Arseno sighed as he set the man down in the alleyway. Another day, another drain victim. So far he still kept himself from taking any starseeds. With all of his experiences so far, the attacks on the city with the Fall Festival and the poinsettias that his brother had been caught up in, he was starting to question why he was still in the Negaverse.

And after that, he had somehow gotten a promotion to captain. He still wasn’t sure why that had happened, and with his promotion came a greater feeling of dread that the Negaverse wasn’t the right faction to be in. But what choice did he have? But, there was a part of his mind that secretly liked what the Negaverse did, and that scared him.

The man slumped down a bit further and Arseno stared at him for a moment, a look of unconcern on his face. The man was dressed warmly enough, and the alleway wasn’t so bad in terms of temperature. And with that Arseno hopped back onto the roof and sighed, sticking his hands into his pockets, just trying to sort some of his thoughts out.

I really need to find a new meetup place besides "a roof" >_>

Leucite had needed a break away from his usual routine of reigning in two wayward Lieutenants and had given Stibnite the night off to relax and had decided to patrol a section of town he had not been to in some time. When he felt the aura of another chaos agent, he angled himself toward it, landing near the Captain as the other man landed on the roof.

It took him a moment to recognize the individual, as the last time he had seen the young man he'd been a lieutenant and not a captain, but the excitement and pride welled up in his chest all the same, and he let out a small, please laugh.

"Ah, Arsenopyrite! Congratulations on your promotion! How have you been?" he asked, moving closer and extending a congratulatory hand to shake.

Arseno thought he had recognized the aura of the general, but had still been a bit surprised at how quickly the man had come over. He blushed a bit at the praise, though he wasn't sure if that was from happiness or a feeling of dread.

Either way, he had jumped a bit when the general landed near him and he was lucky that he hadn't tripped turning around to face Leucite. He gave a small nod to the general. "I've been... okay." He couldn't really say much else. He had taken quite a large break from doing anything for the negaverse for a while and had been questioning himself still.

"Surprised I got the promotion. Still not sure if I deserve it though." He felt a bit guilty only talking about himself. "How are you? I'm sorry I've missed your latest classes." He wouldn't say because I've been feeling guilty about taking that starseed from that senshi and don't know if I can do this whole Negaverse thing though. He couldn't just up and admit that!

"Only okay? Well that's no good!" Leucite said with a genuine, genial smile that only began to slip when the question was directed at him. "Ah, well, let's just say that I have been having a bit of trouble with some unruly Lieutenants but that's neither here nor there. I've missed you at the classes by the way, you were a very good student!"

He clapped a hand on the other man's shoulder and gave him a general look over. "But I'm proud of you. You should take pride in your promotion! The Negaverse doesn't promote without reason."

He looked the other man over for a moment and clicked his tongue. "Is something troubling you?" The pause had caused him to wonder.

"Well lieutenants can be a handful." He had recently been one, he was sure that he had caused some himself. "I'll try to go to your next one. I learned a lot from them." Or at least the ones he had attended and actually done something at.

Arseno shrugged the hand-less shoulder a bit. "Yeah, I just don't know what the reason is for my promotion. I wish I knew." Though that hadn't been his only problem.

He wasn't sure if he should lay out everything that was bothering him to this man. He still wasn't sure if he should quite trust some of the others in the Negaverse. He decided to choose his words as carefully as possible. "Although I appreciate the conversation you gave me before I still don't think I'm the best... fit for all of this." Should he say he still wasn't sure if he should even be in the Negaverse still? "I haven't done that much and so far I've been a bit troubled by the attacks on the city recently, mostly the fall festival and winter poinsettia attacks." He wasn't sure if it was the Negaverse, but unless it was the Dark Mirror Court, then it definitely had to be the Negaverse.

"There were just some... people who were attacked that I was close too and felt guilty about being a participant of it." He wouldn't mention that those "people" were actually his brother.

"These two in particular are the definition of handful," Leucite smirked, shaking his head slowly. "But really, I'll get them in line one way or another." He grinned, squeezing Arseno's shoulder.

He grew quiet and listened, frowning a bit. "They didn't tell you? Well that's unfortunate. I'm sure it was for being dutiful to your duties and being a productive agent... Trust me, if you'd been one of mine I'd of ensured you'd known why you were being promoted." Leucite said, sounding more than a bit off put.

The next part had his face turn even more pensive, and his grip loosened on the shoulder, giving it another gentle pat.

"Yes, those attacks were rather odd, and as far as I know, none of our doing. At least if it was I wasn't informed of any operations at the time." He said, his face growing concerned. "In fact I'm sure a few of our own were caught in those particular attacks. There are more than just us and the White Moon out and about, Arsenopyrite, be mindful of that." He gave the man a small smile.

"You shouldn't feel guilty for things that we didn't do, it's no good for you." He said with another squeeze of his shoulder. "Trust me, I know a thing or two about guilt, have had my fair share of it..." He said as he lifted up the Rosary. "It took quite a bit of soul searching to quell it as well... But I finally came to terms that the Negaverse was better than the alternative."

Well, Leucite said he didn't know about the attacks, however that could just mean that the Negaverse hadn't informed him what was happening. Arseno found it a bit hilarious that their own agents would be targeted. Didn't that mean that the Negaverse didn't really care about them? And he believed some of them did deserve it. They had a few serial killers in their group after all.

"It was some close friends of mine though. I can't imagine who else would be behind the attack and visiting them in the hospital..." He sighed looking towards the ground, remembering how his brother looked in that hospital bed after the bat attack. "The only way I wouldn't feel guilty is if I could get them out of here. But they refuse. I'm not sure how I can protect them if I can't even power up to save them from these types of attacks."

He turned his gaze back to the general. "I just don't know if the Negaverse is better than the alternative. I mean, how is it better? We hurt so many people... I... hurt someone. I took a starseed." He admitted it, and he wasn't sure how Leucite would react. But Arseno couldn't get his mind off of it. "I'm just... not sure if I can do this."

Leucite listened to Arsenopyrite speak staying quiet the whole time. When the other man expressed his lack in surety of being able to handle what was going on with the war, Leucite turned fully to face him and placed both of his hands on his shoulders.

"Arsenopyrite," He said, keeping his voice calm, and comforting. "It is okay to feel guilty about taking the life of another. Taking starseeds isn't easy, there was a very long time when even I felt like I wasn't doing the right thing. But trust me, the alternative - letting the white moon win - would be so far worse. Do you want to see those you care about and love crushed under the heel of White Moon tyranny?"

He thought for a moment. "Arsenopyrite, I'd like to make you an offer." He said, nodding his head. "Allow me to take you under my wing, work with me at the Training Corps as a Captain. When you feel ready I'll even see to it that you have Lieutenants to oversee, but at your pace." He said with a smile. "You are a valued member of the Negaverse, and I promise if you work with me, we will find where you fit into this organization. Not all of us are soldiers, son! I'm friends with a Doctor and he's one of us. Sure we have quotas for energy and all that but that's easy enough right?" He said with a smile, squeezing his shoulders.

"Tell me about pulling your first starseed. What happened. Walk me through it, let's see if this guilt is justified." He said, finally, voice soft.

Arseno felt a bit better, apparently he wasn't the only one who had trouble coming to grips with taking starseeds. That didn't lessen the guilt though. He wanted to get rid of it, but how?

He could tell that Leucite was passionate about the White Moon being the 'bad guys'. But... "That's just it though, no one has tole me anything about how the White Moon is doing that IS so horrible. And I haven't had enough experience against them to even form my own opinion of them." The experiences he had had though weren't even that remarkable other than a couple of fights and some talking.

His eyes widened at Leucite's offer. "What?" He couldn't believe it. "I... I think I would be more of a burden teaching at the Training Corps more than anything. I just don't have the fighting experience yet. I appreciate the offer and wish I could accept it. I just don't think that I would be good enough for it though."

If Leucite could help him find his place though... "But, if you think it will help me find my place, I will follow you." He felt grateful for the chance at least.

He frowned, not really wanting to remember killing the senshi. "It wasn't anything... that could be justified at least. I was just trying to take energy and the senshi just wouldn't let up!" He had gotten so annoyed at the senshi. "I was just got so worked up that eventually I just took it." And that was it. Nothing amazing.

"Would you like to live in a world where you have no freedom, Arsenopyrite? Where the senshi rule over all and we must bow to their whims? Because that is the only future the White Moon offers us - a kingdom - total tyranny. No freedoms to be ourselves, only serving our alien masters. Is that a world you think you could feel comfortable and belong in, Arsenopyrite?" Leucite said with a small, paternal smile. "No right to live how we chose as we do now? Only to serve those who view themselves our better purely because they wield the magic of planets? Hardly seems fair don't you think?"

He patted the young man's shoulders with both hands, watching him for a long moment, listening to him speak and reply to his offer. He bowed his head respectfully and smiled. "The offer stands, but I will happily mentor you without you needing to worry about serving directly in the Training Corps itself. I understand that you have your duties. I simply wish to give you all the help you need to excel and prove yourself the wonderful officer I know you can be. We will find where you belong in this organization Arsenopyrite. We will find where your talents will truly turn the tide."

His face fell a bit at the young man's final statement and once again he squeezed the man's shoulder's. "You were being attacked, doing your honest duty as any of us would do. You struck in self-defense, no one can fault you that. This is a war, and there will be casualties. Killing is not easy for some. The fact that you feel this guilt is a testament to your morality. I commend that."

His grip grew a bit harder, not painful, but more firm. "But understand Arsenopyrite - this is a war. You were entirely justified in your actions. You took that senshi's life because they attacked you - they would have taken yours if you had not taken theirs. Don't think for a second that they would not have turned on you the minute you turned your back on them. They came into Negaspace and attacked us in force. They caused untold damage and almost killed an entire barracks of our wounded by setting it aflame. These are the types of monsters we face, Arsenopyrite. Terrorists who would let people burn to death, perish horrible, choking deaths and be consumed by fire. For all you know you killed one of the ones who sought such a result in the first place!" His voice was firm, almost on fire in its own right in it's angry fervor.

"They will come to you with honey and lies - try to convince you that their way is just and right - but look at their ACTIONS - look at what they are willing to stoop to to try and defeat us! It seems more and more of them appear every day, while we try to retain our own ranks and keep our people healthy and whole. I don't know how many they lost in the attack against us - but I can tell you I'm sure they've more than recovered it. That is the foe we face, Arsenopyrite. An alien force that will happily throw its own people into the grinder to ensure victory without thought or weighing their options. Truly, do you think that you are so unjustified in what you did? Deep down-"

Leucite moved a hand, tapping the young man hard in the chest over his heart. "-deep down, do you really think that you were wrong to kill that Senshi? Think Arsenopyrite. Really think. If it was you or them - because that is what it was - is it not better that you are alive? You are alive to do more good for this world. While they are gone, and will light no more fires."

Arseno understood Leucite's words, but... "I'm just not sure if the Negaverse would still allow that freedom. We already have to take energy or risk being disciplined for it." He replied, a bit quietly. Now neither side was really looking that good. However, Leucite's words were turning him a bit. Certainly they did have quite a bit of freedom right now, especially considering how much influence the Negaverse had already. And usually in kingdoms the subject had to follow the Royal's wills.

He was feeling a bit better though. "I would like to take you up on your offer if you believe I'll be of help. I don't want to disappoint you." And he didn't. Although he wouldn't know what the outcome would be if there was failure under Leucite, he was the only general who had really talked to him about all of this, or at least had gotten him to stay so far.

"It was just... surprising. I haven't battles a senshi or knight so far that had wanted to kill me and yet this one... I couldn't believe it. I had never felt anything like that before and the fear from it." He was surprised at Leucite's words. "I didn't know they had done anything like that. I had heard about it, going to school here, but I never even thought that they were behind it." He had seen the news stories, but if anything after entering the Negaverse he thought that his side might have been behind it. Hearing that it was the White Moon though that was just as willing to kill so many people in such a horrible way...

He thought about it, really thought about it. "I guess... no. No I don't believe I was wrong. If they're willing to go to such lengths, then we must do what we can." He doubted that senshi and agents were the only ones that were hurt. His eyes hardened. "I would like to help you as much as possible General Leucite."

I did enjoy it biggrin

"I'm not saying that the Negaverse is perfect, far from it, we have our flaws - there are rules to follow and quotas to be met but is that any different from any other governance? Does not the state ask for taxes to be paid? Our way is no different, hell, I'd argue it's better, a good night's sleep will recover anyone we energy drain for the most part... And I personally only pull starseeds from those the law chooses to let go unpunished for their crimes, so in a way I help clean up the streets." Leucite stated plainly, smiling as he slowly placed his hands back behind his back.

"Good, if you're willing to work with me as a Captain, then I will do my best to ensure that your needs are met and that your skills are honed into the direction of where you would be best suited for the Negaverse. Have you given any thought to what branch you would like to join?"

He turned his head then to look out over the city. "My goal is to have you find a place that you feel you belong in this organization Aresonpyrite. I promise you, by years end, we will find you a posting that best suits your talents."

What Laurelite was saying did make sense. At least they wouldn't be under the rule of the monarchy, and if they just followed the rules, everything should be fine, right? And it seemed that he didn't have to take a ton of Starseeds, he could continue to drain energy as much as he wanted to. Though Arseno still wasn't one to believe in the death penalty. But he had been wondering if there was a better way to take starseeds out without killing someone. It had been done before after all... But if they did just take starseeds, soon enough there wouldn't be any left. Better to just go for the energy.

"I'd be glad to work with you." He still wasn't sure what branch he wanted to really be in yet though. "I'm thinking General Operations or Infiltration. Though I do want to be a doctor, so I'm not sure if I would be the right fit for Infiltration, but the number of times fellow agents have tried to take my starseed after I had joined... well, it's enough to make me think I at least have the face for it." Apparently he was tricking them well enough to the point of almost being killed several times.

He smirked at the general, even if it couldn't be seen. "Well General, I hope that we'll be able to do that then." However, it was at that moment that his cell phone rang and he almost yelled out a cursed, but instead kept it in his head. "Unfortunately, it seems I have to go. I'm sorry for my sudden leave, but I have to take this call." And he was not going to go and take a call in front of the general. "Thank you... really. This talk was very insightful and I hope that I can start to work with you soon." And with that, he bowed and went off, knowing that his little brother would be worried that he had missed his call.

Torvil
Sorry for suddenly ending it like that. If you want to do another post that's fine. We can always continue this later, right? I just thought it was getting a little long sweatdrop

At Arsenopyrite's insistence on taking the call Leucite simply smiled and bowed his head politely. "By all means, Arsenopyrite, you know where my office is, we can speak there later."

He would not hold the young man's personal needs against him - after all, he had once been just as skittish himself, probably more so. Though he might speak with Arseonpyrite about the wisdom of taking his own phone out on patrols, and suggest investing in a prepaid phone instead, if only for the sake of his identity should he ever be captured or incapacitated.

But that was neither here nor there at the moment, and as the Captain took his leave, Leucite's mind wandered back to searching out auras, to continue his patrol for the evening.
