She stretched, feeling her bones popping and creaking as they went. She remembered when things like this didn’t happen, that was for sure. It was the price of living a life of a hunter, mother, wife, all the things she could be labeled as. Lacing up her boots, Liira grabbed her bow, slinging it over her shoulder as she left her cozy home with her two new children and entered into the hot Tale air. The sun was just rising and Liira could feel the dry air warming up almost with every step she took. But she felt like she had a pep in her step that she hadn’t for a long time. Her new babies were close to the most delightful things of her life. She obviously had felt this before with Tyyn, but they had two beautiful little bundles of infant swaddled and waiting for her to come back and feed them both. So it was up to her to get a move on and bring home dinner.

The trees twisted and turned as she entered deeper and deeper into the forest and away from town. It was getting harder to move through without having to plan three steps ahead or else she would be pinned in a dead end. She pushed vines out of her way, and within moments the trees let up significantly and she could tell she was getting closer to aldabuk grounds. It was the type of forest they liked being in. Enough for some shade, but not enough that they would have to work too hard to travel.

She leaned closer to the ground and she could see the faint imprint of hooves. It was harder in Tale to track than it was in Zena. In Zena the snow was packed down, and only new snow could cover the tracks beyond recognition. In Tale, the sand was soft, more often than not kicked around rather than packed down into a print. But with years, Liira had gotten better, tracking had gotten easier. She followed what she saw, moving further away from the cluster of woods she was in and into a small clearing. There in the center, it wasn’t a herd like she was used to, but it was a trio of bucks. Enough for her to make a good meal and then some for her growing family without too much hassle.

She stopped where she was, pulling her bow out from its harness and into its proper place in her hands. She tightened her hold with her right hand and reached to her hip for an arrow. Locking it in place she pulled back on the string, her breathing slowing and steading. With a single small loosening of her hand the arrow launched and was in one of the aldabuk within moments. It cried out, falling to the ground and just like that it was done. The other two moved frantically, trying to flee from Liira’s bow but she was already drawing her next arrow, loosening it and bringing down a second. The third and final aldabuk, and the biggest, was already running and off through the woods. Liira notched another arrow, trying to get a clear shot, but it was already too far away, too far into the forest. Within moments it was over, but Liira was happy.

She had dinner for her family firmly secured, and she would be back with enough time to feed her younglings and that was more than she could have counted on.

She pushed her bow back onto her shoulder and harnessed it, removing the arrow and pushing it back into her quiver to be saved for the next hunt, before she moved to wrangle up her kills. They were good sized, one would be skinned, parcelled out, and salted once she was home and the other could wait until after dinner. Tau would help her with that. They were good sized and would provide her family with good quality meat for at least two weeks. The babies were still on milk, and without Tau’s mother and brother it was just them and Tyyn, if she came home that night. Her thoughts of Tyyn had her wrapped up in her own mind, but she pulled back out and continued to take care of her hunt. She wrapped the bucks up in rope and started to work on the slow drag home, thinking about dinner and all matters of business she would have to take care of once she was back in her home.
