Personality:
Rinis is perfectly happy with the status-quo. Some may call her an airhead, and unaware of possible dangers. She tends to be complacent about most things unless something truly jolts her. To her, things are ok as they are. Why change it? Rinis will change if a suitable, reasonable explanation is put forward. “Because I said so,” will never fly well with her as a reason. She’s your typical ordinary kind of girl. A pretty dress here, a small trinket there and she’s a happy girl. Her favorite scent is lavender. Rinis has the goal to become a dragonrider, but failing that she thinks she’d like to become a firelizard breeder. They are just so cute!
Where is a girl supposed to wear her fancy dresses and pretty trinkets? Rinis loves to attend parties or any gathering really. She’s very much a social butterfly, but is less concerned with her standing. Parties are just fun. Plus there’s food and dancing! Particularly the dancing. Rinis will dance as long as there is music to dance too. Sometimes even when there’s not any music.
Regardless of her care-free attitude, she is quite conscientious about her tasks and jobs as a candidate. It will apply even later in life. Even if she doesn’t particularly care for a job she’ll show great care and attention to see it through to its end. Rinis tends toward wanting what’s best for everyone. She feels she must help, advise, and protect everyone she knows. Often people don’t appreciate her efforts to look out for them and tell them what’s best for them. When she thinks they are doing just fine on their own though she can become gushingly complimentary. To an embarrassing point even. She just doesn’t realize when to shut up.
One point she has trouble being lyrical is when there are metallic riders around; particularly bad around bronze riders. She simply feels completely inhibited by their presence, and she has no reason why. If it was anyone else, she’d advise them to simply get over it. Metallic riders are people too. But she can’t, so struggles whenever they are around and she knows it.
Rinis struggles with the knowledge that thread is falling again. It’s hard to believe it’s started to fall again, yet she believes the riders who say it is falling again. For her it particularly hits home when some come back threadscored. She doesn’t fully appreciate the drills and other training that has been implemented due to the return of the menace.
History:
It all started when a blue rider from High Reaches Weyr was sent to Western. As it happened that day, one of the young greens decided to rise and his blue fancied a chase. The blue succeeded in capturing the green, and his rider had a fine time with the green’s rider. He completed his mission and returned to his comfortably structured home.
Many months later his blue passed him a message from the rider of the green he’d caught. She was bearing their child. He was torn, but in the end asked permission to transfer to Western. The permission was merely a courtesy to his weyr as he intended to go either way.
Rinis was born exactly nine months after her mother’s green first flight. She lived happily with her parents during the nights and attended the cretch during the day while they were busy with their duties. In the cretch, she quickly met Cheora and became fast friends with the twin girl.
When she was 16, a couple of children were searched from a local seahold. She quickly attached to the happy boy. He was the perfect friend; going to attend social parties and dancing with her instead of being a stick in the mud. She was thrilled when he impressed to a sweet blue a Turn later. They still attend parties together even though he’d a rider now and she’s only a candidate.
She was sad when Cheora left to visit Fort to advance her dragonhealing studies and she remained as a candidate. It’s always a happy reunion when Cheora returns for a visit, particularly when there’s a hatching. Rinis has been influenced by her friend as she wants to become a firelizard breeder if she doesn’t impress. Her reasoning is that firelizards has similar ailments to dragons and what better than to have a friend who can help her with them and teach her.
Thread’s return has been particularly hard for her to accept. It was a deep shock to her system. More so has been the changes that have been occurring because of the resurgence.
