It wasn't too big of a stretch of the imagination for Joy to assume that if there was any place unusually warm at Camp, it would be the kitchen. And what did you know she was right! America wasn't kidding that the camp had better chow than the island and it almost made Joy consider getting left behind.Almost.
For now, she set about looking at the menu they had to work with and while she didn't normally mind working in the kitchen (with the glorious glorious heat) or wearing a hairnet (dumb as it made her look), there was a lot of food to prepare. She can't be the only one who was going to do the work, can she?

The beast performed a typical belly-laugh as if he said something sidesplitting. The petite Death huffed quite unhappily and struck back proudly, "I didn't last time, Cami said I did well." Still, she was thinking about it, whoever dared to arrange her to kitchen duties ought to be someone not knowing her enough. "They tasted well too."
Shu didn't forget how that hunter gave her a lazy glance, like she wasn't capable to do anything before shoving her a kid's apron. Well, without her intermediate hunter coat, she must look like a trainee, she knew she had that kind of innocence face. Anyway, the apron seemed to be a bit off-size, she was busily adjusting it while stepping into the kitchen. A joyful smile bloomed when her eyes met with another hunter. "Joy! Long time no see~" Then she swiftly remembered she owed her a spar.
The Asian looked around at the stacks of unprepared ingredients, from bags of flour, baskets of veggetables, to loads of different meats. Wait a minute - she scanned the spacious kitchen and didn't see anyone else. "Just the two of us?" She might have raised her voice in surprise.

"Uuuuuy, it's Shu!" Joy happily said when she saw the familiar Hunter Shu. It was nice to see someone from what seemed like ages ago, those days when she was just a freshly hatched trainee. Well, Joy was still a trainee but she wasn't so fresh anymore. Joy was still cheerful and optimistic in nature, as if nothing could get her down, and she was intent on maintaining this image of herself. Also, Joy really missed being taller than someone. She always seemed to end up with the giants on base and while she knew objectively that she was average, having grown up as the "tall one" back home that perspective was hard to shake off. So she was extra glad that she would be working with Shu, "Ewan if it really is going to be just the two of us. We could bring this issue up with America, but in some not obvs ways because no one likes tattletellers." Joy handed the shorter hunter an extra hairnet, "Here, we gotta make sure we're hygienic. And while we wait for the others to show up, why don't you tell me what you've been doing." Meegane We can hand-wave NPC hunters coming in later XD

It was great to see a cheerful face, Joy was someone who wasn't too close or too far away from her. Shu felt herself in a confortable zone and beamed even brighter with an unspoken reply of yes, that's me. Knowing someone who would skip duties because he wanted to sleep more, Shu wasn't so upset or suprised. "Um, they might show up later." The petite Death wished not bothered the redhead for such a small problem, the hunter seemed she was fully occupied already. Before starting her work, she tied her long hair into a ponytail so that the hairnet fitted in easier and she clipped her bangs up with some bobbin pins. In fact, the Asian was not used to wearing hairnet, it made her slightly uncomfortable. When asked, she drawled with a pondering noise. "Nothing much, just daily tasks, external missions and -" she paused and added, "working as a part-time in Beijing branch most of the time." Her pouty face might suggest it wasn't something fun to talk with but she lit up again at Joy. "How about you? Anything big happen when I'm off the island?" The Beijing branch held a prejudice to the headquarter and it was tiring to work between two places. She didn't have time to check on twitter until recently when things began to smooth out. Shu looked down at the long platform and sought for something like a menu or list. There was nothing, strange. Improvising? She arched an eyebrow in reflex, she was only, can be said, good at making pancakes. "Er, Joy? Do you see something like today's menu around?" If not, the hunters were going to enjoy a hearty pancake buffet.

That made sense, Joy guessed not everyone was in search of heat and warmth as she was. She listened to Shu talk, nodding as the shorter hunter gave her a quick run-down of what she'd been up to and Joy's interest perked up at the mention of a branch. "Eh, same same. Mostly got stuck with off-island duties, babysitting portals and junk." She tried to think of anything even remotely interesting to share but came up with a blank.
"Only big thing I can think of is the jungle mission and that was kind of a fail." Not only did they not get anything from the Jungle but their camp was trashed by that giant-a** creature thing.
At the mention of menu, Joy pulled out the list she was looking at. "Here, most of them are easy enough to make. Soup and some meat dishes. Which one you wanna tackle?"

Shu partially paid attention as Joy talked, partially focused on her search for instructions. She just paused at the mention of jungle mission briefly and walked towards Joy when she had the list on hand. "I don't know how to cook actually, I can assist you though." It was not a complete lie since she always made a mess despite of being taught by her sisters. "Anyway, tell me more about the jungle mission." Shu requested, took a basket of potatoes and began to peel them idly.

Joy was never so grateful for Home Economics class back in High School because at least she understood the instructions in the recipes. "Hey no prob, cooking's a helluva lot easier than baking! Just follow my lead and worse comes to worse, we eat our failures." She said with a wink, and slung an arm around Shu's shoulder to give her an encouraging hug before heading to what she assumed was the Camp's pantry.
"The jungle mission? Hmm, not sure what I can tell. I think we were there to retrieving something but we came back empty handed." Joy wasn't sure what became of Sammy but she didn't think that was something she ought to be sharing. "I do know that one of us got kidnapped by the horsemen. Oh! And me and my patrol buddy were able to capture a horseman!" Joy was ridiculously proud of this achievement, even if Sammy and Jason did most of the work.

Shu gave her partner a relieving smile and a cheerful giggle when failure was mentioned. "Roger," the petite Death saluted at Joy and followed her in like a little subordinate. The little hands working on the dough paused hearing someone was taken by the horsemen. "Oh no, is he/ she alright then?" While asking, she decided to check the associated reports later. Her rank should give her that power. "That's great, Joy!" Her eyes sparkled with admiration, knowing how difficult it was to handle those hostile species. The hands covered in flour clapped enthusiastically, dragging a white powdered mist along with her. "They're a lot to deal with, I wanted to befriend with a conquest one in the past but she shot arrows at me." Shu's face puffed in dismay as her hands resumed the kneading motion.

Joy was cutting vegetable for the soup and opened her mouth to assure Shu that they did rescue the hunter that had been kidnapped. Then it occurred to her that she never really got confirmation about the rescue. "I uh don't know. I never even learned who it was that got kidnapped." She admitted with some shame. Come to think of it, she never really bothered to find out.
"I got a lot of help with that Horseman capture and mostly just made sure we weren't getting creamed." She conveniently left out the part that Sammy was the one to delivery the finishing blow. "Dunno what happened to her though. Rep handled that bit."
She grimaced at the mention of getting shot at, "I haven't met a Horseman that didn't want our head on a platter."

The concern in her eyes faded away once Joy guranteed the kidnapped person was alright. The dough being kneaded again and again gradually became smooth enough. Thus Shu rolled it into a ball shape, wrapped it and let it rest inside refridgerator for an hour. "Rep is awesome! I like him." The petite Death exclaimed, it wasn't hard to read the admiration towards the full hunter despite the drama usually put on twitter. "It's always better to have partners in mission, so that we can take care of each other." Nodding herself, Shu wondered what she could do next. Joy's comment on the horseman encountered a hesistated reply, "But they look amazing, there might be some friendly one, right?" She wistfully sighed with hope. "Anyway, have you tried this Ravioli soup in restaurant before?" Seeing the italian dumpling on television was much different than making it by herself, to be honest, even with a well-written recipe. "Do you think we have this Ricotta cheese here?" Shu looked at another huntress, who she believed knowing much more.

Joy nodded in agreement about Rep. Sure the man had some issues that he was maybe unintentionally broadcasting over on twitter but when it came down to it, the big hunter never gave Joy reason to doubt her safety around him. "Yeah, having buddies on things is definitely a must-have. Learning that the hard way is tough though." Joy didn't know what she would have done had she been the one kidnapped. She didn't think anyone would notice her disappearance but before any sort of self-deprecating train of thought could pull into the junction, Shu thankfully derailed it.
"Rico-what now? Only Rico I know is Rico Yan and he's a dead actor."

Joy's consent made Shu chirpy, it would be complicated to explain the awesomeness of the Pre-Sun Death hunter since impression is sometimes inscrutable. The petite Asian was stubborn on her feeling and nobody can easily shake it. "Hard but actually valuable, as long as own life isn't sevrely threatened." They all learned their lessons, no matter what they were, in a hard way sooner or later. Everyone. "Nonono, not a person, cheese," she startled and shook her head, "Ri-co-tta CHEESE." She tried to say it in a slow pace and streesed on the food material she mentioned. Shu, in addition, took the list to Joy's eye level, tip-toed and pointed her finger towards the writing. "See here? Ricotta chesse, the ingredients for making the fillings."

The only cheese Joy knew on a personal basis was the kind you spread on bread that was probably processed to the point it was more of a cheese-like sauce. "Uhhh, that sounds way too fancy-schmancy an ingredient for my knowledge. Maybe we can take a quick survey on twitter?" Joy suggested, "Meanwhile, imma go into the pantry, try to see what sort of cheese they do got here. If it's in the recipe and they don't got the actual thing, mebbe they gots a substitute?"Meegane We can probably wrap up soon. Sorry this took a while to reply x.x

"Twitter......" The petite Death mused. She wasn't sure if there were anyone from Italy, but still gave Joy a nod. She used her phone to search, and luckily she found it. Creamy white in appearance, slightly sweet in taste. It's an Italian whey cheese made from sheep, cow, goat, or Italian water buffalo milk whey left over from the production of cheese. Thinking it shouldn't be difficult to find a substitute, she prepared other ingredients first.

There were some blocks of cheese in the pantry and as far as Joy was concerned, one was as good as the others. So what if cheddar tended to be sharp rather than sweet and hard instead of creamy.
"This is all the pantry's got. Think you can use that?" she asked Shu.Meegane also after the Dwight mission, can has spar again? 8D
