Today, Fai had decided, was a good day to try and study a rare plant that grew some distance from his herd's land. He had heard about it from repeated contact with other scholars and while he was incredibly apprehensive about going on a such a journey alone, he was still determined to learn as much as he could about the plant. There was even a chance he could cultivate the plant for seeds and bring some back to see how it would fare in a different climate. He had several bags resting on his sides that carried food and various items for keeping notes.
This trip would be a long one away from his family and he knew that danger would be behind every corner. The unicorn hadn't even gone but a mile or so out from his herdlands and he was already jittery and on edge. "You'll be fine, Fai," he assured himself. "Th-there's no reason to be scared..." Of course he didn't believe his own words of attempted comfort. He knew he was a coward and it ate at him like no other. He hid behind his sisters and even though he had befriended Lootah, which was still a feat that he didn't know how he had achieved, Fai was always one to hesitate whenever an adventure or something exciting presented itself.
The stallion glanced over his shoulder, eyes trained on the spot where he knew his family was left behind. He was already through the mountain pass that helped protect the herd from outsiders and those who might hurt or attack them, and without the safe confines of mountain walls around him, Fai felt incredibly exposed. It left his mind reeling in constant hypothetical situations. Here he was, walking on his own, without any knowledge of self defense, ready to be taken advantage of. His brows knit at the thought and he pulled his tail closer to himself in attempt to soothe his worried heart. Everything would be fine.... wouldn't it?
"I'll be there and back b-before I know it." Of course, while he was concerned about physical harm coming to him, he hadn't yet considered the possibility of happening across someone who might try to take advantage of him. He had been lucky enough in finding someone as supportive and understanding as Lootah to put up with his antics. Others might not be so kind. And so Fai trudged along, trying not to jump at every sound that startled him. He kept his ears perked to catch any sounds that might indicate something was approaching him, body tense as he moved forward. "There and back before I know it," he murmured weakly. Exanimus was bored. Bored with his herd, bored with their clearing, bored with today...and it wasn't even afternoon yet. He'd found a spot of shade to lay in, and was currently attempting to entertain himself by snorting and blowing around the grass by his nose. "Ugh", he thought, "Why isn't there anything interesting around here?" There just HAD to be something to do. Sighing, he lifted himself from the ground, and looked around. Making a face, he decided to take a walk. He day-dreamt as he went, about fairytales and maidens in need of heroic rescue, putting himself as the brave knight. "Man, I wish I could have adventures like that", he thought. But nothing exciting ever happened to him. "Ch, not like anything will, either", he mumbled. His life was cushy and boring, and he didn't really hate it, he just wished he had someone to do other things with. His herd was small, and usually Matteo was following him around, trying to be a punky, spunky side-kick, which was nice. He enjoyed the small male's company, which he would never tell him. Didn't want Mattie getting an ego, after all. Suddenly, Exanimus realized he wasn't near his clearing anymore; he couldn't hear the others. "Well...crap", he said out loud. "Fantastic! JUUUUUUST FANTASTIC! NOW I'M LOST!" He voice rose until he was shouting. He'd been so caught up in his own thoughts, he hadn't realized he'd drifted farther than he'd thought he would, and he didn't recognize where he was. "CRAP! CRAP! CRAP", he shouted. Unfortunately for Fai, he heard the yelling. The rather feminine look stallion froze as his ears picked up the loud words, his golden gaze frantically moving from side to side as he tried to figure out just, where, exactly the yelling was coming from. Was a predator angry? Was it a kalona? He knew his herd had been having problems with a local group of kalona and right now he really, really didn't want to find himself in the unfortunate position of being in front of them.
He gulped nervously, trying to swallow the ever growing lump in his throat, as his head turned from side to side, his white locks getting in front of his face. "Y-you're fine, Fai, a-absolutely fine. Y-you don't stand out, at all..." Again his words of self-comfort did little to actually help ease him. He knew his bright pink coat was quite glaringly obvious, even from a distance, most everything about him made him stand out, actually. His sisters had been blessed with brown in their coats, but genetics had decided to take a twist with him and he had come out with a bright pink coat with large green markings. The stallion could only sigh, hanging his head in defeat. If he were indeed within the gaze of a predator, he just hoped his end came quickly.
Fai's steps quickened as he proceeded to travel through the wintry woods. Maybe, he thought to himself, if he managed to go far enough fast enough, he might be able to find someone to help him. Then he heard it, more yelling, and it was louder this time. His hooves paused, his pace slowing once more. His golden gaze looked to see the source, whoever was yelling couldn't be too far off from him now, maybe only a few feet or so, and he'd rather see what creature was about to be the source of his demise. Or did he... The stallion grimaced at the though and gave a shake of his head to dispel the negative energy looming around him. He really needed to stop getting into his own head as well as he did...
Then, out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted them! From what he could see, they were sporting bright colors as just he did. There weren't any sharp pointed horns protruding from the crown of their head or a pointed tail. From what Fai could tell, whoever had been yelling was just a normal, regular soquili. Thank the spirits. Even then, Fai wasn't entirely sure he wanted to approach this stranger that he had somehow managed to cross paths with. "It'd probably be best to just go through the woods off the path. They probably won't even notice me."
And that's exactly what he did... or what he tried to do. What he wasn't expecting to do when he moved off the more traveled path, was to get his leg caught in the root of a tree and crash to the ground with a rather unmanly whiny and a rather less than ceremonious thud to the ground. "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no...." Frantically, he tried to free himself, wishing he could just turn invisible right on the spot, rather than have some stranger catch him like this.Artymus Sorry for making you wait so long. @-@ The school semester picked back up for me, and I haven't had a lot of free time as of late. Hopefully this makes up for it.
