Almost done!

Beth left Song with distinctively less pep in her step, though some of that was due to the fact that she had been zipping about in ankle booties, walking the length of grounds to get to every dorm. Briiva was her last friend, which her arm was ever grateful for. She had texted the girl earlier in the day but heard nothing back, which was not worrying in and of itself. She knew her friend had a penchant for long nights and hard booze which was a combination that made it hard to coordinate plans. She'd had friends like that at college.

So she practically dragged herself to Briiva's door at the Hephaestus dorm and knocked on the wood a bit harder than she meant to, but probably still not hard enough if Briiva was in her characteristic stupor.

Briiva had been in the middle of a Netflix binge, her companion a surprisingly full bottle of mid-range whiskey. She had certainly meant to have more of the bottle finished at this point, but she found the the show was actually somewhat interesting, enough at least that her attention was to her laptop and not the bottle nestled in her arm.

It was probably due to this unusual sobriety that the knocking caused Briiva to jolt, though she was mindful of the alcohol lest it be spilled. That had happened more often recently than she would have liked.

Closing her laptop, she stood up and grabbed a sweater to pull over and give her at least an ounce of modesty for when she opened the door. Briiva wasn't about to actually to get dressed just to answer the door, and it wasn't like Davor was around to get embarrassed.

So it was that Briiva cracked open her door, wearing little more than a long sweater to cover herself. "Oh! Beth!" She smiled at her friend, unable to hide the surprise or excitement about who her caller was.

Beth's smile, though it was as wide as ever, lacked a bit of its usual brightness. She was still aglow with happiness and holiday spirit, but her energy was definitely flagging. She held up the round cardboard tube decorated with holly leaves and berries. It was the universal packaging for "I brought you booze!"

"Merry Christmas?!" She chirped. She wasn't quite herself enough to nervously apologize and ask if she'd interrupted something or if it wasn't a good time and maybe she should come again. She wasn't quite aware of how much her easy lean against the door jamb had become a slump.

Briiva gave Beth a blank stare of course. Honestly, here at the Prytaneum she rarely checked her calendar. Briiva was content to wake up, work on one of her many projects, then do ******** all after she got bored. She had gotten Beth a gift, even wrapped, but the look that washed over her face made it clear that she had plum forgot what day it was.

After her brief shock, Briiva threw open the door and threw her arms around her friend. "Merry Christmas! Come on in so I can go get your gift!"

She practically forced Beth inside before closing and locking back her door and flouncing off in the direction of her room.

If Beth had had the energy, she might have resisted, if only to keep her classy cool exterior intact. As it was, she let Briiva pull her into her room. She was so out of it that she did not delicately pick her way through the minefield that was the dorm floor. Instead she tripped over a discarded metal piece, stepped on a worn sneaker, and plopped right onto the edge of the bed. All things considered, Beth was willing to call that a success. Especially since she was able to save the booze tube along with the rest of the gifts she had been handed.

She smoothed out her skirt, saying, "You really didn't have to, Briiva." Maybe the more she said it, the more she could convince herself that she meant it.

"You know, I'm actually pretty sure we should be calling it something else, considering that Jesus hasn't bust his way into our little campus." Briiva smirked, but could tell that Beth was exhausted (even as she was doing her best to feign excitement). Flopping down beside Beth, Briiva pulled the gifts she had set aside carefully before handing them over. The first was fairly obviously a wrapped bottle, but the other was in a small square box.

"I hope that you like them! I bought one to go with the other one that I made for you. Figured you could use it." Briiva re-positioned, eager to see Beth's reaction.

Beth briefly wondered how her trying to give Briiva her present turned into her opening a couple of wrapped packages, but she was in no mood to argue. She started with the bottle first, face cracking into a genuine grin as she pulled the tissue off a bottle of Chambord. "Aw, how did you know I was out!" She wasn't, but it seemed like the proper, polite thing to say. "I should have guessed from the shape of the bottle." She opened the box, curious as to what sort of jewelry needed such a large box. When she saw the flask inside, she was somewhat at a loss.

Her first thought was 'How am I going to wear this?' Her second was valuing how exquisite the design on the front was. Her third was spoken: "You made this? For me?" Her eyes were wide with surprise as she looked up into Briiva's hazel eyes. This was no macrame friendship bracelet. The silence may have stretched to awkwardness, but, whether from exhaustion or from being stunned into wordlessness, it was hard to tell.

Unable to hide her grin of satisfaction, Briiva nodded enthusiastically. "It's nothing fancy, but metal is a lot more durable than that water bottle I always see you with, and don't tell me that it's not alcohol that you keep in there."

Opening her own presents rather methodically, her eyes lit up when she saw the bottle. "Oh man, we are going to drink this tonight, right? There is literally no reason not too!" She calmed herself enough to inspect the bracelet before holding her hand out to Beth for assistance in putting it on. "I love it! it's so thoughtful you getting this for me! The hammer is for Hephaestus, right?"

Since getting here and realizing that some gods did in fact exist, she had made it a point to brush up on them and their holy symbols.

Beth let out a coy laugh. "Why, what makes you think I'd be so lush as to conceal my alcohol in something so innocuous! I'm frankly offended you'd even suggest it." She topped it off with a wink, setting her gifts aside so she could help secure the bracelet around Briiva's slim wrist. She gently brushed her fingers against the cool sardonyx beads and fastened the golden clasp, admiring how it played against her friend's skin.

"Yes, since He is the forgemaster." She smiled, gratified by Briiva's response. "If they get to be a bother, you can always put them in a pocket or something!"

Beth compared the bottle in her hand with the one her friend had opened. "I wonder how these two taste together," She mused, before sighing and continuing, "Though I really shouldn't. It's been a long day and I'm already exhausted!"

"It really is beautiful, thank you!" Briiva exclaimed, then she was up fetching a pair of wine glasses. She returned quickly, pulling out her trusty multi- tool to pull out the cork from the wine. "When you're exhausted is the best time to drink!"

Grinning, she poured just enough wine into the glass so that if Beth wanted to add her present to the mix she could. "So, what do you say? Take some time and relax here with me?"

Beth turned over the prospect in her head. Weakly, she said "But then I might stay over and I wouldn't want to do that to you." Her eyes stayed fastened to her glass for a moment before she slowly cracked open the bottle of Chambord to pour some in with the wine. She was willing to experiment. Not so willing to push herself back to her feet and walk back to her dorm room.

"Hah! Like I would mind that. If anything, it would mean that my bed would actually get used for once. There's a reason I keep a pillow by my desk." Briiva grinned, taking Beth's bottle and pouring the liquid into the glasses, gently stirring them before handing one to her friend.

Briiva took a cautionary sip, closing her eyes before swallowing. "Huh, not bad at all. By the way, you doing okay? You look exhausted." She sat beside Beth, absently kicking a couple of her things that were laying across the floor under the bed. No reason for someone other than her to get themselves injured in her dorm.

Beth felt herself raise an eyebrow at Briiva's reference to using the bed. She quickly returned her face to a neutral expression as she sipped the cocktail they had inadvertently made. Not bad at all, indeed. "You know, sleeping at a desk probably isn't healthy. Or comfy."

She lifted her shoulders toward her ears and then let them fall. "I just kind of made a frantic circuit of the dorms carrying gifts to, like, ten people. It's been a busy day." She gulped from her glass to punctuate her sentence.

"Well, it makes it easy for me to get back to work. I just have to wake up, and get back into it. Don't have to change my clothes either, unless I'm going out somewhere." Briiva took a generous sip from her drink before carefully setting her drink to the side before falling back against her bed. Looking up at Beth, she gave her friend a broad smile.

"You know, that doesn't really surprise me. Well, Not sure that I would have done all of them in just a day, but that's just me. Certainly sounds like a busy day, which is all the more reason you should just chill here a little!"

Beth's expression became pained. "Briiva, that's...that's not healthy! Do you at least eat or are you on a solely whiskey diet?" She didn't mean to sound so disapproving and she wasn't quite sure where this maternal instinct was coming from. But if there was one thing she couldn't abide, it was the people around her not taking care of themselves. It wasn't just about luxuries--though it could be--it was about the routine, easy stuff--like food, and a warm, comfy bed, and lazy baths and pulling new outfits together.
