They had been very precise in their directions.
He was to settle himself here and wait, this was the gorge that he would find the herbalist. They had been unable to give him precise details, only that it was his preferred path and eventually, in time, the lion would stumble across him. As it stood, all he had to go on was a vague description - a pale leopard with rather distinct spots. Lilac eyes graced his face and he was of an older disposition, so at least he knew that he wasn't seeking out anything particularly young, that would help a little.
...Or rather it would have helped had it not been for the fact that it seemed that the only life that existed here was avian. He hadn't seen a damned thing since he'd arrived and he had been here for days now. He'd informed his band that he expected to be away for a few, but if it turned in to 'several' they were likely to come looking for him.
At least if they found his body they could elect someone new!
Alas, he could do nothing more than groan boredly as time dragged on, it was looking more and more unlikely that the lion was ever going to encounter this herbalist. Suffice it to say, if he hadn't come so highly recommended the Captain would have left by now... but the Hlare had been adamant. If he truly wanted to solve the mystery, then he needed this herbalist's help...

Did he expect to be sought out?
No, not particularly. This was to be a rare occurrence for him. Those who needed him often knew how to find him or how to contact him and as a consequence, he wasn't caught by surprise. In fact, one could have gone so far as to say that the leopard often sought those who needed him out, rather than the other way round! However it seemed that today would go against the norm and he would be the subject of interest.
He had wandered idly down his favoured path, a relatively deserted gorge that was rarely utilised by feline kind. He had never quite uncovered why they had avoided this region, he had never been an anthropologist in that respect, but it did ensure he was left alone. The benefits to this were that he was often able to mull over his own discoveries, ponder his own hypotheses, and come to basic conclusions before he had conducted any tests.
...Today was not one of those days.
As the leopard rounded one of the sharper corners of the gorge he took note of the figure reclining ahead of him. He was not an individual that he recognised, but nor did he seem to pose any threat. Ah, but perhaps his route had been found and was now favoured by others too?
If the lion deemed to start a conversation he would have the manners to reply, but otherwise, he suspected he might be able to wander by with a brief, but courteous, nod of acknowledgement...

Lilac eyes? Check. Pale? Check. Distinct spots? Check.
Tethys perked up considerably as the leopard drew near, by his demeanour it was clear that he was older, but even if he had been in any doubt he moved just a touch slower than the sprightly adolescents. Oh Tethys wouldn't go so far as to say he was a cripple, but he certainly didn't make any effort to speed himself along. It was safe to say that Tethys was under the impression this leopard lived life at the pace he chose and very few could make him move any faster.
He envied him in a way...
Nevertheless the Captain drew in a breath as the gap was closed and cleared his throat. He was so well versed at stopping individuals to question them that at this point even the most awkward of questions would feel as natural as talking about the weather. Useful trait to have...if a touch disturbing, just as well he wasn't a salesman really.
"Afternoon," he began and tilted his head to the side.

He came to a stop, his brow raising as he was addressed. It was only when the white lion mentioned something familiar to him that he furrowed his brow. He hadn't visited the Bahari in quite some time, not since he had become satisfied that the new plants that had been installed during the tsunami had taken. To have them mentioned again was concerning, fortunately he was the logical sort and surmised that he may have simply been suggested as an appropriate contact for whatever this lion happened to require.
"I am," he replied slowly and drew to a halt. Setting his bag down carefully, he provided Tethys with the audience that he seemed to want. If the leopard were honest, he was rather curious as to what this was all about. He had taught the Hlare much of what he knew about the alchemical properties of the plants they found so what need could this lion possibly have of him?
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" he enquired after a few moments and tilted his head to the side. "I can safely say that it is not every day I am sought after, particular by those who were left well tended to when I departed..."Words: 207

"They said you could help me," Tethys cut to the chase. He had no idea if the leopard was one of those individuals who had no patience for time wasters and as a consequence, it was better to be succinct. He'd grab the opportunity by both claws in order just to be sure that he had a greater chance of receiving the assistance. Given that the leopard also had no idea who or what he was, was probably also advantageous...he had met a fair few individuals who had been somewhat wary of his intentions.
"I have an affliction that they have never seen, nor do they have any idea how to induce it," he continued and pursed his lips. "They said they might be able to get close, but even then, it wouldn't have the same effect as what I'm currently researching -" he paused momentarily.
"It's some sort of concoction that renders a creature completely obedient to the one who administers it," he explained. "I don't know how it's administered, all I know is that as soon as it's applied they can be led away without struggle," he furrowed his brow. "Some of the Hlare were under the impression that this might be hypnosis rather than herbal, but the others indicated you might know of something that causes it..."
He grimaced.
"While I have no desire to use it, I do have the need to find something that disrupts its effects... If that's even possible."
Another pause.

He had never heard of this before...hypnosis yes, but something induced by herbs?
...it wasn't something that was used widely in this region and he hadn't ever stumbled upon it in his travels. By the sounds of it, it was probably for the best that he hadn't. There were too many things that might have gone wrong for him if he had been caught unawares. Yet the lion was requesting his help and the Bahari had recommended him; given he rather enjoyed a good project, he could see not reason why he might not do some digging.
"I have never heard of it," he said finally, though he raised a paw at Tethys's look of disappointment. "However I have contacts, and if I query some of them I might be able to gain some leads on what this is," he clucked his tongue. Whether it was hypnosis or not was unknown, but there were probably herbal remedies that could disrupt it with enough testing. The first step in working out how best to combat such an affliction was to understand how it was even triggered in the first place.
"If you give me some time I may be able to uncover the information that you need, but I cannot guarantee when I will find it, is it pertinent?"
"The sooner you can get it the better," Tethys replied. "If you can get it..." he corrected. Otherwise they would have to take significantly more precautions in the coming months.
"I'll do what I can," the leopard confirmed and gave a nod. "Unfortunately I will not be able to deliver my findings to you directly given my itinerary, but I will leave what I discover with the Hlare..."
The leopard paused.
"All being well, you should have what you need," he added.
Tethys expressed his gratitude as the leopard rose to his feet and gave a nod of his head, one returned in kind by Raja. Suffice to say that while the leopard's encounter had been brief, it seemed he was willing to help. Perhaps it had been the mention of the Bahari that had solidified his interests, but for now, the Captain would need to wait and see whether or not the leopard could come through for him...Words: 377 Total Words (Raja): 845
