He wasn't built for this kinda thing, you know, those delicate little tasks that required daintier pause and maybe just a little eye for detail? Well, perhaps it was more of an 'artistic' requirement than an eye for detail, he had that, it just didn't really translate to this. You see, he had managed to hide himself away, a little bit of a jog from his own camp, and he was currently very engrossed in some sort of braiding.
To any onlooker he appeared to be playing with grass in much the same fashion as a small cub might.
Long strands of grass had deliberately been jammed into his mane for safe keeping and he was currently sucking on a number of other strands as he tried to persuade the rest of them to slot into place the way he wanted them to. Suffice it to say that he was having rather limited success at the moment and every now and then a stream of frustrated curses would escape from his lips. It was highly likely that by the end of the afternoon there would be a lot of young prey children that happened to have learnt several inappropriate words today.
...but heh, at least they hadn't been eaten right?

Baridi had quite the life so far. She had been born a rogue, joined a pride, had a few litters, and now here she was in the rogue lands once more. She had no regrets looking back on her life, and she was more than ready to move on to new adventures and excitement. Whether that meant finding new friends, a new pride, or something else she had yet to discover remained to be seen. As she padded through the tall grass, a string of curses caught her attention. Ever curious and social, Baridi changed her direction to head towards the noise. As she approached she could pick out a white lion in the grass, paws busy at work with something on the ground. It looked as if he was playing with the grass itself, although her keen eyes spotted an attempt at weaving with a few of the blades. "What are you doing?' she asked curiously, not at all concerned with possibly sneaking up on the male and startling him. She had been in a pride too long to forget that the rogue lands weren't always the kindest place to walk up on someone.

Baridi was meant by an explosion of grass and another string of curses; he hadn't anticipated that he would be interrupted and as a consequence, he'd be surprised. Startled by the feline's sudden appearance, he had all but destroyed his uh... class project, and was now regarding her with something akin to mild frustration. Oh it wasn't her fault that she had chosen that exact moment to enter his life, but she was here now.
Well when life gave you lemons...
"You," he pointed a paw at her and then proceed to gather up his grass strands again. "Come here," he ordered as he settled them into a pile. No explanation was offered as he went about tidying up his spot so that he could go for round whatever-number-he-was-on. Eventually he might remember that she'd asked a question, but for now she was either going to have to humour his 'demand' or walk away.
Fortunately he didn't seem dangerous, just grumpy.

The loud, sudden reaction had the leopardess withdrawing back into the tall grass, her body pressed low to the ground, ears back against her head, eyes wide in surprise. While she had certainly started him, he had in turn startled her! Despite her pelt color and being mostly hidden in the grass, the lion was quick to point to her and demanded her to come forward. Although he was clearly frazzled, she didn't get a dangerous vibe from him. Not in this moment anyway. Still rather startled, Baridi slunk out of the grass and sat in the little clearing the lion was in. She didn't say a word, unsure of why she had been summoned rather than chased off. Perhaps keeping her mouth shut would help her get out of this little surprise with a good story to tell rather than a bad one.

He was pleasantly surprised when the female came forward - quickly identifying her as a leopard, he did have to wonder why she wasn't scaling some tree somewhere... wasn't that what they did? Nevertheless he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth, she'd come out as instructed and she wasn't half bad looking either!
Now could she sit still?
"Excellent," he began and lifted himself onto his hindpaws so that he had both forepaws free. "I need you to sit like this and hold your front two paws out," he began, still failing to explain his intentions as he regarded her. "Please," he added, as if recalling that manners were a thing and he should probably use them.
...Even if he had forgotten to give her his name, or make small talk, or generally do anything mentioned in common etiquette practices.

Baridi was quiet as the lion seemed pleased by her presence. He wasn't acting hostile although he was definitely acting strange. His request made her tilt her head a bit, taking in the position he wanted her to take. Paws out, balancing on her hind legs...at least he had remained seated! Hopefully he wasn't getting her into a position that would make her easier to attack. "What are you doing?" she asked again, although this time she had a tiny smile on her face. It was a bit hesitant but a smile all the same as she pushed herself back onto her hind legs, thick tail curling around them. She held her white dusted paws up in the air as he had asked, although there was still a curious look to her face.

"Making use of a dainty set of paws," Tethys replied smoothly as he gathered up some of the grass and took a seat beside her. He offered a half smile, not entirely over his initial grumping, but at least demonstrating he didn't blame her for his otherwise catastrophic art project. With that in mind he soon began to balance the longest pieces of grass on top of her two paws until there were a series of 'lines'.
"Now if you would be so kind as to hold still, maybe I'll make some progress," he mused and began to attempt to slot grass in between these lines. It should have come at no surprise to Baridi that his large paws lacked finesse and for all his attempts, he was still making a bit of a mess as he attempt to make his weave. Admittedly, it was better than when he had been trying to do it alone, but it was still going to end in tears.
"All being well, I might be able to make this in to a necklace," he explained.
...It wouldn't take a genius to point out that it wouldn't go well.

"Dainty?" Baridi echoed, glancing down at her paws as he began to lay long blades of grass across them. Next to his, yes, they were rather dainty. He was nearly twice her size and his paws could easily cover hers and then some. His smile helped chase away any lingering doubts and she watched as he began to weave the blades of grass together. Or rather, attempted to. She watched the pattern closely, memorizing it, before she glanced up at the male with a hesitant expression. "Perhaps it would be better if you held the grass and the one with the dainty paws did the detail work?" she offered with a tiny smile of her own. "At least the tedious parts. I'm not sure how to make this into a necklace, but I can weave them all together until you think it's long enough."

He was the stubborn sort, but when the design 'exploded' again, he sucked in a frustrated breath and regarded the leopard for a moment or two longer. On this occasion he couldn't hold her accountable for his failure and with that in mind he conceded. It would be significantly easier if she perhaps gave it a shot ad he simply...oversaw proceedings.
"All right," he murmured as he pushed everything back into the pile and pulled a face. It was anyone's guess as to how long he had been sat here, but given he'd made no major progress he was willing to allow Baridi the opportunity to try. Based on how things like this normally went for him, she would probably produce something absolutely masterful and then he would have to commandeer her services on a more regular basis.
...He'd ask obviously.
Without further delay he then found himself in much the same position that he had dictated to Baridi the first time...

Baridi waited for the lion to give in, and when he did she settled back down onto all fours and waited for him to assume the position she had been in. Once he lifted his paws, she began to lay the long strands of grass over them carefully as he had done. "I've never seen weaving like this," she commented as she began to carefully slide another blade of grass between the ones she had laid out. "It's very interesting. Simple yet pretty," she added, glancing up at the male with a tiny smile. "I'm sorry for startling you the first time. I didn't think I had approached so quietly. I'm Baridi," she said before glancing down at her work again to make sure she was doing it correctly.

As the leopard worked, he had to acknowledge that she was demonstrating significantly more finesse. She had an aptitude for this and he had to admire that she was making quick work of what he had struggled with all day, hell, she was even able to hold a conversation with him as she did so. He had to give credit where it was due on this one, and cast his gaze back and forth between her and the weaving as she spoke.
"I wouldn't apologise for that," he said finally and shook his head a touch. "I've been chastised more than once for not being aware of my surroundings," he explained. He'd acknowledged that despite her colouring he should have detected her in other ways, his surprise was most certainly not her fault. That being said it was just a little irritating to have to acknowledge that he had been caught off guard again.
...He really need to work on that.
"I'm Tethys," he offered and looked down at the weaving again. "Uh, I'll take your word for it on the beauty, but hopefully it serves its purpose," he mused and returned his gaze to the leopardess. "Otherwise it's back to the drawing board."

Baridi had to laugh softly at the lion's admission to his lack of awareness. She couldn't blame him - this was hard work and required a lot of focus. But perhaps he was as he said and didn't pay attention much at all, whether or not he was working on weaving grass blades together. "Tethys," she repeated with a smile, looking up at the lion as she paused in working. "I hope it does as well. And I'll apologize if I wish to," she added with a teasing tone to her voice. "I certainly didn't need to be so quiet about my approach. Usually I don't sneak up on large lions from behind." She was a good deal smaller than him after all and she knew it wasn't wise to approach any stranger from behind, let alone one that could easily put her in a sticky situation if he wasn't friendly. Thankfully, though, it seemed this male was more than relaxed and calm. Epine de Rose If you wanna wrap it in the next post that would be great!

She had him there, he certainly couldn't order her to say anything. His smile deepened, though he did his best not to move so that he wouldn't cause any hassle with his paws. She really was a pleasant leopardess, he hadn't anticipated that he would meet anyone quite this far out and yet here she was. Better still? She was helping him, and making quick work of something he had arguably wasted an entire day on!
"I don't suppose I could persuade you to make a few more of these after we've finished the first," he murmured quietly as he inspected her handiwork. Not that he wanted to keep her permanently (well, he would if he could...) but he wasn't going to waste the opportunity to borrow more of her time if she had it to spare. It would save his own allies from having to lose their sanity on something that may not necessarily be their forte.
"Then I'll promise to let you go without any further protesting," he grinned.
Whether she said yes or no was irrelevant; he settled once more and allowed her to continue with her work. If she chose to walk off after the first then he would let her, but if she stayed a little long, then even better. He'd just have to wait and see...SilverLutz I think this is a good ending point. n_n
