The city streets were as busy as ever as Rebecca made her way down the sidewalk, eyes flickering between her cell phone and her surroundings. The walk to her apartment wasn't a bad one, of course, and it never took long if she needed to get there in a hurry. It was just always a bit hard to want to get there when she knew it would be empty and now that her mother's brief holiday visit was done, it definitely would be. It always seemed better to take her time, whether that meant people watching or beating the highest level of this riddle game she'd downloaded a few nights ago or even a bit of both.

Coming to a stop as the sidewalk gave way to another street, she paused the game to watch for the crossing light and realized she was nearly to her building now. Probably better to go ahead and start planning what all she would need to get done when she was in. Mentally weighing how up for cleaning she felt today, she waited.

"Rebecca!" Chrysocolla called out, an oversized sweater draped over her form to hide her fuku, legwarmers over her boots, her hair pulled back into a messy bun hidden atop her head by a pom-pom-topped hat, "Rebecca, wait up -- oh my gosh, I am so sorry - " her nose was trickling blood slightly, as it always was, and she sniffled and sighed, catching her breath, hands on her knees from running to catch up - "I know you don't really know me, sorry, but I go to Romano's too, and, um." She blushed, acutely aware of the sort of scene this probably looked like to the other girl -- this was Chrysocolla's first recruitment proper, after all, and she really had no precedent to work from.

Her own didn't count. She didn't remember it, after all; all she remembered was pain and Laurelite's hand in her chest, so deceptively gentle.

"I meant to talk to you at school, but I haven't had any chances for it, um...but I'm a junior member of this kind of secret club, if that makes sense?" This was the lynchpin -- if she disagreed, well, all she'd seen was Chrysocolla, whose features couldn't be mapped to Poppy without explicit confirmation. "We only really pick from people who are doing really well, and you've been selected...I've watched you swim. You're really talented." Her smile was flinty, unsure at the edges, but trying all the same. "I can't tell you the proper name of it unless you want to join, though, but -- we're kind of like ROTC, sort of? We work on a lot of public projects against the activist and terrorist threat in Destiny City. But, you know, more secret than ROTC. But does it sound like something you'd want to join? I'm really sorry I couldn't catch you at a better time."

The sound of her name startled Rebecca out of her thoughts. Slipping her phone into her pocket, she turned to see who had called, half expecting to find that there was some mistake, another Rebecca nearby, perhaps. But no, the girl was definitely talking to her, the fact that she'd come to a stop just by her was proof enough of that. The problem, of course, was that Becca didn't recognize her at all. She pulled on a polite smile anyway as she awkwardly searched her memory, and then relaxed slightly as the girl admitted they didn't really know each other.

"A secret club?" She couldn't keep the flicker of doubt out of her voice. Romano's didn't really strike her as the type of school to hide its opportunities from its students, but- The thought stopped dead as Chrysocolla kept talking, and her pride curled up to take over the process. A group for students who were doing very well, and they thought she was talented enough to join them. They wanted her to help with the public projects, the threats against the city that she'd been thinking so much about.

"Thank you," she said finally, smile warming into something entirely genuine. "I'm definitely interested in hearing more." She paused a second, deciding whether to say what she wanted to say next, and then let out a giddy little laugh. "Honestly, I've been hoping they might notice how hard I've been working. It's nice to know someone has." She shook her head then, still smiling. "And don't worry, it's not a bad time or anything!"

Belatedly, she noticed something else about her classmate. "Ah, I think your nose is bleeding a bit. Do you need some tissue or anything?" A quick glance back at the intersection, to see if it was safe to cross yet. "My apartment's really close to here."

"No, no, it just -- it just happens," Chrysocolla sputtered, caught offguard by Rebecca's offer of tissues. "Don't worry about me, okay? A-anyways --" she shook her head and wiped her nose again, puffing out her cheeks in seriousness -- "if it helps, you can call me Chrys, everyone does." It sounded exactly like Chris, or Kris, and it wasn't like Rebecca could hear spelling. "Some of the stuff we do is better discussed in private, anyways...it's not illegal or anything, but." She averted her eyes. "You know."
