Quartz was drawing. Maybe it wasn't the best thing to do. Lots of kids were crying. Some were clinging to adults. Some were going around trying to reassure the crying kids. Some were trying to help out how they could. And Quartz was drawing. She couldn't help it. With all the chaos going on above and no way of knowing what was happening, drawing was helping Quartz to keep calm. She'd had no idea so many big rooms existed under the school. She wanted to sketch their likeness, because brown and gold mama would surely love to see this place...

Quartz felt her lower lip trembling slightly, but resolutely turned her thoughts away from her missing parents. They'd be okay. Brown and gold mama was an explorer and told all kinds of stories about her adventures. Quartz would make sketches from the descriptions, and wish she'd been there to see the things in person. Red mama was smart, and always saw to the heart of a problem. Quartz really wished they were here. Even having her familiars would have been nice, but they were at home.

She sighed, and turned her attention to her drawing. She wanted to get the details just right. Drawing always calmed her down. She knew that was what she was going to do when she got older, though she was still vague on what that would entail. Brown and gold mama had gone into detail on a few options. Since Quartz's style was realistic she could do illustrations for books. She could be a sketch artist for law enforcement. Maybe she could go into design. Quartz frowned as she added a little shading to her drawing. The problem was she was still pretty limited. She had a style, but unless she branched out and tried to do more things then her choices would be equally limited. Except when creating new concepts or sketching from someone else's memory, there was much she could do with her current style that a camera couldn't capture quicker and more accurately.

So she wanted to be an artist, but what kind of artist? She needed to work on different styles, practice drawing other things. Who knew, maybe she'd discover a hidden talent. She greatly enjoyed drawing what she observed, which had given her a pretty good head for proportions. Perhaps she could try to create her own settings next. She didn't think she's be any good with clothing, but designing buildings might be fun. That might entail more than just art though.

Quartz hadn't really tried to foster any other skills besides art until now. Another thought that appealed was making pictures for books. In her opinion all books could benefit from more pictures, not just children's books. Did she have any talent for writing? Well her junior years were coming up, perhaps she should take some classes and find out. Lacking any talent of her own, perhaps she could find a friend and team up with them.

So as chaos reigned above and worry regined below, Quartz continued to sketch and plan for a future she hoped could still happen.
