Carlee had never been as happy to see Arias as she was right this minute. Of course she had never been quite as scared before either...and when she ran up the stairs of Arias’s apartment and struggled to get her key into the lock so she could go inside, she had never felt safer than when she had made it into the warm room and shut the door, drawing the lock and chain closed on it.
Now nobody could get her.
She stood with her back against the door, trying to catch her breath and saw that the light was still on in the kitchen...so either Arias was in there or he was out running around as Newgrange...and if he was, she hoped with all her might that he didn’t run into that horrible person. Slowly, she tip toed into the kitchen, and upon seeing her brother, burst into tears and ran the last few feet towards him, flinging her arms around him and clinging to him for dear life.
Even if she felt safe, she was still scared half to death, and Arias would know what to do. Of course he would know what to do.
He always knew what to do.

Arias seemed a little surprised--certainly understandable given that he had not heard Carlee come in, didn't know she was coming over, and now she was crying.
"Carlee," he blurted, wrapping his arms around her.
He looked like he had been preparing a meal--not dinner, so probably just packing his lunch for tomorrow. He had just come back in from shopping, buying a few things he needed around the house. The bags were by the door and he was still wearing his shoes. His coat was still cold and smelled of winter, but none of that mattered.
"What happened?" he asked, immediately (and this time, reasonably) worried. He held her a bit tighter, protective as always. "Are you all right?"
She wasn't, emotionally, that much he could tell, but he needed to know if she had injuries. He needed to know what had set her off like this.

She really did feel better when he was hugging her, it was nice, but now she had to talk, and she had to tell him what happened. “You...you can’t tell me to stop patrolling. I...I saved someone tonight, I did. B-but I...someone died and...and the awful Negaverse lady...she….she…”
Carlee drew in a deep breath, gulping in the air, trying so hard to calm down, but all that did was give her the hiccups and she began to cry anew, this time out of frustration. “She took out my starseed...and if it wasn’t for Julienne, and the guy i saved, because he turned into a senshi…I...I...Well I don’t think I would have come home…”
She hiccuped again and once more just buried her face against her brother. “I don’t think I’ve ever been that scared before...She was a monster. A real, horrible monster…”

Arias' eyes flashed and he drew his arms tighter around his sister. He rested his chin atop her head as he held her.
"It's not your fault," he said first; he didn't want his sister carrying the baggage of a lost life. The Negaverse was uncontrollable, and evil, and she didn't deserve the weight of their crimes naggin on her conscience.
He wasn't going to tell her to stop patrolling--he knew she wouldn't. But he was more worried about her being out there alone.
"She sounds awful. I'm glad you were able to save that guy--and a Senshi, too!"
He tried to sound positive, but he couldn't stop thinking about her well-being--and what he would do to that agent if he ever found her.
"...You did good, Carlee." He planted a kiss atop her head and, still holding her, began to guide her to the couch. "I'm glad you're okay. Here--you're safe here. Just breathe, I've got you."

The teenager gave a heavy sigh and really relaxed in her brothers arms. “Thank you. I…I did the best I could, I don’t know if I could call it good or not, but I tried. I really did.”
She had stopped her crying and her hiccuping, and finally pulled away from her brother, wiping at her eyes. “Do you have any cookies or something good to eat? I think I’m kind of hungry…and then I think I want to stay here tonight if that’s okay with you.”
“She…was the same strength as me and had purple hair, and a purple outfit and honestly, she would have been really pretty if she wasn’t so awful…”
Carlee sighed. “I’m gonna text mom and get changed into some pajamas…if you have soup…I’d really love a grilled cheese please? And soup if you have it, I don’t care what kind, but I would like something…cheesy?” She gave a tiny smile and turned away, heading for the spare room that she used as her bedroom in her brothers apartment. Pausing by the door, she turned back to look at him. “Thank you for always being here for me…I love you so much and you’re the best.”
She ducked into the room then, intent on getting into something comfortable and getting this night as far out of her mind as she possibly could.

Arias's blood ran cold when his sister described the Negaverse agent. He could imagine her face. He knew who she was.
He was happy that Carlee was here with him, safe, for tonight.
Before Carlee disappeared, he promised, "I'll always be here for you, Carlee. I love you."
As soon as she went to put on her pajamas and text their mother, he dropped everything he was working on and started making a grilled cheese sandwich. He already had some cookies pulled out and set about making her some broccoli soup.
Between preparations, he turned on a movie and tried to make the house as comfortable as possible.
He wanted her to be safe.
And she would be, with him.
