Name: Haira ( hi r ah )
Age: 31
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual with Asexual tendencies
Craft: Harper Craft - Archivist
Rank: Journeyman
Physical Description:
A stout woman with bronze hair that tends to frizz around her face in a halo and caramel colored eyes. Her skin is a dark tan that deepens or lightens slightly depending on how much time she spends cooped up inside working on records versus outside.
Her body is bottom heavy, with wide hips leading into a rather flat chest. She’s got a stocky and short physique, not willow thin but not necessarily sliding to fat. In fact her weight like her skin tone tends to fluctuate with her workload.
She is nearsighted and wears wire-rimmed glasses to help her see.
Personality:
Haira is a bundle of contradictions. At her core she’s a rather tightly wound individual who given time tends to over analyze and is prone to predicting all kinds of doom and calamity upon the world. The slightest deviation from her established routine can send her into a panic if given time to dwell. Thankfully her Master was smart enough to teach her to always keep herself busy. Given a task to perform all Haira’s insecurities seem to fade away as she laser focuses on completing her goal to the best of her abilities. She has always had a love and gift for fine details in writing and genuinely enjoys being thrown into a chaos of water stained or mildewing old papers and turning them into efficient and well organized records.
When it comes to people Haira is again a bundle of nerves and contradictions. Given a clear set of etiquette to follow she does well enough, if a little wooden at times. Asked to do anything spontaneous, or vaguely risk taking, and once again you’ll see her fall into panic.
History:
Haira is the second eldest in a family of five girls all raised by a single free-spirited mother. Haira’s family made a living through firelizard breeding after her mother fell into the occupation in a desperate attempt to feed her growing family.
Growing up money was always tight and so when her uncle Aro offered to train her in a Craft Haira’s mother was thrilled. She was even more thrilled when it turned out her second eldest had a real talent for the Harper Craft.
Or at least she turned out to be a gifted Archivist like her uncle, she never quite managed to get anything other than basic proficiency in the more traditional Harper talents.
Still her thirst for knowledge and willingness to work hard led her family to band together to send her all the way to Harper Hall. While there she showed a real knack for careful calligraphy and organization skills, and if not outright talent in the other Harper Arts at least a willingness to learn and try. She was gifted her Journeymen status a little late in age and even her kindest Masters warned her that her prospects might not be quite as good as her more musical gifted contemporaries.
But she was thrilled with her chosen occupation and eager to take whatever job came her way, all handled with a enthusiastic kind of competency.
When Thread hit like most of Pern she was horrified and frightened. Like most of the populace she had grown up with only stories of the terrifying phenomena and had no real defense. Especially as someone who traveled between assignments the terrifying death falling from the skies was enough to send her into a panic - or at least rushing back to the archives to do her best to organize and figure out a way to keep them safe.
It was the archives and her own Harper Craft that oddly benefited the most - after of course the High Reaches Weyr with the resurgence of an old danger.
The Harpers being the keepers of history through song and Archives found themselves in even higher demand than usual. And for a change the oft scoffed at Archivists themselves were finding themselves nearly as sought after than their more musical contemporaries. As they were needed to find, organize, and in some cases replace entire sections of record after things were destroyed.
At present Haira is on her way back to the next assignment finding herself in unexpected demand as the cry for well-trained archivists has increased exponentially.
Other:
She has a life long somewhat embarrassing fear of dragons. She doesn’t like to mention it as it makes her come off as a little odd or silly.
She has a strained relationship with most of her siblings and especially with her cousins. Most of them seeing the family throwing so much time and money into getting her to the Harper Hall and trained properly as an Archivist a waste of time.
