Sucking in lungfuls of sharply cold air, Haumea clung to the shadows as he prowled. And though he was supposed to be patrolling and hunting for energy "donors", he had to admit, if only to himself, that he was woefully distracted. Not that he felt anyone should blame him for that distraction! How could he not be distracted after what he and Ate had found in the Rift? Still it was a puzzle that was going to take time to solve.

Which really meant that for tonight, at least, he needed to focus on his job. He would never earn Metallia's benediction if he sloughed off his responsibilities to her. And speaking of... Haumea's lips quirked in a smile as he caught sight of a lone, elderly figure hurrying home through the cold darkness.

"Looks like a donor's been found," he murmured as he followed after.

Although he might not have noticed, Haumea himself had his own stalker -- a young woman of slightly above average height, wearing one of the ugliest holiday sweaters she owned, a can of pepper spray clutched inside the backpack she kept at her side for going on full-city walks. It seemed apropos, this time -- but she wasn't going to jump him. Not yet. Without powering up, Amaris had no way to tell if this was some guy stalking an old lady for perfectly innocent reasons, or if it was a legitimate Agent of the Negaverse who was gonna rip out her dentures and have them over-easy or. Something. (It probably didn't go that far, but thinking about it like stereotypical villainy made it easier. Less horrible.)

She didn't power up yet, because it could be innocent, and because he didn't know that she was there - but she crept closer, quiet, watching. Waiting. Praying that if she was right, she'd be able to react quickly enough to stop him.

Concentrating as he moved, HAumea quickened his pace just enough to keep him close enough to the old woman to begin drawing away wisps of her energy. Nothing too noticeable, of course. Perhaps the spirit of the holidays had touched his to some degree.

Though it was far more likely that he simply didn't feel like trying to hide a body this time.

The orb of collected energy glowed dimly above him. Though not as full or bright as he would prefer, Haumea stepped back into the shadows with his prize. Let the old woman live another night, he thought with some amusement. Then, that amusement turned sour as he caught the barest flash of movement behind him.

"I wonder," he began just loud enough for whoever or whatever it was to hear, "whether you are suicidally stupid or just someone's poor dumb pet who escaped the leash."

With a thought, he let the energy orb go, knowing it would reach the Negaverse before him.

"I just wanted to see if you were gonna kill an old lady," Amaris muttered, putting the pepper spray down on the ground as her form shimmered into blues and whites (and cold metal and heels, why was her outfit like this, why was the universe like this); and at the tail end of that, she picked the can up again and moved out into the light, brows furrowed. "That's classic villainy right there -- like, full on mustache twirling and tying damsels to traintracks, yeah? And I, as an obligatory defender of Light and Justice," (the capitals were practically visible) "blah blah blah will punish you."

Anakeion shrugged. "I mean, like, you could always go home, though. Get in the Christmas spirit and not kill people. Like a good neighbor. Always an option."

Listening politely, face impassive, Haumea turned his head slightly to eye the girl who stepped out into his line of vision. Then, nodding slightly as if coming to a decision, he sighed and crossed his arms over his chest, giving this odd girl his best thousand yard stare.

"I see. Stupid then," he said conversationally. "And quite obviously with a touch of the overly romantic. Though I commend you on your ability to speak your capitals."

For a moment, he looked amused, though it was quickly replaced by obvious disdain.

"Go home, little girl. If you're still seeing the world in terms of mustache twirling and train tracks, you're far too young to be in this war. Save yourself pain and walk away. The loss of a few vagrants is hardly something to concern yourself over. Get out before you become a casualty yourself. And," he added, with an icy smile, "I'm afraid that is the extent of my Christmas spirit."

"I call it like I see it," Anakeion shrugged exaggeratedly. "You guys eat souls, drain energy, command mindless monsters -- pretty traditional evil empire stuff there. I consider myself a genre-savvy lady, y'know? This is all stereotypical magical girl s**t, down to magical winged princes and named attacks." She mostly just looked annoyed by Haumea, shifting her weight from foot to foot, in a stance close enough - or approximating - something close to ready for a fight.

"'Sides, I'm hardly the youngest one. And ain'tcha cold without a shirt on? Seriously, dude, it's hard to take you seriously when your nips are one fast movement away from bein' right out there in my face."

"No," Haumea spoke up, voice thick with pitying disdain. "What you are doing is speaking in broad generalities of things that you, clearly, painfully, know nothing about. I do not eat souls, nor have I ever seen anyone who does. And I assure you, most youma have minds and a fair numbers show far more intelligence than you've managed thus far."

The mention of youma distracted him for a moment as he recalled the wild hatred he'd felt in the Rift. No, those monsters had definitely not been mindless. Had it not been for Metallia's grace in sending Alkaid as a guide, he had no doubt those poor beasts would have destroyed himself and Ate.

Shaking his head irritably as the girl continued to speak, Haumea sighed and drummed his fingertips against his arm as he considered her rather rude questions.

"Why should I care about the cold? It doesn't matter in terms of my mission. Besides which, senshi are made to be resistant to the cold. How else could some function on their home worlds? Perhaps whatever aberration you embody couldn't be bothered to give you the same benefits."

Though outwardly impassive, Haumea was doing his best to needle and provoke this girl. And it was the easiest thing in the world to quietly call up his own magic with a whispered, "Plumeria Sweet Tang...", and count of the night breezes to help carry his poisonous little petals to the brat even as the rest of his magic forced her to come closer. He was tired of talking.

Quote:
Once again, Haumea is wreathed in Plumeria scent, however, this time he is able to perform twice per battle with each instance lasting about 30 seconds. Now, instead of just the lure (The haze in and of itself is harmless, however those under its spell cannot help themselves in the need to move closer to the source of the scent.), Haumea is also able to produce a very small group of plumeria petals which are poisonous. If a petal lands upon the skin, it has a caustic effect and will cause skin irritation (ie. rashes, tiny blisters, etc.). If a petal should somehow be ingested, however (very unlikely), the one who ingested the petal will start vomiting and feeling dizzy.

"What's the 411, mister flower crown," Anakeion snickered quietly, clearly caught up in her own joke. "I'm warmer than I'd think, but I'm in metal and a skirt -- not exactly 'climbing the Everest' clothing here -" and then the plumeria petals started wafting towards her, and her feet moved almost without her realizing, taking a step - one, two, three, four - towards Haumea.

She looked very displeased about it all, really, and her hands were clasped behind her back, the pepper spray hidden there for if he decided to get awfully close. She was going to have a nice set of irritated spots all along her arms and stomach the next morning, given the way she winced, given the way she couldn't dodge them.

What on earth was she even chattering about? Haumea couldn't begin to fathom, though his eyes narrowed warily as he saw how she was keeping her hands out of sight. Unless she was carrying a starseed (which he highly doubted), she had a weapon she did not want him to see.

Which made it important to keep her from coming as close to him as his magic would demand of her. Which also meant that he had a reason to be grateful for the enhanced speed being a senshi granted him. Remaining outwardly relaxed, he waited for a breath for her to get a tiny bit closer before darting forward and whirling to deliver a sharp kick to her legs. If he could keep her off balance or even slow her with a few well placed injuries, it would give him an edge against whatever weapons she had.

Her other arm came out from behind her, aimed the hot pink spray bottle at his face, and clicked down on the trigger. ******** wouldn't be able to kill her with pepper spray in his eyes, hopefully, and she could make a tactical retreat and put some aloe on her arms or something.

Before he could even enjoy the spectacle of the girl windmilling and panicking, Haumea had to jump back to avoid being hit in the side. Still, he could dance around as needed. And as long as she came off worse, he could deal with a few slaps, right?

In his quiet gloating, he'd momentarily forgotten about her hidden weapon and was sharply reminded that she wasn't entirely helpless as a hot pink spray bottle appeared and was set off right in his face. He barely had the time for a strangled sounding, "b***h!" before his eyes and nasal cavities were set on fire.

Shouting and stumbling backwards, face clasped in both hands as his entire world became OMFGPAIN, Haumea's only concern was getting whatever it was gone. And hoping that whatever the little ******** had hit him with didn't leave him blind.
