Somehow, miraculously, the last year had managed to roll by relatively quietly. There had been no near death experiences, no tragedies befalling the island, and more shocking still, no personal disasters. It was down right suspicious, and as the new year had started, the dainty Sun was beginning to grow down right suspicious of all the peace. Especially concerning a certain Andrew Miller, and his continued presence in her life. She would have said it made no sense, but the trainee was determined, read her well, and had not yet been exposed to the absolute worst the young woman had to offer. So, like any normal person finding themselves in a similar situation, Peyton had to push things a bit. Pick and proud. To be fair, Andy had been allowed to see far more of Peyton's inner demons than Noah had ever been trusted with, and so far the blonde hadn't gone running for the hills. It was a promising sign that he could probably handle more. Probably. And it wasn't like the girl was aiming to drive him away. She'd come to terms, mostly with the fact that he had very strong feelings for her, and she shared a fair few of those for him, but she didn't like hiding things from him. She didn't like having to pretend, or hold back, or keep him in the dark. If she really cared about him(and she did, more than she liked to admit), than she wanted to trust him. She wanted to be herself around him, and not have to worry about him looking at her with frightened, or disgusted eyes. So today she was taking a chance. Sharing with him something she'd always down played. Though that would also serve a duel purpose. If he was going to be with her, back her up on missions, she needed to know that he would do what was necessary to survive. She'd asked him to meet her on the training field, despite the lingering cold and the snow.

Without really knowing how lucky he was, or how rare it was for Deus to have such an easy time, Andy celebrated the starting of a new year with his island family. He enjoyed thoroughly the time he got to spend with Jordan, with Gale, with Peyton...enjoyed the starting of the now traditional Taco Tuesdays. Enjoyed his training sessions, missions, and off times. Andrew Miller was quite happy with how his life was going. Peyton had Issues, but didn't everyone? And he loved her anyway, loved all of her that she'd show him because it all mixed together to make the woman he'd fallen a**-over-tea kettle for. Sometimes he had to think about things, take a day or so to contemplate the new parts of Peyton that were exposed, but he never avoided her and always came through with the same determination: he loved her. She'd called him out to the training field, and he came a few minutes early, dressed for the chill and ready to fight. He had absolutely no idea what they'd be doing, but he trusted her implicitly. "Hello beautiful."

Likewise, the petite hunter was dressed appropriately for the weather. For the most part. Thick, fleece lined leggings, calf high laced boots, and a thick hoody. There were more layers beneath that, the girl loved her layers, but for the moment they were unseen. Her hair, now reaching ridiculous lengths, had been braided, and then wrapped up and pinned at the back of her head, safely out of the way. When he called to her it made her turn, glancing back to watch him walking towards her, and she couldn't help the small tug of her lips in a flicker of a smile. "Hey." She was still a sucker for compliments. Especially sincere ones. "We're going to do something difficult today." More of a challenge for him, than for her, but regardless. "You've taken it upon yourself to act the part of a moon when we're on missions together, and I can't stop you." She'd tried, he hadn't listened. "But I also can't be worrying about you." Which was absolutely impossible, but she didn't say that bit out loud. "I need to know that you can handle yourself." At this point she'd hold a hand up to cut off any protest that might have followed. "Not just against an enemy either, because that's not the only danger." Here she would pause, lips pursing before she'd draw in a deep breath and let it out slowly through her nose. "You've heard about the Red-eye, I know you've heard me talk about it here and there, but I've always been pretty tight lipped about it, or my connection with it." The hand she'd held up fell back to her side. "I'm infected by it, I have been for longer than you've known me, and that makes it very easy for me to fall under it's influence again in certain situations. If that happens, I...It's like going berserk, sort of. Like you have these blinders on, and you can't tell friend for foe anymore, and you can't stop." She frowned, watching his features as this all sank in. "I need to know that if that happens, I can count on you to defend yourself, and to do what needs doing to incapacity me, because that's the only way to get me to stop."

Peyton looked cosy and inviting, but despite her smile of welcome and how much Andy wanted to crush her to his chest...she'd called him out for something serious and he needed to respect that. Her words upped the apprehension sliding through his veins and made his mouth go somewhat dry. Just how difficult was this thing she wanted done? And why? But he listened and took her critique of his performance on missions in hand - if Peyton said it, he should accept it and make it work for his team. It was good that she held up a hand to keep his mouth shut, because while he understood that he played it a bit defensively on missions, he also went right in, shotgun blazing. It was unfair that she felt she had to worry about him on a mission - But is she really wrong? Pey's a decorated hunter, specialized in combat even. I'm still basically a newb grunt.Andy was distracted from ruminating by Peyton saying that enemies weren't the only danger. She had his full and complete attention. Red-eye infection? Holy s**t. First he showed surprise, then concern with brows drawn together and mouth set somewhere between a worry and determination. She was baring her soul to him, showing a weakness that she only had control over under specific circumstances...he would not let her down. It didn't matter that she was infected, she was still Peyton. "Pey, you can count on me." The rangy trainee's features rearranged into what he hoped was a reassuring expression. Rex whined sadly within Andy's mind, not liking the way his Boy was feeling at the idea of knocking Peyton out. "You wanted to train today to see if I could manage doing that for you, right?"

At the end of her little speech Peyton had gone quiet, watching and waiting for Andy's reaction to the news of her infect. She had been fairly certain that he wouldn't run screaming for the hills, but not positive, and it had been that small, niggling doubt that had kept her from bringing this up before now. Even if a part of her had been tempted to blurt it out time and time again, just to keep him from getting too close to her. Welp, too late now. As he responded a tension in her shoulders she hadn't even realized she'd been carrying loosened a bit, and she did another of those slow, careful breaths. The smile she'd been wearing when he'd first arrived started to return. "That's right." She sounded relieved. "It's better we find out now, here where it's safe, than having it sprung on us out in the field with no wards to keep us from getting too hurt, or support in a worst case scenario."
