"Psst."
If Melvin turned around, he'd see, just at the cusp of where the hallway of the Life Labs ended, a strange man wearing an extremely incognito Star Wars pilot hoodie. He could have been in any division, even Life, if it weren't for the fact that he was Mark.
Mark was giving Melvin the shifty eyes. "Hey kid, you wanna make some good money?"

Melvin was a bit tired from various embarassing testing down in the Life labs after his shift in the Runic department, and was heading off to get something to eat when he heard a whisper down the hallway.
This can't be good.
Turning, he looked down at a figure dressed in some Star Wars thing and he instantly made a face, the inner Trekkie in him curling inwardly. No doubt as he moved in closer he saw it was Mark, because who else could look that much of a run-down shell of a person.
What I wouldn't give to just have one day to clean that mess up.
Sighing, he heard the offer and stopped his first instinct to say no. No because being whispered at in the life labs to do something for cash that wasn't just demanded of you as a mission or posted for someone to sign up for meant it was something that was to the books. However, since his breakup with Lawr who he shared his accounts with, he was very, pathetically broke. Payments from runicing wouldn't come in soon enough and he really needed money.
"Doing what, Mark." He asked as he walked closer. "And I'm not a kid. I'm sure you've read my file."

"Why?" Mark started, opening his phone app, "Is your file funny or something?" he paused halfway, looked at the phone, scrolled a bit reading something, looked at Melvin, looked at his phone again, and then back at Melvin.
"Five hundred bucks and I'll clear it."
Was that even allowed?

"I don't have any cash." He said honestly back to him. "If you are hitting people up to make money, do you think that same person would HAVE money?" He then poked his head three times for Mark to think about it.
"Why are you here in the back end of the labs?" And because he was a bit curious. "And what is worth $500 dollars to even remove? Seems a bit steep."

Mark leaned casually against the wall, putting his phone away. "Uh yeah, exactly. I give you money for a favour and you give me it back for a favour. Everyone wins."
Wait winning wh- "So anyway can you grab some really simple stuff for me? Two special runic extension cords, this weird welder thing in lab C - you cant miss it- and two Mars bars from the fridge would be cool too, I dunno who keeps them there but I mean why not right?"

Melvin rubbed his temple and took a breath.
"What kind of runic extension chords? We had different kinds and lengths and it all depends what kind of outlets you need. And if that's the only welder in that lab that isn't being used right that moment, then it's possible. But before I play fetch - how do I know that the payment for this favor even dents the payment for the favor for me? Also, you just glanced at your phone. My file could be just fine and you are making up that there is something to clear. I could bring out my phone .." To which Melivn jerked out his phone. "...and say I have pictures of you from the third floor janitor's closet."
He wasn't just going to fetch things for Mark for the hell of it or for a penny.

"Bro," Mark didn't look phased at all from Melvin's haggling, "you're literally dead."
To prove his point, the Death Assistant pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and showed Melvin's information in the Hunter database which currently read:DEUS LOG ID 11735 Melvin WoodStatus: Deceased Extra notes: An auction is currently being held for his belongings on Jan 10th, 2017 at 1pm

Melvin leaned in and read the screen. Then he read it again. A twitch came to the corner of his mouth before he stood straight and just laughed.
"WHAT?! You have got to be - do they - All my stuff is at Lawr's place!" He laughed again, trying to imagine a group of techs coming to take what MIGHT look like Melvin's and probably taking half the house. Considering he let Lawr use their money to pick everything, very little was owned just by him.
And then he went quiet, staring straight at Mark. "That's........perfect."

The Death assistant raised an eyebrow as all alarms went off on his head. "That's... great," he ventured as soon as he realized Melvin was one of those kind of Hunters, "you know what let's just pretend we, err, never had this convo, good luck with your deadness and stuff okay?"
He began to back away very slowly.

Melvin moved and grabbed Mark's arm. "Oh no, no, no. Where are you going? Where are they confiscating my things, Mark? And HOW did they think I died?"
He held the arm and patted it slowly. "Come on now. Wouldn't want a dead guy to break a welder and leave it in your office, would you?"

"Bro," the Death assistant was so used to blackmail it didn't even phase him, "nothing is worth whatever drama you want to drag me into, not even five hundred bucks, which since you're dead you wouldn't even like get paid monthly anymore."
He paused. "This isn't even about your death I mean think about me, how do you think I feel getting dragged into whatever this is?"

His grip held and then loosened before Melvin released him. He really had nothing, and even less to blackmail anyone with. Maybe if he was more spiteful or invested more time in trying to get dirt on people, his life might be a tad bit better at Deus.
"True......Just really wanted to get back at my ex." VERY BADLY. Sure, it was completely petty, but he was so low that petty wasn't looking that bad to him these days. This was even more true after spending time being poked and jabbed in the life labs for what he caught from Lawr. It only seemed fair he took something back - or let other people take it back.
"So are you not dragging me into something by collecting this stuff for you? Why else are you sneaking around?" He said, resuming the conversation with a lot less interest and gusto as before now that some glimmer of retaliation was dashed all too soon.
Crossing his arms, he leaned back against the wall where Mark was hiding, and looked up and around wondering if the reason why Mark was in this hallway was because there wasn't any security.

"Your ex - not the dead one?" Apparently the Death assistant knew about that but lacked ant actual sensitivity to the situation. "Do you still like have her other arm or something, well I mean like she's actually dead dead not sorta dead like you."
He paused and pursed his lips, thinking. "You didn't happen to piss off a guy called Oz did you? Kind of short, super gloomy, hates everyone. He'll usually write you off as dead but most of the time people don't really notice because he has a really uncanny ability to like predict who's actually going to die. And nah, I was mostly chatting you up to make sure you weren't going to taze me too."

The Lifer stared at Mark for a good moment to make sure he wasn't pulling his leg. "No. I didn't keep Rin's arm. I'm not some crazy person who keeps body parts around of my ex in some jar." He refrained from discussing the fact he did try to steal her body once.
"You are probably one of the few people on the island who doesn't read Twitter to know who I've been dating all these years." He wasn't sure why, but he actually liked Mark a little bit more now. Just a little. The outfit and his general mess of a hygiene routine kinda of made it hard to go too far.
"If I pissed anyone off, I haven't heard of it, and I don't know of anyone named Oz unless we are talking about The Yellow Brick Road." He said, and rose his hands to pull his sleeves to show nothing inside. "..and no tazzers though I have to wonder who goes around tazzing you. Doesn't seem like a good way to say hello."

"Yeah I don't even know what is up with the stupid tazer thing," Mark sighed, lowering his guard down a little. It wasn't that he didn't know about the Lawr drama more as in he didn't actually care, " but I have been tazed like six times this week. All for bor- returning things back to the lab. Which I should."
He seemed to be debating with himself and upon seeing Melvin was not leaving, finally sighed. "Fine, just this once I'll fix your file. What do you want it to say, make it short, my phone's almost out of batteries."
