Name: Fehral Age: 19 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Homosexual Craft: N/A Rank: Candidate Location: High Reaches Weyr Physical Description: Fehral is tall, with jet black hair that he shaves short on one side, just short of a buzz cut, and keeps long on the other. He has inquisitive blue eyes that are often full of laughter, a long nose, and a wry smile. He's very physically fit, owing to a life of hard labor and even harder play. Personality: Simply put, Fehral is a friendly guy. He's fairly easy going, with a decent sense of humor and an abundance of mischief. He's had a hard lot, but somehow has managed to maintain a personal buoyancy throughout, perhaps because he takes such for granted. Pern isn't a nice place when you get to the bottom of the rung, and that's exactly where he figures he belongs. He's a little brighter than he lets on, but not exactly well educated. He never claimed to be brilliant, and he never will. Nothing wrong with being ordinary. Nabol's not a good place to stick out, any road, so he keeps his head down, keeps his temper even, and keeps a smile on his face. History: Born in the slums of Nabol to a pair of riders of the worst sort, Fehral never really had a chance. Much like any of the other kids whose parents were somehow indebted to Lord Gansley, he never saw an extra quarter marker, or had much time to himself. He was working as soon as he could walk, shifting the rocks for the Holder, being a little too large to easily slip into the mines. That constant work over Turns kept him strong, and his parents' position as guard riders kept food on the table... most of the time. He was a scrapper from day one, sticking up for the littlest of the littles, and playing his dumb act to keep out of trouble.
It worked out, for the most part. His mother and father were loose cannons, his father especially, and it was to no one's surprise when the latter went missing. His mother was inconsolable, and turned to drinking and gambling to dull away the pain. She was a fighter, and the fight never truly left her, even when she lost the man that she'd loved. They were sketchy people from a sketchy place, but even so they'd been everything to each other. Their little world had consisted of the two of them, with their small child hovering somewhere in the background. Not that they were awful parents. Just... not the most attentive. With his father dead, all of his mother's attentions when she was around were focused on him which threw him for a loop.
Rather than being grateful for the attention, he was somewhat standoffish, which only made her angry. Angering his mother probably wasn't the best idea, as he came to find. Things were getting pretty untenable when Thread began to fall again, and he was probably the only person in the area that took such with a sense of relief. It changed his life completely, granted, but suddenly his mother had a whole new purpose. She signed up to fight for the Hold, and he never really saw much of her after that. Given her instability, he figures there will probably come a day when she never returns. ... And maybe he'll regret keeping his distance. He doesn't know.
With the onslaught of Thread, he knew what he was signing up for when a dragon picked him out from the crowd, but he went willingly enough. Who wouldn't want to escape Nabol? Since then it's been, for him, nothing but clear skies and three square meals. He even got some new clothes, and his very own cot to sleep in. Who could ask for more? The chores were the least he could do to repay his debt of gratitude to High Reaches Weyr, when they'd given him everything... and asked for so little. It is now his hope to become a rider quite unlike his own parents, and to Impress his very own best friend. Who knows? Maybe the dragons will see something in him that he doesn't see himself. Other: Nothing much... he does know how to fight and has a small collection of rocks that he's picked up over the Turns. Along with a myriad of piercings.
