Anatolio headed to the palace watering hole after his shift ended. Normally he just went home to his quarters close by, since he was always exhausted after work, but lately the routine had been getting under his scales like a grain of sand he couldn't get rid of. He enjoyed his work as a member of the Queen's guard, and the elevated status it brought, but it made him so serious. What had happened to the carefree, fun-loving fish he'd been in his youth? It seemed like he was turning more and more into his father.
Now he really needed a drink.
He needed to socialize. He'd been out for drinks once or twice with the other guys in his squadron, but all they talked about was work. And most of them had families to go home to, so it was one quick drink and then they'd cleared out, leaving Toli sitting alone at the bar, thinking about how long it had been since he'd enjoyed a woman's company.
He thought about Trager fairly often, when he wasn't at work. If she'd only been a Naiad...or even a Faun. They could've made it work. Well, then there was the bit about her not wanting to come near the water... Toli sighed as he sank into a seat at the bar and ordered his usual. He didn't miss her so much as he missed the idea of her. He wanted a companion. Even his sons had someone to go home to. Anxo and his beautiful family came around to visit fairly often, and Dysmas sent word often enough that he knew he was courting a Faun filly.
A companion. Didn't even have to be a romantic companion, just a friend to spend time with and have a little fun. A curvy, sexy femme fish with wavy hair and fins just so, though....that wouldn't go unappreciated either.

It was as if the guardians had listened to Anatolio's heart and granted his wish. Only, they didn't, because they didn't exist. There, sitting at the counter of the watering hole was a curvy female, with a rainbow wave of hair floating in almost still water. "Make me something pretty," Cerelia requested from the bartender. That's what it was all about for her, the frills and fun. She thought back to the cruise she had been on a while ago as she waited for her drink to be made. It was so hard to return to the normal life after getting to attend such a lively event like that. It had been the most fun of anything she had ever done. The naiad wished that there were more events like that and wondered if the palace ever did anything like that. They certainly needed to. Cerelia glanced around the bar, taking note of the tired naiad hanging around. It was so lonely and boring. This was the time where they should be alive! They were free from their responsibilities!

Toli heard the words drift across the bar, "Make me something pretty." They fell on his earfins like an alarm, a wake-up call. He searched out the source of them. Wow. A pale beauty, with colorful, curly hair (he always did have a thing for curly hair) and spots on her tail like sea glass. With wide, round hips and a sassy smile on her face...this was someone Toli wanted to get to know.
He smiled and straightened in his seat. Something was awakening in him that he'd almost forgotten how to do. He was going to flirt. He slipped out of his seat and swished over to her and leaned on the bar. "Put it on my bill," he said to the bartender. Then, to the mystery woman, "I hope you don't mind. But a pretty lady like yourself shouldn't need to pay for her own pretty drink." His eyes sparkled and he felt his heart begin to race. It had been forever since he'd done anything like this. Even if she blew him off, he'd go home happy just having done something different.
"I'm Toli," he said with a warm smile.

Cerelia's head turned quickly when the water's movement suggested that someone had just moved to sit next to her. She couldn't help but give a sweet smile and giggle when he offered to pay for her drink. He was trying, she could tell, but it was kind of cute how direct he was, and it was always sweet to not have to pay for something. It wasn't the worst pickup line ever either. "That's very kind of you... Toli." Cerelia responded. "Cerelia," she introduced herself, flashing the brightly colored naiad a wide smile. This was probably just the right thing to liven up this night. "What are you having?" She asked Toli as her sparkly beverage was brought out. She had no idea what was in her drink, but it was pretty, as requested. She swirled the drink around a bit before taking a sip.

Her name was as beautiful as she was, and the sound of her voice made his heart flutter a little. "I was just finishing a distilled seaweed brew." He slid into the chair next to hers and leaned a little closer. "But I'd rather have what you're having." Toli ordered another one of...whatever the sparkly drink was. Distilled seaweed wasn't his favorite, but it was cheap and easy to buy a round of for the guys. He'd become accustomed to the bitter flavor, but Cerelia's drink looked so much more exciting.
"How come I haven't seen you around here before?" Toli asked. Truly, she was a rush of fresh water in this otherwise brackish place. This wasn't a place people came to relax and unwind...he looked around at the tired patrons. This was a place Naiad came to drown their sorrows. And drowning one's sorrows was quite a feat when you were already underwater. He wondered if, after they finished their drinks, Cerelia would be amenable to leaving this dismal locale for somewhere more lively. Like his quarters.
Toli quickly banished the thought, though the idea did make him smile. He certainly wouldn't mind that--he'd bet Cerelia was as lovely to touch as she was to look at and to talk to.

A distilled seaweed brew sounded fancy, but it certainly didn't look so appealing. "Oh, I think you will love it!" Cerelia agreed, when he decided to order what she had. The pretty drinks always tasted as good as they looked. With a slow shrug of her shoulders, Cerelia responded, "I'm not sure, do you come here often?" Cerelia was far from a frequent visitor, but it was an occasional activity that provided her with a mild form of entertainment. She tried to mix things up often. Cerelia leaned on the counter, looking at Toli, he didn't seem very familiar to her. There was a certain boyish charm to his appearance that was very appealing though.

Did he come here often? Well, not really, but he might start if she were the kind of Naiad who frequented. "Occasionally," he said casually, leaning back in his seat. His sparkly drink arrived and he took a sip. It was incredibly sweet, and the sheer difference in taste from the bitter brew he'd been drinking gave him a start. "Much more exciting than the seaweed brew," he croaked, somewhere between coughing and laughing. He made a toasting motion and took another sip. Once you were prepared for it, it was actually quite good. Though he somewhat hesitated to think what might be in it to make it sparkle, he was enjoying sharing this with Cerelia.
"So what's your story?" he inquired, leaning one elbow on the counter and swirling the drink in his other hand. She seemed so fun and interesting! At least moreso than anything in his life at the moment...

"I suppose we have just missed each other," Cerelia responded. She could hardly believe she was flirting back, horribly at that, but it was kind of fun talking like this to a complete stranger. Exciting. Though, he probably wouldn't be a stranger for long. "Cheers!" She exclaimed with a forward tip of her glass, taking another sip for herself. Cerelia was glad that he had also found her pretty drink pleasurable. "My story?" Cerelia asked with raised eyes. It was an awfully broad question, and it could be awfully difficult to talk about one's self sometimes. She teased a smile in the corner of her mouth, "What would you like to know?" Cerelia couldn't help but be curious about the male sitting beside her too. Would getting to know each other take away some of the mystery and excitement of this encounter? She wasn't sure.

Toli wanted to know absolutely everything about his new companion, but didn't want to come off as too forward. "Mm, let's see," he said slowly, swirling the drink around in his hand and putting on an air of thoughtfulness and regarding her closely. "Whaaat could I ask of you? I could ask....where you came from....or what you like to do....what your family is like....or maybe...." He smiled and leaned forward. His tone changed to something conspiratorial. "Maybe I could ask for a secret. Something you've never told anyone before." His eyes twinkled. "I'll tell you one if you tell me one."

"Ooo! A secret!" She said with much excitement. Cerelia was dying to know what his secret was, how intriguing. First, she needed to think of her own secret though. Something she had never told anyone... "Hmm..." She hummed thoughtfully as she flicked the end of her tail. Oh, she had thought of something good, but it was so embarassing. It was something no one knew though, and it might be surprising. Cerelia lowered her eyes to the table and took a quick sip of her drink. "I've never been with anyone before." She said it so quickly, he might have missed it, and she quickly rushed in with the answers to his other proposed questions. "I've lived in the lake all my life, and I don't have anyone I call family, and I love to do anything exciting and have fun and dance. What's your secret?" And breath.

Toli couldn't help but be momentarily entranced by the swish of her tail. Her iridescent scales shone even in the dimness of the bar, and the colorful spots on her tail were like delicate bits of glass, slightly translucent, slightly opaque. The movement captivated him while she thought, until she spoke again, when he let his eyes travel the delicious distance back up to her face.
Oh, but she had lost that spunky smile! Was she ashamed that she hadn't been with anyone before? To be fair, it was a bit of an anomaly, but many femmes hadn't been with anyone before. But before he could contemplate it for too long, the rest of his questions came tumbling out of her mouth. Toli couldn't help but smile at her eagerness.
"My secret? My secret is tha--"
Just then a blast of music filled the space and he could barely hear himself speak. Toli grimaced. The Indi-Gos had taken the stage, and their main purpose seemed to be to brag about themselves and make an ungodly amount of noise. Gods and little fishes, why did they have to be "performing" tonight?!
"C'mon!" he yelled over the sound. He threw some shells on the bar to pay for their drinks, took Cerelia by the hand, and darted outside with her. The sound was still loud, but not as deafening as it had been inside. He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair. "Sorry about that," he said with a shrug. "D'you want to go for a swim? I'm sure we can find somewhere quiet to...continue our conversation." His smile changed from boyish laughter to something a little more...roguish.Wolfs Heart Got a pinklink on this page! XD

Cerelia perked up as soon as Toli started to reveal his secret, and her previous embarrassment was forgotten with the excitement of knowing his secret. The female leaned in close, literally at the edge of her seat. And then... Music. She was admittedly frustrated that it started just as he was about to tell her the secret, but she enjoyed music and assumed they would continue their conversation. Cerelia's eyes grew wide as Toli was ready to dart off. But, but his secret! She obliged when he tugged on her hand because she still needed to know what it was. Cerelia was pretty surprised with the male's response to the music, but it was pretty thrilling swimming out of the bar the way that they had. "Sure!" Cerelia said in a chipper response, agreeing to the swim. Realization dawned that he didn't think they could continue their conversation with the music going, but they could have danced. Oh well. "Hey! Don't think you'll get out of your secret that easily." She said looking at him with raised eyes and a mischievous grin.

"Of course not," replied Toli smoothly, tucking her arm into his as he led her away from the bar. "I simply didn't want to have to shout over the music. It wouldn't be much of a secret then, would it?" He winked conspiratorially at her.
"The truth is," he continued, "I'm not sure I'm interesting enough to have secrets. I'm a member of the Queen's guard, but that's hardly a secret, is it? I have two sons, of whom I'm very proud. One lives here with his mate, the other above with his. I'm not sure how he does it without completely drying out, but I suppose one makes sacrifices for love." The words hit him as he was speaking them. No wonder it hadn't worked between him and Trager.
"Then I suppose the closest thing I have to a secret is my completely useless power." He left it there. He knew it would catch her attention--and her curiosity.

"Oooooo" Cerelia responded, "You have a point there." The naiad looked over her shoulder at the shrinking bar with the loud, muffled sounds escaping it. She had almost forgotten that they weren't completely alone in there, and anyone could have heard her admit her secret. Cerelia looked to the naiad who was escorting her, with the wink in his eye and the bright colors catching her eyes. She could hardly believe that he wasn't interesting enough to have secrets. She raised her eyebrows as he admitted that he had two sons, maybe it wasn't a secret to the rest of the world, but it was certainly something that she hadn't known. That wasn't saying much though, since she had hardly gotten to know the male quite yet. Cerelia was surprised he had kids, but then she wasn't, he was attractive after all. She didn't say anything about it, and she knew little of the sacrifices of love. "Useless power?" She asked Toli with increased interest. "Surely the seas wouldn't grant you something useless, would they?"

"Of course that wasn't their intention," amended Toli hastily. One never knew when the Seas were listening. Or one did, because it was always. "And it may have been useful in....in another lifetime, but not here and now." A twinge of sadness hinged in his voice for just a moment, but then he was all bright smiles again.
"I'll show you, if you'll permit me." One eyebrow was cocked upward, giving him a mischievous look about him. He'd never have guessed that he might get to use his "power" for this kind of purpose! Not at the bottom of the Lake...
Maybe the Seas did grant him a useful power, after all.Wolfs Heart Sorry for the short post! XP
