It’s New Year’s Eve! And the Prytaneum is rather quiet as its inhabitants enjoy the yearly reset either in their own dorms, possibly with a friend or two, or back home with friends and family and confetti. No parties have been arranged on campus, but that doesn’t mean that the Heroes aren’t keeping in touch and wishing each other a Happy New Year in any number of ways. Some of them have chosen to join others in their journeys back home, meeting friends and family of their newly-found friends and making new memories to ring in the new year. Some are making use of the numbers they’ve exchanged and texting or calling their new friends, keeping their new lives in mind even as they revisit their former comforts. Quote: This is a thread for a Drabble RP. This will overall not be like a Group RP; your character may interact with others, but it will not be ongoing, it will be a brief, highlighted moment. Feel free to chat with other players and decide what the noteworthy moments might be if your characters are going to interact, or perhaps if they are together for celebrations. You can post here as few or as many times as you would like, highlighting important moments and interactions that occur on New Year’s Eve – and perhaps New Year’s Day – for your character. Have fun!
If you have questions, feel free to ask in thread or in Slack. I have not worked with this sort of rp before, but Blue has, and I’m sure we can figure things out as we go. <3

Rob loosened his neckscarf and partially unzipped his leather biker jacket as he came off the Embarcadero Station escalator. He knew it wouldn't be as cold in San Francisco as it was at the Prytaneum, but he hadn't expected the change in temperature to be quite so stark. He had emerged from Hestia's flame in his bedroom at his house; Sid was living there, but she unsurprisingly wasn't home, so he just did a quick tour and caught the MUNI downtown. That was where all the action was going to be tonight, New Year's Eve.
The crowd along the Embarcadero was already pretty thick with revellers, the smell of weed heavy in the air as people celebrated in their own ways. The smell made him think of Asher, and he half wished he'd gotten the little s**t's phone number so he could text him as the fireworks went off over the bay and read his rants about whatever had pissed him off for the evening. Thinking about Asher made him think of some of the other Chosen too -- Misha with her sweetness and no-nonsense approach to life, Lark with her talent and friendly good nature, Ernst who had saved his life once, Mercy who was bold and brash and unapologetically fearless.
And this all made him think about how much his life had changed this year. Going from slamming his head against the wall as he tried to figure out how to rebuild his music career in San Francisco to starting on a completely different career path at the Prytaneum, from feeling trapped and lost to having a greater purpose to his life… It had been a lot to deal with, but all things considered he wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
Rob wandered along the Embarcadero almost as far as the Bay Bridge before he stopped. This was a good spot to see everything. Shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket, he stood and waited for the fireworks to begin.

The people around Rob in the crowd were getting even more excited for the year to end, and he could certainly understand why. It had been a stressful year for a lot of people. Some were able to deal with it… and others weren't. He thought about Sid and her decision to remain in San Francisco, not live at the Prytaneum at her god's beck and call. It was better than couch-surfing in New York City, but she was essentially denying a higher calling, and that he couldn't understand.
But it was her choice, just as staying at the Prytaneum was his. He knew he'd made the right choice too, for him. He was actually excited about what he would be able to accomplish in the new year. There were so many beer recipes to try out, and with his setup in the Studios he could produce small batches of just about anything. Then there was the concept he was imagining, a brewpub with a venue for local bands. Yeah, sure, it'd been done already, and successfully; but maybe not by someone who had the god of brewing and parties on their side.
He could hear the crowd down the Embarcadero at the Ferry Building start the countdown, as could everyone else. Looking out over the bay, he listened as the numbers ticked down. 4… 3… 2… 1… And that was that. Nothing changed, but everything had as far as Rob was concerned.
The fireworks started off and a roar went up from the crowd. A new year, a new beginning. Rob wished now that Sid or somebody was there for him to kiss; he was a big believer in the New Year's Kiss tradition. But he had an idea. Pulling his phone from his pocket, he opened the text app and typed in a message. Happy New Year, love, I'll collect that New Years kiss when I get back. Then he went through his contacts and picked one in particular out, and sent the message. Pocketing his phone, he turned his attention back to the fireworks, a wry smile on his face. He'd watch a little more of this, then seek out a party at a bar or club here in town and get well and truly smashed.
Maybe he'd get that New Year's kiss yet.

at the prytaneum ... Elias wandered the campus, first following the edge of the shore towards the Poseidon dorm and then making a beeline towards the Hearth. The air above the Hearth and assembly stadium was billowing smoke, and Elias wondered if there was to be a celebration here after all. He hadn't heard anything about a shindig, but he thought he could hear a light thunder of drums. He wanted to go adventure into the woods, to gather some mushrooms to make a hunter's stew, but he was told to stick to the path. And the path never had mushrooms. Elias walked briskly, fighting off a light chill. It was strange that it was the end of December and the temperature hadn't gone below fifty. It was still cold enough to wear his bomber jacket, but he had removed the fur liner, the leather was enough to keep him warm. The bonfire pit at the Hearth was nearly twelve feet tall, a giant burning pyramid of wood. Elias stood off to the side, finding an empty bench. Lighting a cigarette and sighed. He wondered what his family was up to, he imagined his older cousins were out and about, probably at a party or hosting one. His grandparents would be relaxing by the fire, Baba knitting and Jajee huffing on his pipe while reading a trashy romance novel.

it's midnight somewhereZan was pretty horrible with time zones. Thankfully, the Prytaneum and New York were in the same one, making remembering the time back home easy enough while he was training. But London was a whole different animal in every way, a posh pangolin to Manhattan's roadkill armadillo, and he honestly couldn't have said what time it was at the Hearth right now if someone had paid him to do so. Technically it was just a Google search away, but that felt kind of like cheating. Anyway, he was a little distracted by the colorful explosions sounding off around him and the smiling face of Big Ben high above.
And so, at 7:09 Eastern Standard Time on the thirty-first of December, Sylvia received a rather exuberant text.Four exclamation points. Very exciting.

It's Midnight Somewhere (Denver, CO)Sylvia had left the Prytaneum grounds for her New Year’s Eve. While she had considered, briefly, staying on campus, not many people seemed to be sticking around and no plans had been made. Truth be told, she was also a bit restless, and wanted to see her friends and family. It would be nice to reconnect with them for the new year – her new life didn’t have to take over everything.
She had started the evening with drinks and dinner with her parents, and was in fact in the middle of ordering an amaretto sour when her phone vibrated briefly, trying to make her aware that she had received a text. As it was, she had silenced it for a reason, and the text went unnoticed. It wasn’t until 7:53p MST, when Sylvia was walking away from final hugs and kisses and checking her phone for her next plans, that she finally saw the text waiting for her from Zan. Her dimples grew without her awareness as she wondered if his fingers had slipped or if he had been thoroughly enjoying himself for a while by the time he sent the text message. She also wondered at the time stamp – wasn’t it a little early to wish her a happy new year? Either way, she hit the button to respond and typed her own message.Text Message to Zan 7:57pm Happy New Year! Though it isn’t here yet… Where in the world are you, Carmen Sandiego? She would send her own time-appropriate text to him and the few others whose phone numbers she’d obtained when her town's fireworks started going off. For now, she switched to using her phone as an actual phone and dialed in the number of a local friend. They answered just as the walking light changed and she skipped down off of the curb. “I’m ready to rumble. Where am I meeting you all?”[ 317 words ]

it's midnight somewhere (london)It was not a surprise that Zan's evening was nowhere near its end by the time Sylvia texted back. A handful of minutes after she did, he excused himself and stepped outside the pub, grinning as he tapped out a reply. At the moment, he was in a sober lull between peaks of tipsiness and therefore had the presence of mind to keep his text carefully typo-free. His use of capital letters remained nonexistent.
text to sylvia london! it's almost 3am! lol i'm still... making valuable contacts here
text to sylvia hope you're having fun, wherever you are! He had no idea where she might be, but if she was still on the other side of the Atlantic, chances were good that he'd be dead to the world by the time she was celebrating. Zan stifled a yawn against the back of his hand as he headed back inside. Old at 24. To be fair, he'd been awake for twenty-three hours now.

It's Midnight Somewhere (Denver, CO)The time it took Zan to text back gave Sylvia time to drive most of the way to where she was headed. She let the phone sit for the last few minutes of her drive, plus the pain of finding parking, but she did check the phone before she left her car. Once she got inside with her friends, she wasn’t sure she’d notice when messages came in, so she wanted to make sure she checked it while she was thinking about it.
She gave his flurry of messages and skeptical smile, not exactly sure what his phrasing might be alluding to, but he was clearly in a good mood. She wasn’t entirely surprised he was still at it at 3am, though she doubted that she would make it quite that far in her own festivities. Then again, who knew where the night would take her…Text Message to Zan 8:21pm I am, thank you! Home in Denver. About to meet some friends. Doubt we’ll be out until 3am, though - sounds like you’re partying hard. razz She tried to keep her response contained in just one message for the moment. Once she finally hit the ‘send’ button, she tucked the phone away in her coat pocket and opened the car door. She would need to remember to take the phone out when she got inside the pub where she’d be meeting some friends to start off the evening, but it was too cold to try and dig down and find the pocket of her jeans for the moment. Hopefully Zan wouldn’t mind a delay as she made her way to a warmer environment.[ 272; 589 total ]
