Another year had passed, and again a lot had changed. It had been six years since she awakened but the last two had been by far the most eventful, she had changed, the world at changed and she had opened her eyes to new possibilities. It was still hard, but for the first time in a long time, she was happy. A fact that was never as obvious as when she was hanging out with Elzo, where she forgot all the troubles of Destiny City and just be a normal civilian.

It was more of an anniversary celebration than anything else, a year ago today he had picked her up from the park and took her back to his home. At the time she was broken hearted and now those scars had healed and the relationship that had bloomed from that midnight encounter was now stronger than she would have ever guessed it would become. Sitting on a park bench with a warm cup of coffee in hand she rested a head on his shoulder. It was cold out this year, the grass had already started to frost over from the night's chill.

“I hope Marlo is not too mad I stole you tonight, I know you two usually get invited to parties with your business associates.” That is where he came from last year, right? She was pretty sure he had just escaped some dreadfully dull event hosted by some dreadfully dull people. People that Marlo was not facing alone - as far as she was aware. She shivered slightly, cuddling against him for warmth like a penguin.

The cold had settled around them, yet it wasn't entirely unpleasant. With as many layers as he had on, he found himself feeling fine. Not to mention sitting next to Ofie was a sort of warmth that had nothing to do with actual weather conditions and more that feeling in his chest that went down to his tows then back up to his face.
If he'd been asked if he'd have ever allowed himself the chance, the opportunity to be with someone to the extent they were with each other he'd have dismissed the idea. Yet here he was. A year after a casual meeting. A meeting of chance after he'd chased the light from her as a man with wings and a magic colder than his heart.

"He's only upset because one of us has to go. I think he might have invited Sana as his date though, so, I mean-" The woman was good for Marlo. She kept him on his toes and busy in ways that were not just emotional confrontations but social. Plus Elzo figured it would be fun reading any tabloids tomorrow.

"Besides this is... kind of our anniversary isn't it? I get sassed and I can say it was a personal day for us. Most of lady folk married to those old geezers eat it up and will help soften the words. We all might be men in that board room for now, but slowly, we're going to see that change. Until then I play the guys by their wives. It's just company politics."
He didn't want to talk work though. Not tonight. Tonight was for them.
"So Ofie, what do you want to do to celebrate? Aside from see how fast we can get cold feet- literally."

“That’s good. In that case I won’t feel bad, he is probably enjoying himself.” Ofelia liked Sana, she had liked her since their first random encounter in Kam’s bathroom. When she found out Marlo and Sana had a connection she could hardly believe it; what were the chances? She was hoping it would make getting to Marlo know a little easier, if Ofelia and Sana got on there was really no reason why they should not take the opportunity to do things as a group every so often. This year her only resolution was to make a better effort to get to know Elzo’s family, she knew his brother meant a lot to him - but she pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind.

No thoughts about work. No thoughts about family. Only Elzo for now, though admittedly she thought the way he described the politics of businessmen truly amusing and quite interesting at times. “Yea, I guess it is.” This year had been eventful, but had flown by so quickly. Ofelia drunk the remaining coffee in her cup and placed it by her feet before wrapping her arms around Elzo’s, holding it close. “I’ll warm you up later.” She nudged him, a mischievous smile on her face. She was getting soft, the cold never used to bother her but now she found her toes curling in her shoes.

“I am just looking forward to the fireworks, my two favourite things to watch - fireworks and thunderstorms. After that I do not mind what we do; I am just grateful you are here.” She had never been a party animal, she did not really drink or dance or do well in large crowds - though she was sure she would have a good time if they went together. She really did hope she was not too boring. The other people in the park were starting to slow and get ready for the display, even though the fireworks were let off in the main square you could see them over the trees in the park - it was quieter here, it is why many people prefer it. It would not be too long now until they welcomed in the New Year.

Elzo snorted at the idea of Marlo enjoying himself at the stuffy party- at least until he realized with Sana there- well. maybe this year he'd enjoy himself for entirely different reasons than his usual sadistic way of dangling contracts and business deals out before men who wanted a part of their ever growing enterprises. Sana was the type to make sure, Elzo would bet on it.

Just the same way that Ofie seemed to be suggesting on how to warm up. It certainly sent a warm flush through him, followed by a low hum of agreement to that idea. Them, under warm blankets, kissing bare skin and- Well. No point in thinking about it and working himself up. The new year hadn't even started yet. "You do more than make a man feel warm Ofie." He leaned in, teeth grazing neck before pulling away, teasing her before he finished off his own drink standing and picking up her own empty cup. A short few steps to toss them away, it was long enough for him to become aware how warm she was next to him and without her it was cold.

Going back next to, he wrapped himself around her, shoving cold fingertips under her coat.
"Alright- we've still time before those fireworks so tell me- what is your new year's resolution?" He was genuinely curious. "Tell me yours I'll tell you mine."

“I would hope so.” She chuckled, leaning away to try and escape his teeth. She did not put up much of a fight - despite the fact it tickled her skin and made a bright blush run across her nose. Then she was gone, and she found herself instantly missing his touch, the affection she craved. They honeymoon period was still most certainly in full swing, the butterflies still prominent in her abdomen whenever she was in his company. When Elzo returned to the bench she wasted no time in returning his embrace; missing his warmth, even if he only parted for a few seconds.

She tilted her head curiously at his question, shivering as cold fingers crept under her coat and trying, but failing, to keep the look of shock from her face. “I want to be…” She paused for a moment, looking at him with all the seriousness she could muster. “The heavyweight champion of the world.” She only lasted a few moments before a smile crept onto her face - spoiling her lie. She wondered why he was asking so seriously - and decided despite her teasing, a genuine question deserved a genuine answer.

She shook her head. “Seriously though? I guess the only thing I want to do is try and befriend the people who are important to you. I do not have any family or many friends; but I know if I did, I would want them to know you --- and love you... I am pretty sure they would have.” Elzo did not talk about his family much or his circle of friends and though their opinion of her did not really matter - she did want want to be kept separate from the pivotal people in his life. It sounded so dumb, so she decided to try and escape the topic - bopping his nose with her own to get his attention.

“So tell and it better be as embarrassing and awkward as mine --- Or i’ll fight you.”

He laughed softly under his breath. She was so much brighter now. Open and smiling and laughing and- She was better. A year having past and she was better. Happier. Part of Elzo wanted to think it was all just luck and fate but- He was with her. He'd become a part of her life and she made him happier too. Maybe it was fate, maybe chance. But still, they both were happier than they'd been and... they had been there for each other.

He'd stayed with her, even after Castor was forced away. That had to count for something right?

"That's a good resolution. I know a few folks who I can see you hanging out with, having fun with. I don't know if your father would have approved of me though." He leaned in blowing air against her neck, a fart sound for only the more romantic of gestures.
"I'm quite the terrible boyfriend."
He was red as he said it, admitting that was indeed, what they were, had become. More than lovers, a couple of sorts.
"My resolution is to learn to cook." He looked up, whistful.
"Marlo has always cooked for me, us, and... I want to cook for him, you- I want to show people I love them with food. My grandmother is old... and to pass her recipes on would be nice." She'd not give them to Marlo but-
He was selfish in small ways.

It would have been challenging; both her parents were very creatively minded and had very low opinions of businessmen. Their impression of Elzo might have been tainted by their bias - but when they realised how happy he made her, she knew they would have come around. Not that it mattered much, her mother’s spirit had left this world and her father would not recognise her if they passed each other in the street. “I look forward to meeting them all.” She smiled, hitting his chest softly in response to his rather rude gesture, and partially to punish his words. He put himself down too much.

Then again, maybe he was right, he would make a terrible boyfriend to most girls. He was passionate, lustful, secretive, damaged and with history - their relationship was open and they demons remained shrouded in shadow for the most part. However, Ofelia saw a light in him, a light that drew her in like a moth - a light that she was not too sure he saw in himself. “You are the perfect fit for me, My love, if you are terrible - remain so.” She reassured him, squeezing him a little bit tighter to get her point across.

She paused for a second when she heard his resolution, a gentle look in her eye. She thought it was sweet, very thoughtful actually - and though she was tempted to tease him she decided not to. “I am sure she would be happy to teach you. Family meals, conversation around a dinner table - it sounds so… normal. It’s a comforting thought.” She mused for a moment, closing her eyes and picturing it with her mind's eye.

The echo of a countdown began to spread across the people in the park, but Ofelia was too caught up in their conversation to notice. She wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning backwards in an attempt to pull him down on the bench. From their previous dates, it was clear Elzo was the more openly affectionate of the two, the bolder and more confident. However, tonight she was feeling brave, though that did little to stop the redness from creeping across her face.

Thankfully they were tucked away in their little corner of the park and all other eyes were fixed in the direction of the sky, it was why she picked this spot. “Happy New Year, Elzo. I hope all your wishes for the year become reality.”

He was lucky is what he was. He'd ruined his first chance at love, at happiness. Yet now he often wondered if he'd been given a second chance. A glimmer of something beyond waiting for another life, another promise unkempt. He was a legacy of broken promises he often felt like, and sometimes as if he'd done some wrong and was just not worthy of his own luck and fate.
You only had so many chances before the world seemed ready to deny you after all.

"A terrible man for a woman who slowly blooms when given the chance. Helping you, being with you-" he held his breath for a moment. Helping her had helped him. It kept him from lazing, from drinking, from some of his more self destructive habits.
"You have made me the better man that I had been." He could never thank her, repay her for her love, so pure and kind."
She deserved better than Elzo.
Than Castor.

As the countdown began Elzo held her tighter, eye closing as he pictured the ball in times square dropping. They'd miss the video feed but this was better. Calmer and not as bright and loud- it was perfect for them. As the final number rang out along with the cry, he looked at her, smiling. This was their day- their anniversary.
"You made my wishes come true tonight." Lips came down on her, and he closed his sense off aside from her.
When he opened his eyes, the flash of another woman echoed in his mind's eye. The sight of her super imposed over the one in front of him. In his haze of new years affection the name slipped out unbidden, a whisper.
"....Saga."

And she kissed him. Closing her eyes as her heart raced within her chest, only for it to skip a beat as a cold shiver came over her, tightening her muscles. Horror. Her breath had been stolen from her lungs as she tried to come to terms with what she just heard - what she thought she just heard. It couldn’t be.

Her chest was tight and her hands instinctively pressed against his torso to push him away - but her arms loosing all strength to do so. She was projecting onto him, sabotaging her own happiness with her twisted mind. Saga? No. He couldn’t know. Know that another man had once called her by that name. Even now the Prince plagued her thoughts, why couldn’t she let him go? Anxiety, panic - all of a sudden the wanted to run, run away from Elzo like she had ran away from him.

Just when she thought she had escaped his shadow, he was back in her thoughts, his words now flowing from Elzo’s lips like they were his own. Was her sanity finally breaking? She tried to rationalise it. Sarah. That made more sense. Sarah, please let him have said Sarah.

“Sarah, is that, one of your lovers?” She tried to joke, but her hands were shaking. It was the cold, she scolded herself, she was shaking because of the cold. She was pale… because it was just so damn cold out. “I am sorry, that is… not me.” She was not Saga, she wasn’t. She was Elzo’s Ofelia - not the ghost of a woman that Castor once knew.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2017 3:25 pm

He said a name that wasn't her own. Worse, that had no relation to her so why? Why had he seen Saga of all people over her face? A woman from lifetimes ago in the eyes of the woman in his arms. He didn't-

Then he felt her tense, push away. No. No, she was just scared he's said another woman's name. It had to be. Ofelia was Ofelia. His mind was damaged and altered from his time as Castor. Hell, he knew that. It was a mistake.
Just a simple mistake, he could fix this. He could cover it up.
"No, Saga-" He breathed, "-I was just thinking how I was ready to start this saga of our lives. Together like this you know?"

He'd made her distraught. s**t ******** hell- he had hurt her. Calling her the name of another woman.
"I don't know a Sarah. Saga is... it was just a though half formed is all."
He did his best smile, his best false bravado.
"You're Ofelia. And I love you." He reached up to cup her face, to try and soothe her.

"Saga was just a slip of the tongue. Me thinking of our lives together."

“And Odin will drink in her hall and look upon her with love.” She whispered, golden eyes drifting to one side. Of course she looked up the name, she knew what it meant and she knew the famous warriors that shared it with her. It was a name that radiated strength, ferocity, bravery and leadership. A good strong name meant for strong women who were expected to do great things in life. The fear in her stomach lopsided to be replaced with a sickly feeling - she had not heard him wrong but she was too scared to pull at the thread, too scared to hear an explanation.

What they had was good, perfect, everything she wanted - whatever complications were brewing, she did not want to face them. So instead she chose to ignore. She didn’t want to know.

Ofelia leant her face into the palm of his hand, pressing her lips against his wrist. “Don’t lie, I would rather you not say anything at all.” Her voice was firm but not scolding.

It was all she ever asked of him and his claims, his excuse, was doing nothing to lift her spirits. She would not force him to tell her how he knew that name, the secrets surrounding his family, the ghost of the past and she had never pushed him for explanations. All would become clear when he was ready, but in the meantime, she did not want him to fill her head with falsehoods.

She looked back up towards him, he loved her, those were the words she believed. Her hands curled around the fabric of his coat and she pulled him towards her, hoping her actions would speak louder than her words could. Reassure him with affection. Cold lips pressed against his own, more passionately than she intended --- Just shut up.

His throat felt dry, his hands cold, and a seed of doubt grew ever faster in his gut and the back of his mind.

Her was joy and sadness. He hoped to start the new year with hope and hapiness. Now? Lips parting, there was doubt a fear flicking behind the soft blue eyes of the man who called himself the mortal Elzo Xanis.

"I did not lie Ofelia." Fingers laced into her own, he still held her close.

"I'll be here for you." He would not abandon her. Not over doubt. Not until he knew without pause that the woman who's found herself at the center of his stars was the one who's left her prince to become a king.

"I promise."

Ofelia laced her fingers with his, squeezing them harder than she meant to. She did not want to let go and in the same breath she wanted to escape. She had been running for so long - she was not sure if she remembered how to stay still. To face a situation head on. However, with Elzo here she felt like she could. He was her strength, her pillar, her rock.

He did not lie. It almost sounded convincing --- Maybe she should have believed them, believed it was a slip of the tongue. However, there were three things that stopped her from doing so; 1) She had come to learn that coincidences were few and far between when it came to the Cosmic War. 2) Saga was a very odd choice of word, one that was not common in everyday conversation - especially for Elzo who tended to speak in far plainer terms than she did. 3) He spoke it with an affection that made her heart ache.

Though she was sure Elzo did love her deeply - The way he called that name was something else. Something very worrying. Golden eyes looked up at him, steadying herself. “Prince Castor?” She kept her eyes fixed on him, trying to spot a sign of recognition in her expression. Too curious, too analytical, all the things that got her in trouble.

        “How does he know you?”

The Prince had told her that he knew the man she loved and it was something that had played on her mind for a while. Did Castor send Elzo to check up on her after he left? Was the love she found an accidental consequence of a spy. Of a Prince’s obsession? Castor must have more civilian alliances, heck he was open to creating one with her far too easily and Elzo had influence. It made sense.

Her stomach dropped at the prospect. Did Castor see through her glamour? Did she share a face with that woman? Was that why he had helped her? Is that what he told Elzo? Was he trying to catch her out? Oh God, she had taken him to her house. She had come so close to telling him everything. Too close, she had let him too close. Too close to the Mirror, too close to Mjolnir; she was putting him, herself, in danger and it was too late to pull away.

s**t. ********. Elzo, please. ”Did he... send you to find me? He called me that once, his second Saga. <********> She was a fool, why would a man like him stop to talk to some nobody violinist on a cold winter's night.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2017 12:26 am

And there it was.

The cold reality and reminder that no matter his place, his was a fate destined to seek that which it could not have. To be denied such a simple want and desire. A second chance, a second hope fallen once again as he knew where such a road would take him. Take them.
There was no place for order and chaos to be without conflict. Such was the way of the cosmos. Such was the fate of his heart.

There could be no mistakes. No room for error. He was suspect now and while she might not know the truth, the depths of it, the reality that he was walking the razor's edge of slipping two beings back into one.
"The same was he knows of you-" It was vague, and he fought that truth to come out with sincerity, "-chance and fate. I'm sorry Ofie, I did not wish for our night to end this way. " He truly did not. He would have preferred it to have been the start of dreams and hopes.

"He did not send me to you, I found you on my own." He stood, letting go of her hand, of that warmth.
"Let's go home. We can discuss this, us, in the morning." Of the secrets that he kept, and why he kept them.
