User ImageMaturity; Maturity was the ability to respond to the environment in a proper manner. Or at least that’s how it was defined in the dictionary. It puzzled Arinas at times. What really made a person mature? How could you tell if you had matured over time? Supposedly it was something that came with growing older. However people always made such a fuss about it, it had to be much more than just responsibility after all.

Arinas had known some adults that could be called far from mature, as if they had never grown up. He knew some children that were way more responsible than their years called for. Really Arinas thought one should be a bit of both. You should know how to be responsible but then you also had to know the time in which to be a bit silly.

It was something that took time to learn. A part of growing up in a large family he supposed. He remembered as a kid, he was almost afraid of everyone. It was hard making new friends. He was so insecure about himself, about his baking and the fact he had a dampened sense of taste. Then things changed. Suddenly there were more children in the household and he was the oldest. He had to start being a role model for them. Even if they weren’t blood related he wanted to set a good example.

So he noticed he was becoming more patient, more tolerable and he started to see himself in a different light. There was a confidence about him now. He took his job as big brother seriously. He wanted to make the adults in the house proud. Even more he wanted to make himself proud. So he’d keep finding that balance and see what maturity just was for himself.

He'd keep on bettering himself to be a responsible son, to be an acceptable older brother. However he'd also learn to balance it all out and remember that even if he was entering the adult world. Have fun as older brother, have fun with his passions. It was hard at times but Arinas was looking forward to it.
