The Eight Gates
The Eight Inner Gates (八門) are eight specific tenketsu on a person's chakra pathway system, limiting the flow of chakra to those areas to preserve the body for as long as possible. By opening these gates, the body is able to exceed it's limits at the cost of of your health and well being. Each gate allows access to more and more of your body's maximum potential, until you reach the Eighth Gate of Death (死門, Shimon), where your body finally reaches it's maximum potential, only to wither into ashes upon closing the gate. Each gate comes with it's own benefits, and ever increasing drawbacks.
[Note: Each Gate must be opened in order on first use. In other words, you cannot open the Fourth Gate, without opening the previous gates at least once. Opening a later gate also opens all the previous gates, along with their benefits and drawbacks. (SP drain and stat decreases from drawbacks do not stack.) Also, dojutsu cannot be active while the gates are active]

The Gate of Death
xxxThe Eighth Gate of Death (死門, Shimon), located at the heart, requires the user to stab their chest with their thumb to direct the chakra to the tenketsu. Once opened, the user will enter what's known as the Eight Gates Released Formation. Opening this gate will cause the user's blood to emanate a flaming aura of red steam, the so-called Steam of Blood (血の蒸気, Chi no Jōki) from all pores of their body, hair, and eyebrows. Releasing this gate uses up all of the body's energy while making the heart pump at maximum power. Exceeding the power of every other gate, the user is temporarily granted approximately a hundred times their normal power, far beyond that of the five Kage. Once activated, those who are capable can perform the Evening Elephant and the Night Guy. The side effect of opening this gate is that it comes at the expense of the user's life, causing the user to crumble to ash after their chakra runs out, having virtually cooked themselves from the inside-out. This is unlike opening the other gates, which simply injure or damage the body.
-Benefits-
1. Your opponent dies
2. You're the Greatest Of All Time for 1 post
3. Evening Elephant and Night Guy can be used
-Drawbacks-
1. You die
2. Can only be used in Death Matches
