The day moved onwards and upwards and only got better, Misha thought as she half-skipped down the hallway of the Hera dorm. She hummed beneath her breath, swinging from one carol to another as the mood took her. Rob had loved his gift! She loved the feeling of choosing something so well. Thank goodness she called in a few favors back in Philadelphia so she could get it right. When it came to her next target, though, she felt much more self-sufficient and confident in her choice of gifts. Beth's taste ran along many of the same lines her own did with the additional benefit of having a bit of extra polish and class that Misha herself never seemed to bother with. She grinned and brought the small box in her hand up to her chest for a quick squeeze. Beth just had oodles of class and taste, always even more so when she relaxed. Reaching her friend's door, Misha paused and glanced down at her awful sweater-dress. Hopefully, Beth would not slam the door in her face for assault against fashion. She giggled to herself. No, she was pretty sure Beth would see the joke in it. At least she counteracted it somewhat with simple green leggings and black booties, right? "Beeeth?" Misha tapped on the door. "I hope you're hooooome." WC: 222/800

It was a strange feeling, not having this holiday party or that family get-together to block out Beth's time during the winter months. It was a shame, really; her wardrobe was a marvel, a spectacle, if she did say so herself. But such things mattered little without an audience to appreciate them. So occasionally she dressed up as if to go out, even if she was just going to lounge in the room or run to the Cafeteria. An audience of one would suffice. And so it was that Beth had finished dressing and was admiring herself in the mirror. Though she never went full Christmas, she felt that bringing at least some holiday coloring to her usually dark wardrobe helped. Then she heard the knock on her door. She paused, a bit confused; she wasn't expecting anyone. Still, she had dressed up for the occasion, unexpected though it might be. So she flounced over, grin spreading across her face as she heard who was on the other side of the door, even before she opened it. "Misha?" She chirped as she pulled on the knob. She faltered a bit, taking in the absolutely unironically terrible Mrs. Claus sweater dress her friend wore. She worked very hard to keep her lips from letting out the giggles that threatened to free themselves. Finally, she choked out, "Are you going to start singing?"

Completely unbothered by either the threat of giggles or how ridiculous (and adorable) she looked, Misha beamed at her friend. Then she dipped into a little curtsy; there was no fullness of a skirt to emphasize the gesture but she gave it a good show by holding her hands in a stilted manner. Her light eyes sparkled. "I can if you want but I'm warning you that I'm only a kind of good singer," she laughed. "I fake it really well but I'm not even in the same zip code as Rose." She ran a quick assessing gaze over her friend's own wardrobe choice and smiled brighter. "And you look super lovely yourself. That color suits you perfectly," she added warmly. "You're a regular Snow White but better." Neatly, she sidestepped into the room. Her friendship and comfort with Beth clearly put her past such niceties as asking permission to enter. "But trust me that I'm not bringing you a heart in a box," she announced. She lifted the little package in her hands, offering it to Beth. It sparkled with silver ribbon and glittery paper. "Merry Christmas, sweetie!" WC: 411/800

Beth's cheeks warmed at the comparison to Snow White. Instinctively, she pulled her hair over her shoulder to better fiddle with it, and laugh appreciatively at Misha's antics. As her friend stepped into her room, Beth stepped to the side to better allow her access. "Aw, thanks, Misha! I know that Mr. Claus, where ever he is, is a lucky man indeed!" She closed the door, thinking, then continued, "Or, you know, other Mrs. Claus is a lucky woman too!" She couldn't remember if they had pinned down preferences between them, but it was easy to assume. Her bed was still a sea of stuffed animals, Mally given a place of honor among the pillows. The purple scarves over the lamps had been replaced with red and white ones, glitter snow flakes pasted on many surfaces and even hanging from the ceiling. There was a swivel chair behind the desk that was currently supporting her laptop. In the corner was a pair of vaguely mismatched but comfy-looking chairs, which had been added since the last time Misha had been hosted. Beth blinked at Misha's enthusiastic gift bag, a vague panic settling in her eyes as she remembered the gifts she had gotten Misha, sitting in their shipping boxes on the other side of her bed, blatantly not wrapped but hidden from view by the height of the mattress. Well, this was about to be awkward at best and messy at worst. "Oh, Misha! Thank you!" She sat on the edge of her bed, looking for a card--if there was one--and pulling the wrapping and ribbon off as delicately and conscientiously as she had the shower curtain in the Alps. All the while she was frantically thinking of how best and most naturally to give Misha her presents.

"I have to admit it's Santa as nice and lovely as Mrs. Clause is, I'm sure. Women are so very pretty but..." Misha shrugged elegantly and moved to drop into one of the new chairs. She arranged herself lazily, conscious of the length of her dress but not overly concerned since she was with Beth. She propped an elbow on the arm of the chair and propped her chin in her upraised hand. Her smile shone with eagerness. "Go on. Open it. Please? I want to make sure you like it."

Beth lifted her eyes to Misha's briefly to smile at her comment on Mrs. vs Mr. Claus, but her attention was focused on the contents of the wrapping tissue: a cute comb, made to be tucked into voluminous folds of hair, adorned with peacock feathers. Beth couldn't recognize any one designer's signature on it, but that was perfectly fine. That Misha thought of her at all was a lovely gesture. "Oh, Misha, it's perfect!" She beamed and set to putting the comb into her hair. At least she had styled her hair in an updo which allowed using her new gift. "Does it look great?" She turned her head to the side so Misha could see it in her hair. Regardless of the answer, she continued, "I love it!"And suddenly she was pulling Misha into an embrace. "Thank you so, SO much!"

Giggling in pure delight at how Beth reacted, Misha hugged her friend back tightly. "I'm so glad," she sighed. "I wasn't sure if I was being too on-point with peacock feathers but I saw it and just thought... How gorgeous, you know?" As the hug eased, Misha drew back and her smile lit her face, eyes sparkling. She set her hands on Beth's shoulders then, tipped her own head to one side, and observed the impact. She nodded firmly. "Perfect," she announced. "It's just the right size and the colors pop against your hair." Lifting a hand from Beth's shoulder, she gently smoothed a piece of her friend's rich dark hair down. She surveyed her handiwork with undisguised pride. "Almost as pretty as you, hon."

Beth instinctively ducked her head under the weight of inspection, but smiled in relief at Misha's kind words. "I don't think it was a bad call to get something in honor of Hera. In fact...." She trailed off as she pulled from Misha's embrace. "I had the same idea! Kind of." She looked over at her pile of gifts and sighed. She stood and bent over the end of her bed to fish the two boxes which contained the gifts she'd ordered for Misha. She hesitated and then held them out to her friend. "Sorry, I didn't have time to wrap them."ShortGreen In the first box Misha will find this: x--here's the detail on it. In the second box is x, a small paper with a prayer to Aphrodite wrapped around it.

"Silly." Misha smiled warmly at her friend as she accepted the presents. She noticed the hesitation and felt the need to reassure the other woman; Beth overthought things and worried too much. She hugged the plain boxes to her chest and beamed over at Beth. "Just think of it as being eco-friendly and not creating more paper waste." That said, she turned her attention to the boxes and made quick work in opening them. The moment the colors of the scarf lay revealed, she gave a soft gasp. "Oh, Beth..." She discarded the box and drew out the length of soft fabric. It slid over her hands smoothly and the colors glowed. She held it up to better see the image and an amused smile curved her lips. "Thank you! That is some sassy sexiness," she announced. She draped it over her shoulders and then artfully adjusted it to hide her awfully tacky dress before lifting it up to cover her hair. Misha posed, lashes lowered and lips slightly pursed. "What do you think?" She still had a box to go but the colors of the scarf just begged to be worn immediately!

Beth managed to radiate and blush at the same time. "I really like her style. Some of her work I don't understand--kinda geeky stuff, you know? But every piece is just lavish and lovely. I thought the red suited you. You look so stylish!" She grinned, just a bit impish. "Now that you look like you're just wearing the scarf!" She had meant the comment in terms of covering the adorably hideous dress and hadn't thought of the possibly flirtatious way it could be construed.

Misha fluttered her sooty lashes, a come-hither little smile on her face, as she adjusted the scarf again and offered another pose to her generous friend. She looked a perfect Mata Hari with her awful dress covered up and nothing catching the eye but the colors of the scarf and the paleness of her eyes and the red pout of her lips. Then she lowered the sultry and turned up the sunshine, a bright smile lighting her face. She came to Beth for another tight, snuggly hug. "Thank you so much. It's a stunner." Pulling back a bit, her gaze caught the other box and she laughed. "And I'm forgetting the other gift. My bad!" She immediately flounced back to the bed and the box. With a flourish, she removed the paper and lid and gasped. "Oh, Beth! It's so pretty!" With gentle fingers, Misha lifted the string of beads from the soft paper in which they nestled.

Beth giggled, one arm automatically going around Misha's back, and the other around Misha's embracing arm. She flushed under Misha's approval. "I hope it matches things in your wardrobe!"She let her arms fall away and watched with interest to see how she reacted to her second gift. "Pretty and functional, I hope! Both jewelry and devotion, was the idea." She smiled nervously, wondering if Misha understood the significance of the sigils and stones.

"Oh." Misha touched the central silver charm with a reverence that could only have been gratifying to Beth's ego. A slow smile crept over her face and she moved to stroke along the line of beads. "It's absolutely beautiful, hon." She touched th central charm again. "A talisman? For Aphrodite?"

Beth's grin widened and she could not contain her glee. "Yes! They're prayer beads! To keep Her with you wherever you go. Though if you just wanted to use them as a necklace, I'm sure She wouldn't mind." It was gratifying to see wonder and surprise appear on Misha's lovely face.

"Frankly, she would probably love it since it meant the necklace would be worn continuously." Misha lifted the necklace again before lowering it to pool in the palm of her other hand. She watched the play of light over silver and pink for a moment. She was not particularly religious despite the evidence that some form of gods and goddesses existed but the thought behind a gift always weighed more than the meaning of the actual gift, she thought. She closed her hand tightly around the necklace and launched herself at Beth for another enthusiastic hug. "Thank you so much," she murmured. "I love both of them to bits and pieces. You're so sweet."
