It was new years. The end of 2016. A year of being a senshi. A year of growing up, getting almost killed, watching her parents die, having to give up everything. Saying goodbye to her entire life. Spacewatch- senshi of Comets. A girl who as far as the world knew, was missing and did not exist. Jane Johnson was dead to her, had to be dead. If she wasn't people would try and find her, kill her, or worse. She'd found out that post being a chibi, she'd maybe be safe from corruption for a while. But that clock had run out a long time ago. Now all that was left was Jane's after image. All that was left of her past self was Spacewatch- and even that made her wince and shudder and fear every single sound. Arthur was a nice cat, perhaps the only one she'd warmed to- he let her come and go at his tiny place where sometimes she'd escape to provided the nega cat stayed away or wasn't there. They promised not to share. After all, it would have been problematic. Jane wasn't a child. She knew what adults did. Even if they were just cats. Tonight, the 31st, was her birthday and senshi anniversary. She didn't know which was worse, that she was alone on her birthday, or that the date was shared with the day her life had changed and sent her down the path to losing everything. Having spent a good while brooding and sulking, it was nearing midnight, and so she ventured out hiding her uniform under a thick puffy coat with an equally puffy hood. She looked warm, if slightly like a marshmallow. All she wanted before she would patrol was just a cup of steamed milk with a bit of vanilla. A tiny treat for herself. For her birthday.

Arthur felt bad for Spacewatch, and yet he didn't know how to best to help her. This lead him to try and think of ways he could provide for her. She needed a nice warm place, a permanent place to call home, and someone to watch over her and provide her warm meals. She was as much a stray as he was, and while he could mooch off of other senshi, the girl had more pride and was far more paranoid.
Arthur was also broke. As smart as he was, he wasn't able to figure out how he could use it to siphon money into an account. What he needed to do was talk to a few other cats and start a business. He needed something automated and online that a physical presence of a person wasn't needed.
He wanted to buy his home back. Fix it up, clean it up, and make it his again.
Brooding on this, he spotted the young woman walking. Despite her coat, he could feel her energy signature under it all, and in the cold air could smell the faint smells that all humans had that made each one uniquely them.
In a few moments, a warm body was sliding against one leg. "Hello dear."

The voice was a familiar one and i had her tense momentarily even in knowing who it belonged to. "oh." Her voice was restrained and meek, but she still reached down to gently stroke one of his ears. Arthur always had such a nice white coat, even if he was a stray. She envied him begin able to look nice as he could without trying. "I'm going to a cafe." She paused. "Do you want to come with me? She squatted, slowly opening the coat so he could crawl in and be warm- winter was always cold and she didn't think he liked it better than anyone else.

Turning his head as she scratched his ear, he perked when she mentioned a cafe. The opened coat was such a touching gesture that he was beside himself a moment, before crawling inside and turning about so his head was out and he pushed up to press his forehead against her chin. "Thank you. You are far too kind to me."
But he worried that she would be paying for him and her. He had to repay her somehow. He had to.
"Are you ready for a new year?"

She gave the cat a smile, which was the best she could do really. Tiny compliments were nice to hear. Cat snuggled up in the coat, he slowly stood, zipping up to hide the fuku and share the warmth that was polyester filling. As she walked for a while, she didn't answer her question. It took a block of closed store fronts before she did. "Not really. " At first there was no elaboration then- "I'll be 15 tomorrow. So that's nice I guess." The cafe was just another block away, and the small lit show had a fair number of people huddled inside. The tables and chairs empty on the curb.

"OH.....Oh I didn't know it was your birthday. Congrats." He had nothing to give her, and that made him feel even worse for her. What could he give her?
"Is there....anything you were hoping for?"

There wasn't much to feel happy for in Spacewatch's eyes. After all, today was just- Sour. She blamed that cat even while she held a different one in her arms. She never wanted to be senshi. A chibi no less. She never wanted to fight or do anything other than get good grades in school, study more about aviation- she once thought she could be a pilot or engineer for nasa. But those dreams had died with Jane Johnson. Those thoughts were washed away by a sudden keen awareness that she hadn't even considered, feet coming to a sudden stop two doors down from the cafe's golden lights. She had no idea what she wanted for her birthday. "I- I dunno." She admitted. A home, clothes, school were out of the question. Then- "A name." She looked at the cafe, eyes glassy and distant. "I'd like to have a name again." Jane was dead. She'd been for a long time, leaving only Spacewatch to remain.

He was silent, before looking up at her. She really was just a stray.
"When I was on the streets, I wasn't anyone. I was just a cat. A thing. I belonged to no one at all. When Elanor named me, I knew that I was someone else then. I was something."
But to name someone meant you took ownership of them. They were under your care from that point on.
Was he prepared to take on that sort of responsibility? Then again, as a guardian, wasn't that his duty? To keep them safe from harm. Hadn't he been part of the force that made her a stray to begin with, throwing her to the streets?
"I can give you a name." He whispered, looking up. "But.....I don't know if you want me to name you. I'm not exactly....what most people would want in a owner."

Spacewatch had a very different understanding of naming and what it meant but the idea of Arthur naming her- she didn't really expect the sudden offer. But he understood. Without a name you just sort of... floated. You didn't have much and everything seemed detached and out of reach. Standing still, a beat passed before she answered. "Honestly, it would just be nice to have a name again."

Thinking, he stared up at her. His list of names were generic. He could call her Mocha for her chocolate dark hair, or Autumn for the same reason. These were names of other cats he knew, all based on apperance, but she wasn't a cat and her apperance would chance. She would change - as a lot of things had recently changed her her life.
Human names were more for parents, and so he couldn't bring out a book and pick one that sounded pretty. She had a human name that was no longer her name anymore.
So he thought of only the same logic that came to him, and that was how Elanor had named him. He had been a cat, true, but she treated him as something more than that. She had considered him regal and deserving a title, and often when he sat grooming himself in the sunlight before the shop window, she would continue to call him Arthur. And then, at times, when he was shimmering white under the glow of light, she could say he needed others.Elanor had always liked old movies, and she often dropped named he didn't know, but one stood out when she said he needed a person like this.
He needed a Mordred.
"Mordred. It's a name I heard around me once. I think it meant something powerful, strong, and needed." Something regal to go with him. Something to shine in a patch of sunlight.
"Is that okay?"

Her first thought was 'Thats a boy's name'. But then it clicked. Mordred was the son of Arthur- and that meant. That Arther, a cat, a cat that she'd hurt and forgave her and gave her a safe place to hide and listened to her- She started to cry, snuggling down to the top of his head. "Mhm. Yeah. It's a good name." She started walking again, but this time, smiling.

He was alarmed by her crying, and though she was smiling, he couldn't' stand the sight of her with tears. Turning, he rose up and placed his arms on either side of her neck, rubbing his cheek against her own.
"I'll try and make things better."
