There was a nunchuck headed right for his face, whatever that looked like. There was a resounded crack as it struck the gas mask and all he could think of as his body fell was Man down, man down!
Then there was nothing.
And nothing continued for what felt like forever until his heart began to beep. Or was it beat? He wasn't really sure.MoonKitsune If you need me to edit anything, lemme know! Thank you again.

"So they just keep us froze until the rocks talk to us?"
"Yes." Melvin said as he walked down the walkway.
"That seems straight nuts to have is all sleepin. They should just have us all awake." Kai said as he followed behind coming to the beeping.
"This one is awake now so we need to let him out and make sure they aren't in any bad shape. Then we send them to the cove to find the weapon that activated them." The blonde said as he took the clipboard and started punching buttons in the console.
"Get in front to catch them, please." Melvin informed and Kai moved up front awkwardly with his hands out.
"This is messed up I was here doing the same thing."
"We were all hatchlings once." Melvin said with a smile.

He braced himself for the pain of death and welcomed oblivion as his new lord and master. Oblivion seemed to be a bit on the cramped side and had he opened his eyes, he would find it to be claustrophobic as well. Slowly, lids lifted, both of the organic and mechanical and after a hiss Terry was birthed from ignorance and sleep into waking. He ought to have something to greet his afterlife with but afterlife greeted him with disorientation and forgetting how his mouth worked.
"Hnnng," he grunted as he half unfolded and half fell out of the pod.

A pair of thick arms bent down to scoop the man up from falling to the floor and simply held him. "Woah."
Leaning over, Melvin looked at the man in his arms. "Hello? You okay there? Can you hear me?" He asked and looked up to Kai.
"Can you try standing him up a little to see if he can stand on his own. Don't release him though in case he falls."
The Sun took his hands on Terry's shoulders and held him up. "You okay, man?"

Terry didn't want to embrace the floor and was grateful for the arms that caught him instead. He let himself be steadied but his legs (like the rest of him) had fallen asleep and the pins and needles shooting through his muscles were making it difficult for him to stand on his own. There was a series of questions and he realized he really should answer at least one of them. "Hearing's working. Legs still need adjusting."
He hoped that was satisfactory and then thought he could risk a question of his own. "Trial's over?"

"Ah good. Well at least that is functional. Kai, do you mind holding him up still until he adjusts to standing on his own?" Melvin asked.
"Nah. I did the same thing so I'm cool with him leaning." And so he just held the stranger up so he could get the feeling back to stand on his own. If not, he could probably carry him to a chair outside, but if they wanted him to go down to the weapon room and down those stairs, he would need to be able to walk without cracking his head open on the floor.
"Now usually we want to know if can remember their name and see if their other senses are working." Melvin informed Kai and the trainee nodded.
"Hey man.You know your name? Can you count how many fingers I'm holding up?" He said, asking the same question he had been asked when waking up.
He removed a hand to hold up three fingers.

There should be something surreal about the whole thing and Terry kept feeling like there should be a narrator talking overhead or something. Leaning against the other man wasn't unpleasant but he really would prefer to stand on his own, if only out of pride.
"I'm getting some feelings in my legs," he began and tried to put more weight on them, only to quickly lean right back against Kai while one hand desperately tried to rub the stinging away. Terry managed to keep his expression to one of mild discomfort despite wanting to spasm in unnecessary excess.
There were more questions, and the almost instructional manner of the other man made Terry think Melvin was some sort of professor. "Cruise, Terry Cruise." He answered, unconsciously mimicking the intonation of a certain double oh seven's introduction before focusing on the raised fingers. "Three. Thirteen if you count holding myself up and therefore my own ten fingers."

"Don't worry, man. I got you." Kai moved to his side, bringing his arm alongside Terry's back to hold him up. "You just tell me if you want to try standing again. I don't mind being a crutch. I was jacked up too when I got out of this thing." He said and gave Terry a friendly little shake to reassure him not to push it.
"A pod." Melvin corrected.
"Well, his name checks out and no double vision. This is good. Hello Terry. I'm Melvin Woods. You were just woken up here. I'd like to answer any questions you have as I'm sure there are many. Are you experiencing any pain I should be aware of aside from the weakness in your limbs?"
"Does he have to get his weapon soon? I was told if you don't you straight up die." Kai pointed out, concerned. He wasn't sure what the time limit was and didn't want anyone living to die due to a time limit. If he had to carry this guy to avoid a Mario-like timer, he would.
"We have some time." Melvin assured him.

"Thank you," said Terry as as the initial cramping was beginning to subside he braved another attempt to stand on his own two feet. The stinging had died down to a tolerable level and he was quick to state that "I will be fine." along with what he hoped was a reassuring smile at Kai.
The Professor introduced himself and Terry was about to ask things when Kai brought up death and not getting a weapon. Terry's pulse rate spiked at the death part, and blue eyes widened. "How much time before death?"
His other questions can wait.

Melvin rose his hands up. "You aren't dropping dead. You woke up from you pod from the trail because a weapon in the cove choose you and needs to bond with you. The first part of being a hunter that just woke up is find the weapon that has selected you. We are going to take you down to that room, but you will be on your own in the room to find the weapon. It's a sort of - ritual here. Without a weapon, you are very vulnerable to any dangers which is why no hunter goes without a weapon. You are not going to die any second though so take a breath." Melvin assured both of them, and Kai seemed to relax. Despite Terry being able to stand, Kai still had his arm behind him in the event he would fall.
"Alright. Terry. You are in Life as your division. I'm also in Life. We'll get you a uniform jacket from the quartermaster which you will need to wear while on the island and missions."
"How you know that? Does the board say that?" Kai asked, trying to look at the clipboard.
"We usually select members from the start based on qualities they show. Kind of like a career assessment. That isn't to say you can't transfer to another division later if you don't feel like you mesh well with your division." Melvin informed him.
"Can you walk, Mr. Cruise? If so, we can start heading towards the weapon cove for you to select your weapon." The blonde informed him.
"You might want to tell him who you are to." Melvin gestured to Terry.
"Oh right. I'm Kai Conway. I'm new too." He said, turning just enough to offer his hand while not removing the one on his back so Terry wouldn't fall.

Whatever tension that had formed in Terry, it gradually eased out of him as Melvin explained the situation. "Yes, I should be able to walk." He sounded confident in his assessment but he also made a conscious effort to stay close to Kai as they walked towards the weapon room.
And now that he was actually feeling calm instead of pretending to be calm, he could ask his questions. "What are Life members expected to do? And are there any specific types of danger outside or in that weapon room?" the idea that he would find his weapon through armed combat flashed in his head, and his less-than-stellar trial performance did not make him look forward to that prospect.
Learning that the big man keeping him upright was also new piqued his curiosity. And Melvin's assurance that he wasn't going to just die from the lack of weapon made him want to learn just that more about his environment and the people with him. "What sort of weapons do you two have?"

Kai stared at Terry and shrugged. He had no idea, and instead looked to Melvin.
Smiling at them both, he took the clipboard to turn it in to have it reported Terry was awake, and lead the way down the endless rows of pods towards the exit.
"Life members are support. We specialize in the more technology and research departments of Deus. There are many specializations here where you can study into and learn. Life also tends to focus more on supporting the other divisions and are usually more defensive and healing when it comes to fighting but that doesn't mean we don't pack our own punch. I've seen some Life members do a lot of damage on the battlefield."
Turning at the door, he pulled out a slender, red pen from behind his ear. "When you get a weapon, it will transform into a totem. A totem is just a common item it's disguised as that you can carry around with you without raising suspicion. Mine is a pen, and her name is Saliva."
Without waiting, the pen shifted and, tucking the clipboard under his arm, he held the red gun in his arms. It was long, with a strange, almost sci-fi design with long rows of teeth at the end of the barrel. "THIS is what keeps you alive here. Saliva is my partner and we work together. You will get your own weapon in the cove that can be anyone and anything. It's whatever is chosen for you." Melvin looked to Kai who noticed a bit slowly that hew as to show his.
"Oh. Right. I got this." He reached up and pulled out a pair of swimming goggles he had around his neck and held them out. "Dude is Fin. It's really weird. He's just a fork."
Melvin was about to continue with explaining when he stopped. "Wait. What is he?"
Kai stared back. "Dude's a fork."
Melvin stared back. "....Alright. Well, there are dangers outside of the island and each of them are different. You might classify them as generic monsters, but there are different races and fractions of creatures that want to get rid of us and harm human beings. We are here to protect them. I can give you some books from the library if you want to learn about all of them. But off the top of my head we have Halloween citizens, shadowlings, and horsemen. These all break down into other creatures but that's just generic."
"Oh, and horsemen aren't horse-head people. Someone told me that online." Kai said as he put the googles back on to rest atop his head.
"...right. The are not horse-headed people." Melvin felt they were getting a bit off topic now.

Terry felt a stab of disappointment upon learning he was going to be support. He genuinely thought that signing up would be his chance to finally be someone's hero. Instead, he woke up in a death-battle without knowing who he was or what he looked like, and got knocked out with a concussion via nunchuck to the face.
Looking at it like that, Terry completely understood why he was support.
But then Melvin's weapon was a cool gun you'd expect to find in some epic space opera and he was Life too. This gave Terry some hope he'd get a kickass weapon. And this optimism was tempered into realism when someone as big as Kai got a fork for a weapon. "Does Fin have four tines or three prongs because Fin would be a trident otherwise."
The explanation continued but the tandem of Melvin and Kai made things easier to digest for Terry. And rather than asking for further information on the creatures they would be facing, Terry zoomed in on "Online? We have internet?" and his voice held a tiny hint of excitement at the prospect.

Desummoning his weapon, Melvin placed the pen behind his ear again and opened the door.
"We have contained internet for this island only. You won't be able to get cable or internet for outside of the island as that is a security risk. When you have leave to go off island, you can use the internet there but you won't be using your real identity or tying anything you to this place as it is secret. As far as the world is concerned, who you were is now officially dead, and trying to contact anyone by showing otherwise puts you AND that person at risk. You risk their lives and safety to cover up where we are and who we are. Do not ever contact anyone you knew." He turned on both of them. "Ever."
Smiling, he walked down the hallway as they followed.
Kai counted on his finger. "Dude has 3 points so I guess trident but it's like really dinky." He pinched his fingers apart to show how small it seemed.

Terry's hopeful little bubble was quickly popped to learn it was less of an internet and more of an intranet. He hoped the contents that were up for file-sharing were interesting at the very least. Melvin's already professor-like impression was ramped up to eleven with a dash of do not ******** with this one at the warning about contacting people from one's past.
"Understood," was all Terry could answer with followed by a silent gulp.
And he also refrained from suggesting that given Kai's... mass anything might appear "dinky," especially when Terry considered himself something of a toothpick beside Kai. So he tried to be encouraging, "I'm sure Fin will prove to be an excellent weapon."
