This time he was certain he had everything he needed packed. His Baba had tried to pack his dufflebags, but she forgot to put shirts in, and had put several cabbages in place of shoes. After trying to assure her that he could buy cabbages at the "college" where he was going, she took them back to the kitchen but returned with the spinning spice rack, insisting he take it. Elias put the rack back into the kitchen before he kissed her goodbye, she wouldn't remember telling him to take it. Cousin Nikolai and Ferdinand gave him brand new clothing, which was unheard of in the family. Waste not, want not and just have Baba put a patch on it were family mottos. Two, five packs of multi-colored V-necks, a few pairs of boot-cut jeans, a leather belt and half-apron. Elias was surprised that his cousins had picked out such plain clothes, as they both teased him about his "Jajee sweaters" and his corduroy preference, but he was quite pleased. He had expected some bedazzling from the sparkle twins. Jajee had bought him his old Polish eagle tie, a carton of off-brand smokes, and a top-dollar portable cooktop. They spoke for an hour as he packed, and Elias found he really didn't know what to say about where he was going. It was like the words were trapped in his mouth. So, he told him his hopes. Learn new culinary techniques, drink with someone other than his family, try to learn how to dance, and maybe meet a girl. Or two. Honestly, he didn't know if any of those things would happen in Michigan. But he could hope. Elias had met with Chris, a hero of Poseidon, earlier in the week. He explained as much as he could in a short amount of time, apparently there was something going on in Michigan he had to get back to. Something about a mission gone wrong and animals everywhere. His accent was pretty thick and a polarizing accent at that. So, here he was, standing in the kitchen. Staring at the stone fireplace. He looked over the letter again, and pulled out his cell phone to check the time. Elias flipped it closed and stuffed it, along with the letter back into his pocket. Wikipedia informed him that leather was a fire-retardant material, made sure to wear Jajee's WWII flight jacket and gloves. Keep the hands and arms protected. After lighting a cigarette, he shouldered his two dufflebags, grabbed his knife case, and pulled a ivory letter from his pocket. Elias clutched the letter in his free hand, and stepped into the fire. With a clang of pots and pans (carefully stuffed in his luggage), Elias arrived at the Hearth in Prytaneum, shocked he wasn't even a little bit singed. 468 words

Sylvia wasn’t quite ready for lunch, but she had decided to head towards the Hearth anyway. If nothing else, she could do some reading in the corner before actually eating anything. Or she could people-watch. That was sometimes a fun activity. Especially with everyone getting to know each other better and making all sorts of connections, it was interesting to see how different body language was, and how everyone was reacting to each other now.
So it was that she was headed for the Hearth when it suddenly spit out a new arrival. Sylvia just glanced at first, figuring that someone was returning from a trip home, but when what she saw didn’t register as a familiar face, and when she realized that the shape was rather large, she looked again. He was a rather tall fellow, with sharp, interesting features, carrying two duffel bags and… well, looking rather surprised at his own arrival. First time traveling by Hearth, she assumed.
Intrigued, Sylvia altered her course, peering at the new boy with a smirk on her face and crossing her arms as she considered him. He was a looker, she would give him that. His style was… interesting, but it seemed to suit him somehow. She was immediately curious. Offering an amused smile, Sylvia looked him over again and raised a brow at him. “Hello, handsome. Can I help you with something?”[ 232 words ] Kyjoto Hope this is okay~ ; w; <3

Elias took a drag on his cigarette as he stepped out of from the fire of the hearth. He could feel the heat growing beneath a few moments after he stepped through the portal.
He made a note to ask about that, and to ask how that whole fire-travel thing worked. The idea of walking into fire to get somewhere wasn’t too exciting to him. Elias hoped it wasn’t an all the time thing. The ivory letter he had been clutching seemed to disappear, and he couldn’t remember what it had said.
To his left was a Greco-roman style building, and to his right was a grand stadium. And a figure heading towards him. He was certain she was coming for him. His mind began to race, and his face warming. And it wasn’t from the fire.
Her bouncing hair was striking: pale pastel colors were layered throughout her platinum blond curls. But Elias was drawn to her vivid eyes that were much like his own, but they had a strong blue undertone. The word chosen came to his mind, and he wondered what she had been chosen for. Certainly for her beauty.
Standing before him, she spoke, her voice soft and honeyed. Her smile was beaming, and Elias felt a strange tightness in his chest. He didn’t know how to talk to girls that weren’t his family. Elias sensed this was going to be a problem.
He extended his hand out, withdrew it, and put his duffel bags down on the lawn. “I’m Elias, Elias Bronislav. Or Eli if you prefer, I don’t mind. I don’t mind either one.” He stammered, trying to put words into a sentence was harder than it seemed. His system was overloaded, and all his senses were rising. He felt light-headed. “How does that work? The fire-travel?” 298 WordsMika_Yumi whee Perf~! I'm thinking shorter posts are gonna do better off, haha.

Aww, look at him blush. She was oddly flattered to have someone blushing just at her approach – it had been a while since she’d elicited such a reaction. Though, goodness, what a surprise it was. She’d meant handsome when she’d said it – she wouldn’t have thought she could knock a blush into that man. And on top of it he started sort of stammering – in movements and vocalization. His hand was offered, then withdrawn, then the bags were down and he was offering his name. Maybe he was just nervous about this whole situation – being Chosen, traveling by fire, magic and fighting (and he hadn’t even seen the dragon head yet). Well, she couldn’t blame him there.
“Elias,” she repeated back, unsure yet if she wanted to use his nickname. There was a glimmer in her eyes as they narrowed just slightly, a warm smile still on her lips. “I’m Sylvia, Chosen of Aphrodite. Nice to meet you.” She didn’t offer her hand after his earlier hesitance, sure that a smile and a name was enough for now.
She chuckled a bit at his question, brows raised and eyes widening for implication, “Honey, I wish I knew. ‘Magic’ seems to be the best and only answer, really.” She glanced at the Hearth and shook her head, shrugging at him when she met his gaze again a moment later. “I’m sorry to say that you’re going to have a lot of questions about that sort of stuff that you’ll mostly just have to accept and adjust to. We never really get to ask direct questions of the ones who make all this stuff happen.” Her hand waved in a vague, encompassing gesture. That wasn’t the only question she would ask if she got the chance. Several Chosen had mentioned just wanting an answer about why they, specifically, were chosen. Who knew if they’d ever get answers to the finer points of Godliness.
“So, do you need help with those?” Sylvia’s eyes flickered to the bags he’d set on the ground. They were rather large, but after toting around her tower shield she was sure she could shoulder one of them for a while.[ 362; 594 total ] Kyjoto Hurrah! "It's very nice to meet you, Sylvia. Hera chose me. Aphrodite?" His mind began rolling through his index of names, pulling what information on gods he had learned from his days in high school, which was more than a decade ago. It hit him like a truck, and he gave a weak smile. "Goddess of beauty”, he said, almost to himself. “She chose you wisely." The idea of being chosen still didn't settle right with him, and he was still fighting it. Why me? The question had rung through his head since Chris had visited him a month ago.
”I’ll take your word for it. Magic.” Elias would have to be satisfied with the answer, realizing she knew as much as he did. He always thought magic was with a wand, or dragons. Not being asked to come to the equivalent of college, a god driven college at that.
Elias looked down to his bags after she offered to help him carry them. ”No, uh, I’ll be alright.” He regretted how much he had packed, especially the pots and pants. ”Instead of carrying my bags, do you have time to show me around? Or do you have a class or something?” He figured he could just leave the bags here, no one would want to steal his pots and pans. Or so he hoped.

What an interesting boy this Elias was turning out to be. Chosen of Hera? Goddess of marriage, family, home – one of the more comforting gods, Sylvia thought. The only other Hera she knew of was Beth. While she took the time to place information of his patron, he seemed to be doing the same, watching her for a moment before his eyes seemed to widen just slightly and he almost looked sick despite the smile on his face. What was wrong with Aphrodite? She hardly heard his realization, though the compliment was just loud enough for her now-perked ears. She gave an odd little smile before offering a reminder: “Thanks, but she is the also the Goddess of love.” This seemed to her a more likely reason for why Aphrodite chose her, given her occupation. She offered a flippant shrug, “Goddess of lust, too, but they’re all multi-faceted.”
The edges of her mouth turned down slightly and she gave a shrug when he turned down her offer – an expression of ‘fair enough’, though her eyes flicked over the bags once more before she let it go. His following question somewhat surprised her, though she wasn’t sure why. Perhaps because after his brief introduction with magic she would have expected him to only want his dorm pointed out so he could figure out the solid pieces of his new life. Tangible things, that’s what she’d found she’d needed when she came. It took her a while, but eventually setting up her room a bit had helped – and he seemed way more prepared for that than she had been.
She gave a light chuckle. She had only taken one class so far, though his comment was a good reminder that she should be taking better advantage of whatever was offered. She’d have to remember to stop by the building later and see if she could find a new schedule. “Sure, I’m not busy; though, you’ll probably take a more in-depth tour later.” She would cover basics, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to travel through every building at the moment. Max had kept the tour succinct, but it had still taken a decent chunk of the day. Even with just one follower, he’d already asked a question upon arrival, and Sylvia wasn’t prepared to answer the many more she imagined he would have if she took him through every single building.
“Well, the most immediately pressing thing, I suppose, is that you just traveled through the Hearth.” She briefly eyed the fire behind him. “This is basically our main form of travel, and you can use it to travel to any place that also has a fireplace. That name, however, refers to this building as well,” she poised her hand prettily in reference to the building beside them. “This is where you’ll get meals each day – but we’ll check that out when we get back, because I’ll definitely want lunch by then. This,” she moved her hand back towards the stadium theater now behind her, “is the Assembly Hall, where we gather for emergencies or any time we all need to be filled in on things. And now,” she began walking forward, pausing as she passed him, “we’ll walk and talk for the rest. Any questions so far?” She raised her brows and offered a curious smile as she waited for him to start walking with her.[ 565; 1,159 total ] Kyjoto This got a lil' long, whoops~

Elias rubbed the back of his neck, his face growing red. Lust was one of those words he knew, but wasn't sure he had truly experience. He made a note to look up the definition if there was a library here.
"Well, maybe you can just show me the interesting things?" He watched her facial expressions change, knowing all to well that he was coming on too strong. Sometimes his mouth was just ahead of him, racing, while his mind was wandering. Especially when women or strangers were involved. It was the least favorite part of his job as a Sous Chef, having to go out and talk to patrons, Elias was a behind-the-scenes man.
He nodded, and turned to follow her gaze. "Hearth, travel." Elias repeated and then turned to look at the dining facilities. He noted the assembly hall, but couldn't bring himself to say emergencies. Honestly, he didn't want to know to just yet. Ignorance is bliss.
"None that I can think of." Stepping in line to match her pace, he grinned, a question forming in his mind. "You seem, rather comfortable with being here. May I ask how long you've been here?"

She shrugged at his suggestion. “The problem is, being new to a campus of Gods and their Chosen, everything is interesting. But I’ll take you on a general walk and point out buildings – we just won’t explore them.” She smiled and tilted her head in a not-quite-regretful way. He would have time to explore more on his own, and at least an official tour would walk him through most things. Besides, she was planning on a walk anyway, and it wasn’t terribly long to do a general circle over the grounds.
Sylvia nodded at his repetition. He was quite a bit taller than she, but she was glad he wasn’t taking the lengthy steps that would probably be more comfortable for him. He seemed just fine to stay at her pace. She was about to move on when he said he had no questions – then chuckled when he came up with a question.
“Aah—” She had to stop herself and actually think about it. Trying to remember that evening seemed to make her feel old somehow. It was simultaneously just the other day and so long ago. “Gosh, I’ve been here a few months now.” That didn’t seem possible. She shook her head, “Five? Six? Mm, time feels weird when I think about it.” And so, she decided not to. She sighed, “Long enough to seem comfortable, apparently.” She looked up at him with a smile. It was sort of a nice realization. She had felt so entirely out of place when she’d first arrived, thrown entirely off her game in just about every way imaginable. It was nice to think that she was looking and feeling somewhat at home.
Having gone a bit past her initial goal, Sylvia turned slightly and pointed back, “That’s Athena’s Dorm, by the way. And this,” she gestured ahead of them again, “is the Laboratory building. Can’t say I’ve spent much time in there, but I hear good things.” She winked, slowing as they got closer and gesturing beyond, “Behind that is Apollo’s dorm, though you can’t really see it right now, and all the way out there is Artemis’s dorm.” Dorms, at least, hadn’t been included in her initial tour. She’d taken time to wander and figure out where they all were herself. She shifted their trajectory slightly and started them around the side of campus that skirted the forest. She nodded ahead at the next building, “That’s Dionysus’s dorm.”
She could have explained further, as she had with Artemis’s dorm, but it made no sense since they would be continuing on. Instead, she looked up at Elias. “So, where are you from?” It seemed like an easy enough question, since they had the time to chat a bit. She did, however, remember how stingy she had been with personal information when she had first come to the Prytaneum – something about meeting a bunch of new people all at once made her uncomfortable with telling her life story. She wouldn’t blame Elias if he wasn’t up for saying much.[ 507; 1,666 total ]
