Name: Illa – from Camilla
Age: 33
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual.
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank:  Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Captain of the Red Star's Bane
Physical Description: Illa cuts an imposing figure – tall, fiercely handsome, and strong. Her nose is sharply defined, almost hawk-like. She has Bitran violet eyes and wavy blonde hair that is often tied back with a spiked leather thong.

Personality: Loyal, gruff, take-charge, and cunning. Illa is not one to soon forget the behavior of others, be they friend or foe. Favors are returned in kind, and betrayal will be met with her own brand of justice. She has been known to cut people out of her life, such as her mother, who only looked to her for marks. While she is capable of forming deep attachments, they tend to require more work than is usual, as she grew up in a place where most people use one another. Trust does not come easily. When won, however, it is difficult to shake. When lost... let's just say that it's better not to lose it. On her dark side, she can be vindictive, controlling, and aloof. While she makes a capable leader, she does not possess the scheming qualities of some of Pern's best diplomats and politicians, leaving such courtly games of intrigue to others.

History: As a child Illa wandered the gambling houses of Bitra, and thereby picked up something of the swagger of the gambling elite, though she was herself the b*****d child of a courtesan and a ne'er-do-well rider of unknown color or origin. She started out life as something of a lone wolf, but when she met up with the Bane as a teen she slowly began to develop a sense of belonging amid the rag tag mercenary company. As she rose through the ranks her independent nature was tempered by a need to take care of her team, whom she came to regard as practically members of her family. Her shield-brothers and sisters had her back and she had theirs.

When the Bane were founded at the close of the 9th Pass it was by a group of riders from High Reaches who had become disenfranchised but still believed in the Weyr's superstitions about Thread. Descendants of heroes of Pern, Red Star's Bane maintained a reputation for valor and integrity that they took great pride in. Illa was honored to join them, which honor she repaid in kind throughout the Turns that she fought alongside them. From street rat to squad leader, she found herself as a part of something greater, something with purpose. The Bane did not accept dishonorable contracts, which helped grow her own sense of justice.

At twenty-six Turns, when the Bane were passing through High Reaches, Illa and her squad were hired out to protect a certain Lord Holder at a Hatching where several of his most prominent enemies would be attending. Though the Lord had been known to cause trouble, his fears were justified, and so they accepted the contract. At the Hatching Illa and several of her shield-sibs Impressed, which put their plans suddenly on hold. Most surprising of all was Illa's Impression to young Fenrith, who was one of the clutch's brown dragonets. In her dry way Illa remarked that women had rarely enjoyed her company before, so why should a dragon be any different?

Not long after her Impression, however, Illa was hit with a second, far less welcome shock: Bane's captain, and the man she had grown to view as a father figure, was struck down in battle defending the very Holder she'd left in the lurch. Sick with a sense of guilt, she threw herself into her weyrling studies, letting the activity numb her. Thankfully Fenrith presented a very welcome distraction. She was quite unprepared when, at her graduation, the Bane informed her that she'd been elected to the position of Captain. Since their leader had died without naming his replacement, they'd fallen back on the old tradition of voting in a new captain.

It was during this period of time that Illa's close friendship with her comrade V'kas grew into something more. He'd been her teacher when she'd joined the mercenary company, for all that he was only a few Turns her elder. What had started as something of a rivalry deepened into a friendship and ultimately into love. Although she'd been loathe to admit it, she'd sooner lose her sword arm than the snarky Greenrider. Simply put, she proposed to him. He accepted. Just in time to find himself saddled with the shared responsibility of leading the company.

When it came time to choose between returning to the Bane and remaining in High Reaches Weyr, the return of Threadfall made her decision for her. With the proximity of Bane Hold to the Weyr, the ability to protect the families and loved ones of her company sweetened the deal. The honor of Red Star's Bane could not be tarnished by abandoning their post during the most precarious of moments, Illa relinquished her rather temporary leadership to her second, with promises to return if the situation changed. Bereft of her people, Illa finds herself a stranger among the riders of High Reaches Weyr, and a female Brownrider to boot.

Other: Fights with sword and shield, wearing heavy armor. Rather unaccustomed to wherhide leathers.

DRAGON
Name: Fenrith
Age: Seven Turns
Color: Brown
Size: 42'
Physical Description: Quite large Brown with a pattern somewhat resembling a wolf's pelt.
Personality: Although he is large for his color, Fenrith is a very mellow Brown. He is not concerned by the qualms of High Reaches Weyr over his choice of riders, and showed that when he picked Illa out from the stands. Her loyalty matched his devotion, and he was pleased that she was just as "big" as he. If anyone could understand being an outsider on the inside, it was he. Still, his calm attitude about the matter helped to cement their place among their clutch. Quietly proud, Fenrith looks after those who are in need, taking up their parts. He will plead the case of the unwanted to anyone who mistreats or underestimates them, and does not care for prejudice in any of its ugly forms. As he grows, he fills the role of teacher as if hatched to it—perhaps he was. He has an unfortunate tendency to judge others himself, although he would not recognize it as such. He's a bit territorial and inclined toward herding people who might wish to be left alone.
