't know what Overwatch was.

Pft. What a girl thing to say, asking what OW was.

"That's Junkrat." His finger moved out to point at the character she was addressing. "He's my favorite - mostly because he's the best, but mostly if there's someone decent around to heal him when he's blowing stuff up."

Side-eyeing the girl, Alrik suddenly developed an idea.

"You don't happen to actually play games, do you?"

After all, girls made for the best healers.

She eyed the dirty, toothy man on the screen with disdain, clearly not very impressed. His eyes made him look crazy. And he was missing limbs. Maybe he shouldn't have been the guy that handled the bombs.

The question was enough to make her start a little, and Dan scoffed. "Sure I do! I just haven't played this one!" She certainly didn't have a fancy computer that could play games, but she had an older console and some handheld ones! Well, okay, her brother played more than she did, but still!

"Why?" Dana gave him a suspicious look now, clearly not seeing where this was going. He might have been able to play the game here, but surely he couldn't hook up another computer so she could... could he?

His eyebrows rose and he gave her a smirk. "We'll see about that."

Scooting back in his chair, he motioned for her to take his spot, his hands grabbing the back of her seat and forcibly sliding her into his spot while he swiveled his own into the neighboring computer's place.

"You can practice against AI's while I upload onto this computer. Don't worry, you won't be playing competitive so it's not like you could ruin my stats or anything."

A single finger waggled in the direction for her to click before his focus dropped on the keyboard in front of him. Whipping out a USB from his keychain, a few keystrokes and a stolen access code for the internet later and he was busy downloading a cracked version of the game from his favorite torrent site. "I got my sis an account, but she never plays it so I can use hers and we can play together."

Glancing back, he gave the stranger a grin, his tone getting more excited with the idea. "And since she's low leveled, I bet we'll get tossed in against some nooblets too. This'll be awesome."

Dana tried not to flail as she was unexpectedly dragged over, staring at the computer screen with more than a little apprehension. Competitive? What stats? "Oh," She said, trying to sound like she knew exactly what he's talking about. "Cool."

What the heck did any of it mean???

She clicked where he told her to, curiously scanning the impressive list of characters. There were so many! Who should she choose...? She found herself torn between a young woman with a giant mechanical thing, and a pink-haired woman who looked absolutely ripped. Pink-haired woman it was.

Dana's eyes glowed with delight when she realized the woman had a laser-beam, and she happily went about zapping the little training robots without having any real clues what she was doing. The boy was given a glance when he seemed to get more excited. Well. Fake it until you make it! She tossed him a confident grin back, brushing her hair out of her eyes. "Well, duh. They aren't gonna know what hit 'em!"

She had a laser gun! No one could beat that.

"Zarya, huh? Not quite a healer...but she's good."

He glanced over onto her screen to spy on what she was doing, the disappointment laced in his voice. She wasn't half bad, honestly, though her trigger finger was a little overzealous when it came to the pew pew'ing. It was clear she was a beginner at this game but hey, he was good enough to do enough damage for two people so they should be decent, right? Of course.

"Okay," he continued, clicking a few buttons until a horizontal banner popped across her screen. "That's me inviting you to a group. Accept it and I'll queue us up."

He tapped his mouse three times until she hit the correct button and then with a flourish, he clicked a few more things until they were put into a match against six strangers with four unknown users as their own partners.

"If you want Zarya, you'd better click it - FAST!!"

His own username - GameMaster99 - had quickly snatched up his favorite explosives expert and he watched as one by one the characters were chosen on their screen. "Oh man, we've got a Mercy and a Winston. With you as Zarya, this is gonna be a great offense!"

Healer? Who the heck wanted to play a healer? She was a lady with a laser beam. This kid could heal his dang self if he wanted to play a healer! The notification to join a group suddenly flashed on her screen, and Dana clicked to accept as soon as he said it was him.

Oh geez, there were other people in here?! For some reason, that hadn't occurred to her, and Dana squinted as people immediately accepted characters. Zarya? Who the heck was--OH, LASER BEAM LADY. She clicked furiously at the icon, sighing audibly with relief once she'd locked in her pick. Thank goodness. "Well, yeah. I have a laser beam!" Of course it'd be a good offense.

The match started, and Dana realized they were in some... old, western, podunk diner? What the heck? Their team was hopping around, greeting one another, and then rushed towards a pair of closed doors. Dana had no idea what the heck was happening, but a cool, almost robotic voice announced that the match would be starting in ten seconds. As the numbers rolled down to zero, the doors open, and all hell broke loose.

People were shooting at them, there were shouts and noises and so much stuff going on that Dana found herself overwhelmed. So, she did what she did best--she charged headlong into the chaos. Zarya had a little bubble to shield herself, and the girl was making heavy use of it. Payload. They had to escort... a payload. Why? Why the heck couldn't they just get a plane to fly it places?! Whatever!

The girl made a strangled snarl of outrage as she found herself getting pummeled by rockets from some stupid woman in blue armor. She couldn't hit her with the laser! Before she could get too angry though, the old cyclops guy on their team gunned her down. "Alright!" She cheered quietly... only to get mowed over by some dumb knight with a hammer. Dana groaned, dragging her hands down her face.

She had to admit though, the game was a lot of fun. Somehow, they battled their way through the map, escorting their dumb little payload through the western scenery. They were so close to the end, she could see it! They'd killed off the enemy team, in no small part thanks to Explodey Man's crazy bombs, but she could see them starting to run back to the point.

"No!" She cried out loud, slapping at her 'Q' button. She hadn't seen a point to this dumb ultimate--until now. Gravity yanked the enemy team back, keeping them helplessly trapped at their spawn while the payload rolled onto the point. Dana laughed with delight, shooting both fists in the air as she kicked her feet. "We DID IT!"

She may have forgotten they were in a library.

Alrik was already sharing her enthusiasm after the win, but not nearly quite as vocal as his new, blue haired friend. Still, it was kind of adorkable, how excited she was getting over such an easy win. She wasn't a half bad tank - he was sure he could do better, of course - but for a first timer, he'd give her credit the credit she was due.

"That was a nice ult, back there." He commended her, clicking his way towards re-queuing them. Well, that is, until he saw the sour expression of the elderly librarian as she struggled to make her way out from behind her desk and head in their direction. Guess he wasn't the only one who noticed Blue Dork's little excited outburst.

"Scram - now," he hissed, scrambling to shut down and delete the programs from the computer, or at least destroy enough of the evidence that it wouldn't link back to him. His hands slapped the keys on his computer before leaning over to do the same to hers while the blue haired girl grabbed her belongings and darted around the corner of the table.

Grabbing his keyring and his backpack, Alrik managed to make it exactly two feet before the aging librarian snatched hold of the back of his shirt collar.

"Mister Rey, I believe it's been exactly two weeks since I last had to call your sister and report you for meddling with the library equipment."

Well, he thought glumly to himself, it was fun while it lasted.
